Episode 1:
The Initiation, Part I

Story:
When a mysterious second moon appears in the sky, everything in the city of Kokura, Japan begins to change. The Astronomical Agency observed this new moon and concluded that it simply doesn't exist; we see it, yet it isn't there. What can it be? Following the appearance of this new moon are dangerous monsters that began to appear and affect the city as a whole. The monsters are referred to as "Kasha" by those that know about them, after the demonic forms that they take on.

However, a group of teenagers with special abilites in Kokura High, known as the Astronomy Club, have begun their own search to discover the purpose of this new moon. The Astonomy Club is simply a front for these students, who are both fighting the monsters that are attacking the city as well as scouting the city for people with abilities just like theirs. Their newest target is unsuspecting Ryou Hamura, a third year student whose only obstacle standing between he and graduation is Physics class. But as it turns out, the boy who's failing Physics and cares only about playing baseball in the States may be Kokura City's last hope...

Producer's Notes:
Whew! It's finally done! After almost a year of casting, recasting, hiatuses (is that a word? Hiatuses? Hiatusii? Hm.), a planned and failed trailer, and a move across the country, the first episode of ANC is finally completed! First of all, I want to thank the cast for sticking it out with me for this long. I know that it must've been a little frustrating with my random absences and not knowing what was going on with the radioplay, but you all held out for me, and I appreciate it more than anything. You guys are all great, and I hope that I've been able to do your amazing voice work justice with this first episode. Now that I'm home and all settled in, these episodes will start coming more frequently!

Secondly, I probably should mention that this is my very first full production, meaning that I'm pretty much a first-time mixer. So please, please, to both the listeners and the cast, if you hear anything wrong, I encourage you to throw critiques at me, however mean and bluntly honest they may sound, because I feel that I'll only get better with criticism.

Messages to the Cast:
Ryou, played by BloodyHowling
When I originally went to cast Ryou, I had a hard time finding a voice that fit him, despite the crazy amount of talented AVAs that auditioned for him. I ended up casting myself in the role, and after long deliberation, I felt I needed to hold auditions once more. Nitque was actually the one that recommended you to me, and wow, I'm seriously glad that she did. You completely blew me away with how spot on your delivery was with the character. This first episode you were required to do a little bit of monolouging, and you made it sound completely non-cheesy and totally believable, and your emotion, when it was needed, is seriously top notch.

Tsubasa, played by Sukisho
With the rest of the cast, it was mostly tough deliberation and deciding between a lot of AVAs. With you, I instantly knew that you were the perfect Tsubasa. This story and I have more or less been involved for the better part of six years, and your voice is exactly the voice I had in my head for him. You make being the most popular and swooned over boy in the school sound like a piece of cake! You have a definite charm to your voice that brings the character to life, and I'm very glad you auditioned and decided to stay on with me!

Kyoka, played by Scarlotte
Originally, I didn't know what I wanted Kyoka to sound like. Out of all of the characters, hers had the least distinctive voice in my head, which is why I'm glad that you auditioned! You brought in a voice that sounds exactly the way she would sound, and the snarkiness and adorability that you bring to her really shines through! "Why'd you have to slam my hand down so hard, you big ox?!" is definitely one of my favorite lines of this episode, and the way you delivered it, as well as the rest of your lines, are totally fitting of the character!

Shinkai, played by R. Douglas Barbieri
Hey, we did it! After all of our crazy e-mail tagging and hectic schedules, it's finally done! I have to admit that I have listened to other productions that you've been in, and I was really hoping that you would audition for Shinkai, because you bring that deep, "man amongst men" quality that I was looking for! I was worried about how I wrote his lines because I was afraid that I made him sound way too two-dimensional, but you definitely brought him alive with your mannerisms and talent! Here's to more episodes and less random disappearances and power outages!

Izumi, played by Cerise Panda
Izumi is the character that pretty much brings everything together, and while all of the other characters are very important, she's the main driving force of the radioplay. I was devastated when my first Izumi bailed out on me, but now, I'm glad she did. There really isn't any way I can put into words how much you fit the role, and how well you do. From her commanding tone to her mild irritation, you deliver every line completely spot on. You're definitely a great AVA, and I look forward to hearing more of your Izumi, as well as your other roles!

Manami, played by Amree Takahara
Penelope! Ahaha, we need to talk more like we used to! I have to say that you make the perfect Manami with your cuteness and how it just comes naturally to you, but it's a shame that we didn't really get to see much of it in play this first episode, and won't really until this first arc is cleared. The lines that you did have in this episode were great though, even if there were only two of them. I promise, promise, PROMISE that by episode five, you will have lines aplenty!

Makoto, played by River Angel Odin
Like Amree, you didn't really have very many lines in this episode either because your character wasn't introduced, but you'll have a few more next episode, and then more steadily from then on! I remember not being sure whether I wanted to cast you as Kyoka or Makoto, because you were excellent with both of them, but I ended up going with Makoto because you make a being a kickass twenty-something sound so damn cool! Your lines for this episode were great, and I can't wait to hear more of your Makoto soon!

Is this an actual series? If it is, I have never seen it. XD But it's a nice introduction to the series, I'm very interested in this story now. It's kinda like Sailor Moon...just kidding! XD No no, I seriously am kidding.

I think Bloody Howling could have sounded a bit more 'natural' if that makes sense. I think he did good, but it just sounded awkward at times.

There are a few puffs here and there from various actors (first heard from Cerise, in fact, she puffs a lot). I suck at critiques, but I thought everyone did a great job. Mixing was well done and...will there be more? :3

Sorry I took so long getting you my lines for part 1! However, I think I've more than made up for that since you also now have all my lines for part 2! I was in the "zone" so I just kept going with script 2.

Awesome episode by the way! Tremendously fun and it had me laughing out loud at some of the schticks. I think you have overall great mixing (but for some reason, on my speakers, Shinkai sounds too quiet compared with the other voices--is it just me?) and excellent choices of music. It was so much fun to be a part of!

xD It's actually based on a Japanese game called Yoru ga Kuru! -Square of the Moon- that came out in 2001. I took the base characters and the basic story, and pretty much changed everything around, from plot points to personalities (Izumi was actually a really sweet girl! Shocking, no?).

Thanks for the critique and the praise, and yes, there will most definitely be more coming! =D

xD It's partly my fault too, because it took me forever to actually get the ball rolling with the episode, so no worries! For the mixing, yeah, Shinkai and Tsubasa actually were the quieter lines; I tried raising the volume on those lines in particular, but I must not have raised them loud enough. Something to take into account for the next episode! =D

I liked how this came out, I thought everyone did pretty well but like mochan said there were some puffs here and there and audio levels could use some work. I had really noticed it on mine near the end (could hear them pretty well in the beginning though) and some of Shinkai. Other than that it was pretty good.

The puffs can be solved by getting a pop-filter for your microphone. Here is my setup:

That's true though a lot of people probably don't have a mic like that so I'd think it's hard to use a pop filter on it.

Ahh yay! It's finally done. And thanks Mochan for the critique, I'll work on that whole natural aspect.

Tsubasa: Sukisho
Whatever I see you in you always do a good job, so it's really no surprise that your performance as Tsubasa was good too. It fit the character, like DD said.

Kyoka: Scarlotte
Easily my favorite voice outa the bunch. Scarlotte, you seem to be in a lot of productions with me ... are you stalking me or something?

Shinkai: R. Douglas Barbieri
You did the voice for one of my characters and I was equally impressed now and then. You have a unique voice - and it's a little strange to hear such a deep and powerful voice coming from a high school student, but I think it works, especially with the way Shinkai is.

Izumi: Cerise Panda
Truth be told, Izumi must have been fairly easy to voice. She keeps nearly the same tone throughout the whole thing - but that's not saying anything against you. You kept it real, that's for sure. Good job Cerise!

Manami: Amree Takahara
Amree Amree Amree! I know you only had like -- what two lines? But still, you make it sound so easy. I can't wait to hear more from your character in later episodes.

Makoto: River Angel Odin
RAO, did you even have any lines? O.o I don't recall your voice except from the beginning. Ah well, I'm sure we'll see you soon!

DD - Mixing:
I think you did a good job. Honestly I haven't heard too many radioplays (whether that's my fault or not ... well .... ... ) but from what I have heard, this was put together the best. And good job with communication... At least on my part. You let me know what was happening - Which is good; I hate when producers leave you in the dark and you think that all your work was buried in the dirt with the time you put into it. I'm looking forward to continuing on the project!

I agree with Bloody Howling that the story was told wonderfully--I knew exactly where I was and what was going on at all times. The action carries nicely--and I really like the non-linear opener. A very nice touch--it will be fun to hear the next chapter!

Hey Data, have you thought about turning this into a podcast?
