[JFFMedia] Shining Tears X Wind Episode 1 -
01-05-2009, 07:37 PM
Mysterious disappearances are occurring one after the other in Tatsumi Town. Kiriya has a vision from a mysterious beautiful girl with pointy ears. A book talking for an alternative world is found. And Mao searching for her long lost friend, Zero, comes to our world. But what she didn’t expect is to find Souma and Kureha, and even less, to accidentally take them to her world. Now, Souma and Kureha have to find a way to come back. But other forces are playing their part in the darkness and Souma with Kureha will find that going back is harder than they first anticipated.
My first complete anime episode fandub project, I can't thank my cast enough for their lines and support. This took a lot longer than I planned and there were many complications, but I finally finished it. Enjoy!

Ditto, I'll critique as soon as I get a chance. X33 <3
Edit [for critique]: Okay! First of all, I completely ADORED the opening and ending songs in english. Erica and Kyle have such gorgeous voices and performed the songs beautifully. I also really enjoyed the mixing, I didn't really notice anything majorly off, or anything that seemed odd or 'stand out'-ish. The only thing concerning mixing was that the audio was kind of quiet? Maybe? I can't tell exactly on this PC, but I had to turn my volume both on youtube and on my PC up, [normally which sounds booming if it's anything above 50] But it may just be me going deaf. LOL. It wasn't bad thing or anything, I just thought I'd point that out. XD
Also, there seemed to be a lot of like, 'silence' in the background for parts. I can't remember if it was this way in the original, which it probably was, but I just happen to be a big fan of having some sort of 'air' or room tones instead of normal silence. Nothing major, just thought I'd throw that out there in case you wanted to play around in future dubs. XD
Mooving on~ Cast wise everyone sounded good! Since there's so many characters I don't have time to like, really go into uber details so I'll just note some tidbits. I was especially fond of Skylar's [first time hearing you! so that was exciting, ahah], and Crystal's performance, though I did like everyone. Concerning the um, cherry blossom tree conversation type thing that Kiriya and Seena had, I felt that the emotion was a little lacking, for both characters. [only sometimes though] Seena sounded a little too monotone-ish to me at certain parts, too.
It was a very fitting voice for her though, I really liked it. I will say, my major gripe is actually with my own performance. I feel like I could've done a lot better and that I was really lacking here. I'm beating myself up about it, I feel like I didn't give enough emotion to Kureha. I hope it wasn't too terrible. >< That's pretty much all I have to point out/nit pick. @.@
Major props to 'teh monsters though, [Hatomi, Poke & Vincent]. I was really impressed with you guys! X3 Great job! I wish I could do those kind of voices. AHAHA. Oh! And I loved Mao's attacking noises, Mippa. And Vincent, the chokey-noises were great too. XD [random, I know, but I really liked those. LOL.]
Uaahh, overall it was really entertaining and it turned out really good! Especially for your first anime dub. X3 Thanks for allowing me to be apart of it! ^o^ Sorry I couldn't go into more detail. >< Stupid School. Stupid finals!! Rawr...
EditEdit: OOo I just noticed when I rewatched a part. Concerning like, scripting. Some lines sounded a little unnatural or too formal, if that makes sense. Like the "What is happening now?" it doesn't look wrong, but when spoken it sounded a little awkward compared to like, "What's happening now?" Lip flaps are a pain when scripting, but just be careful of 'too proper' lines. It can make things seem a little weird, I don't think it happened a lot in here, but that line stuck out to me. Just thought I'd point it out. X33

Now that I've watched the whole thing..x3 Great job everyone! I never really do have the time to comment on everyone's performences for full episodes so I'll just say everyone did great! A few slurring making it difficult to understand at times, but otherwise it was fantastic~! For mixing a few lip flaps were off and sfx were missing at times, but it was great for your first full ep fandub.=D Coolio job everyone!>D

Cast:
Souma Akizuki: Vincent J. Shermon AKA "Vincent the Paladin": I really liked this...This only thing that bothered me a bit was that your delivery tended to be more mature than I had initially thought the character would have. I think you could've sounded more playful at times. The serious lines were delivered very well though. There were overall a few times at the beginning on the "playful" lines where your delivery was kind of flat; but overall excellent job.
Kureha Touka: Amber Lee Connors: One of my favorite performances, your voice fit her really well. I don't know what else to say...Really nice work!
Seena Kanon: Brooke Lynn: You did a nice job, but I couldn't help but feel your delivery sometimes got that natural childish sound into it sometimes. I liked this more mature voice from you, just make sure the younger one doesn't sneak in too often. Again, I had a few issues with slightly flat delivery here, but nothing too major. Nice job.
Kiriya Kaitou: Kane "Jefferz" West: Very nice job. One of my favorite performances in the cast, actually. You made a good choice to self-cast here. =3 You made him sound very cute, and shy; but still natural and believably so. Nice work!
Saionji Haruto: Luise Ernesto Rojas Gonzales AKA "LG65": There were a few issues with slurred words; and your delivery was sometimes a little flat, but you fit the character very well. Nice job.
Hiruda Reia: Crystal Miller: I really like your cuter voices~ Very nice job. I liked it a lot! =3
Mao: Melissa D. Johnson AKA "Mippa": I loved the kitty-like sound you gave to her voice. It surprised me, and was a really cool touch. =3 Great job!
Zero: Skylar Silverlake: Really cool voice...<3 I loved this, you gave him a nice youthful, and mysterious sound. Excellent job.
Mysterious Woman/Narrator: Crystal Miller: Not much to say here either...You sounded really nice. (I feel like I've said that a lot...*shot*)
Beastman: Jonathan Edward "Pokejedservo" Dolnier: Nice snarls~ =D Coolio, I liked it!
Goblin & Various Monsters: Hatomi Kazuki: *snarl* =D
Giant: Vincent J. Shermon AKA "Vincent the Paladin": Nice snarling! =D Monsters...UNITE! =D
Opening Theme: Shining Tears: Nice job. There were a few points when your voice did get a touch nasally; but very nice job overall. I really like this...<3
Performed by Erica
Lyrics by Erica and Mongtsatsa
Ending Theme: Light In My Heart (Hikari no SILHOUETTE): You have a really nice voice. Excellent job...x__X'' (<-- Doesn't have anything else to say) Great job.
Performed by Kyle Loucks
Lyrics by Lilmenchi
Mixing: The mixing seemed good to me! Nice job here! =3
Overall: Nice job everyone! I really liked this~ >3 Oh, are the opening and endings available for download by any chance...? xD
Great job everyone! Wheee! *wack'd*

Thanks for the comments so far!
-Shudo: I'll be more careful, maybe compare the audio to other videos before finalizing everything. Oh and next time I'll figure out what to add in the silent parts. But I think you did a great job on your character, don't be too hard on yourself!
-Hatomi: I was actually pretty nervous about my own role, but I'm glad it wasn't completely terrible. As for the songs, Erica has hers on soundclick already. I'll probably post them up soon if it's alright with them.

Not bad, not bad at all, the cast was pretty stellar all around. Though I especially liked the opening and ending theme's English versions. Overall this was just simply a pretty darn good fandub. However I have a question to ask...
Maybe its just me but is the voicework on the Beast Man seemingly half my handiwork and half the Japanese original or something? Some of the Beastman's growls didn't quite sound like mine. I am not really angry or anything like that but I was a bit surprised and curious about that...
But still while I did feel like asking that question I still did enjoy this fandub nevertheless...
