Hello, all. I've been working on this production for a few months, but I just started casting for VA roles. I'd love to make ToV a fanfilm or a fangame someday -but due to technology constraints on my part, it may just remain a radio play.
ANNOUNCEMENT: The part of Lark has been given to Sheepmage, with nikoshinigami as her understudy. Also, Scarlotte has been cast as Meryl, one of the secondary characters.
I am also setting a deadline for Rythe and Ainon auditions. This will be
Friday, July 20th. (If this is a serious problem for anyone, let me know via PM and I will do my best to accommodate you.)
NOTE: Lines for these characters can now be found further down on this page, in the 7th post.

The world of Dumnoval is under siege. For centuries, it has been under attack by a malevolent force called the
Malaerant, an unnatural fog that destroys to all that comes in contact with it. This menace spread quickly over the world, and has reduced most of Dumnoval to a desolate waste.
Only one last sanctuary from the threat exists: on the continent of Sherfa, five human nations were granted weapons to ward off the impending doom. Each possesses a crystal, given to them by the mysterious God of the Blue Flame. These five gems have the power to keep the
Malaerant at bay, but with one condition—the firstborn of each royal line to possess magic must bond with the Stone. Thus far, the constraint has easily been satisfied, and life on Sherfa has continued to thrive.
Yet, in the country of Belgania, the delicate balance threatens to shatter. The firstborn son of the King was determined to be magic-less and so exiled as a young boy, while his brother was raised to rule. But recently, the true heir discovered his own latent powers and escaped from his prison. With the help of a brave young girl and her companions, the prince must stop his brother’s crowning before it is too late, or else catastrophe will befall their home…
Main Characters
Lark Ridel
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Weapon of Choice: Short sword
Personality: Fiercely independent and free-spirited, Lark has to contend with an overprotective father and a social order which limits her freedom. Though forced to don skirts at home, she much prefers to wear a tunic and pants. She dreams of the world outside Lilivam and takes every opportunity to escape its borders and restrictions. She is also an avid reader and devours books by the dozens—at least, those she can sneak past Norton. Her personal mission is to do something important with her life and be remembered for it—even if her place in Belgania’s caste system makes that an impossibility.
History: Lark is the only daughter of a family of tailors in the village of Lilivam. Her father Norton is extremely traditional, and Lark chafes under his authority; she longs for escape from her oppressive household and freedom to see the world. When a joke unintentionally goes too far and Lark is selected to accompany Keir on his journey to Varalís, she doesn't hesitate to seize the opportunity. Little does she know that this errand is only the first step on an adventure that will take her beyond the boundaries than of her imagination…
Keir Smytheson
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Weapon of Choice: Axe
Personality: Unlike his best friend, Keir is pragmatic and level-headed, the realist influence to balance Lark’s rampant idealism. Furthermore, he takes a rather cynical view of the upper castes and nobility, and he tends to be sarcastic. He would much rather remain in Lilivam his entire life, making a good wage smithing and raising a family, than get mixed up in the affairs of royalty, and spends most of his effort trying to get Lark to feel the same way. When that is shown to be clearly impossible, he accompanies her in order to keep her out of trouble, which he often fails to do. He is disdainful of book-learning (considering it a thing pursued by those who don’t earn an honest living), but his practicality and street-smarts make him appear wise. He knows the countryside around Lilivam better than anyone else in the whole village.
History: Lark's best friend and childhood companion, Keir also lives in Lilivam, and he works for his father in the forge. Mostly he spends his time making nails, shoeing animals, and chopping firewood for the bellows, but he gets paid just like any other apprentice. Lilivam is famous throughout Sherfa for the crafting of weapons, so when a special magical blade is forged as a coronation present for the new King, Keir is a natural choice to deliver it to Varalís.
Rythe Leonhart
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Weapon of Choice: Spell book and Elemental Magic
Personality: As the oldest member of the party, Rythe tends to act as a guardian for the entire group, not just Ainon, whom he views as a sort of younger brother. He’s extremely knowledgeable about a wide variety of subjects—everything from cooking and laundry to powerful battle magic and military strategy. Though sophisticated and a real help in tight situations, Rythe is immediately mistrustful of anyone who gets too friendly and takes quite a while to change his initial impression of someone. He also tends to be a little pessimistic. Underneath this, however, he is a loyal companion and a source of excellent advice.
History: Rythe is the second son of the Leonhart family, a less-prominent noble bloodline who have held the title of baron for some three or four generations. At the tender age of 12, he was already powerful enough to have gained the attention of Belgania’s Elite Mage Knights, who offered him a place in their ranks. He quickly rose through the hierarchy, to the point that his marching orders came directly from King Leron. Then, about ten years ago, the King called him into his presence and gave him a new, top-secret mission. This task was to guard Leron’s eldest son, Ainon: the magic-less prince who had been presumed dead but had, in reality, been sent into exile on the island of Kantris. Rythe received his orders and departed, never returning to the mainland…until now, when our story begins….
Ainon Irucastor Belgania
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Weapon of Choice: Rapier and Elemental Magic
Personality: A nobleman’s son whom Rythe is sworn to protect, Ainon is very polite and chivalrous to a fault. He is, however, rather unassuming and naïve about the ways of the world (though he is very well-read), and this often gets him in difficulties. He views Rythe as family rather than a servant, and he admires Lark, though sometimes he finds her vibrant personality rather overwhelming. It is clear that he’s keeping something a secret, and while he would give anything to disclose it, doing so may very well put his life at risk…
History: The eldest son of King Leron of Belgania, and once the Crown Prince. Upon the discovery of his lack of magical power and the birth of his brother Jenel fifteen years ago, Ainon was exiled from his home in Varalís and confined to Kantris. He grew up completely alone, save for his books and his caretakers. About three months prior to the story, he suddenly discovered an ability to do magic, latent all along but missed until it surfaced. Knowing of the Covenant and fearing for his people's future, Ainon escaped from his island abode to prevent disaster. Yet what seems to him to be simply a misunderstanding may have its roots in something far more sinister…
Lucia Talmeca
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Weapon of Choice: Chakrams
Personality: Lucia is intelligent, pretty, tranquil, and powerful. With a kind word for everyone, imperturbable serenity, and unmatched skill in the healing arts, she gets along with almost everybody. Lark, in particular, is fond of her, and admires Lucia’s contentment with her lot. Yet some, especially Rythe, believe that there may be more to Lucia than at first meets the eye…
Brief History: Lucia was wandering Belgania, preaching the Way of the Flame, when Lark ran into her while searching for herbs in the woods. Since Ainon had fallen mysteriously ill and Lucia was a professional healer, our heroine requested that she help them out. The priestess agreed, and her actions ended up revealing Ainon’s true heritage to Lark and Keir. Since then, Lucia has accompanied them, offering to seek the aid of the Church in Varalís to support Ainon’s bid to the throne.
Aretha Terciquel
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Weapon of Choice: Lance
Personality: Aretha is tough, passionate, and, unfortunately, imperious. Though her zeal is mostly put to constructive use, she has a terrible temper, and it often gets the better of her. She also tends to romanticize life, living it like the heroine in a fairy tale. Her main goal in life is to win the heart of Crown Prince Jenel, marry him, and eventually become Queen. She sees her position as a knight as a means to fulfill her dream, but what she hopes to gain may be more than just her own ‘happily ever after’. Underneath her determinedly-acerbic exterior, there is simply a tired and confused little girl trying to do the right thing.
History: The heir to the duchy of Yvonne, Aretha is one of the few females in the King's Knights. She was sent by Jenel to arrest Rythe and Ainon and prevent them from stopping the coronation. Lark and company turn the tables on her and force her to lead them to the capital city. (She, of course, insists that the only reason she’s helping them is because Varalís is where she was going to take them in the first place). In their company, she gradually becomes convinced that Ainon is not a traitor (though it conflicts with her ultimate plan) and by the end she is helping them of her own free will.
Euphrates ‘Eu’ Rivermark
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Weapon of Choice: Martial Arts (He wears bracers on his wrists)
Personality: Talkative, laid-back, and self-designated Casanova, Euphrates is not as popular with the gentler sex as he would like to believe. He’s been rejected by many a woman, yet somehow he manages to convince himself that the rejection was a fluke, every single time. Despite his obvious pig-headedness about women, Eu is so easygoing that no one really ever knows what’s on his mind. His free soul and appreciation for living life to the fullest entices Lark, who sees in him a kindred spirit. Keir, however, finds him irresponsible and irritating. Like many sailors, Eu is very superstitious, and often prays to Maris, spirit of the sea, for luck.
History: A member of Belgania’s lowest caste, Eu is a ferryman by trade and owns a small skiff, which he has christened the
Lorelei. Other than the clothes on his back and his freedom, the
Lorelei is pretty much his only possession, and he lives hand-to-mouth off his various jobs. He mostly uses her to transport cargo to and from the port cities in various countries—and, as a consequence, has free passage between them. When the party needs a sailor to smuggle them out of the country, Eu is by no means their ideal candidate. But as Claudio points out, he is the only person crazy enough to take them up on their offer, so they has no choice but to hire him.
Rena Sylferion
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Weapon of Choice: Claws
Personality: Bright, bubbly and cheerful, Rena is unfortunately clumsy and a bit of a ditz. Her flashy nature and big mouth tend to get her into trouble, but her optimism is contagious and she brightens the mood of the entire group. Yet, is possible that her extreme happiness is concealing something else? And why does she wear that silly cat hood, anyway?
Na’ina of the Sapphire Scales
Age: Unknown
Weapon of Choice: Dark Magic
Personality: As far as some people are considered, Na’ina has no personality. Cool and rational to the point of seeming inhuman, she has a subtle and biting wit that she rarely displays. In fact, she rarely speaks at all, blending into the background of events around her. However, when she does, she is the most reasonable of the lot, and her silver tongue can negotiate her way out of any situation.

Secondary Characters (in order of appearance)
Professor Aydin Lockleif:
The old schoolmaster of Lilivam, he is sympathetic to Lark and her predicament with her father. In fact, he allows her to sit in on classes during harvest season, when all his students but Keir are usually absent. He also lends her books, and listens to her woes. In some ways, Lockleif is the father Lark should have had, instead of rigid, intolerant Norton.
Norton Ridel:
Lark's father, and a tailor by trade. When his daughter was born, he decided to protect her from harm, no matter the cost. Unfortunately, his solution was to become inflexible and greatly restrict her, trying to keep her from growing up. He hadn't counted on Lark having her own ideas about that...
Angeline Ridel:
Lark's mother. Famed as the town beauty in her day, Angeline Bentiss seemed to diminish a bit after her marriage to Norton. There is also hints of strain in their relationship, though Norton has never publicly abused her in any way. Nevertheless, Angeline is rather subdued in the presence of her husband, and she rarely intervenes in his harsh dealing with their daughter. Lark is rather dismissive of her reserved nature, thinking it weakness and the refusal to stand up for herself. Yet there may be more to Angeline than at first meets the eye..
Liline and Amita Ridel:
Lark's eleven-year-old cousins and Norton's budding apprentices, the twins Liline and Amita are already conniving little terrors. Unfortunately, they can appear to be perfect angels when they want to, and Norton believes everything they say. They love causing trouble for Lark, and are always stirring up some scheme to get Norton angry with her.
Claudio Elpidius Lyrikas:
Sweet of voice and handsome of face, Claudio is a wandering bard. He travels all over Sherfa, singing for his supper and entertaining commoner and noble alike. He is also quite popular with women; often, it is enough to mention his name to make a group of young girls blush and giggle. Claudio runs into the party several times on the course of their adventure, and he often helps them out diffculties, because he's taken a shine to Lark.
Crown Prince Jenel Irucastor Belgania:
Ainon's little brother Jenel, at fifteen, has been raised to be King all his life. Granted, he hadn't really expected to take on the duties so soon, but he feels it's his duty in life and what he deserves. He's not about to have the Shining Throne snatched out from under him by a rival, especially not his failure of a big brother. Still, he's not likely try something quite as extreme as arrest/execution on his own. Nevertheless, he is young, and his afraid, grief-stricken mind is all too susceptible to manipulation...
*More to come*
Guardian (Summon) Spirits
The elemental spirits of Dumnoval, each with an aspect to govern. Magic comes from them. People who possess certain character traits are supposed to be influenced by a particular Guardian, but it possible to have more than one affinity. Each spirit is also paired with an elemental “balancer,” who is a different gender and controls an opposing element. When launched at each other, the two cancel out.
Unlike the traditional Summon Spirits of other games, the Guardians do not require a pact to lend their power to a lesser being, but instead require something of value in exchange—a sort of ‘collateral’ system. This thing of value does not have to be material. More than one person can hold claim on a particular spirit.
An: An is the spirit of the sky and the wind. With his partner and balancer, Cybele, he is also one of the Great Guardians, the source of Dumnoval’s life. Those with an affinity for An tend to attempt anything and everything, and chafe at any limitations they discover. Unlike most of the other Guardian Spirit pairs, An and Cybele were quite close until her disappearance.
Maris: Maris is the spirit of water and the sea. People born under her influence tend to be calm and collected, and value knowledge. She is a popular icon in Laverlos, although sailors all over the world (including Eu) have been known to pray to her. Items dipped in her sacred fountain are supposed to bring luck on sea voyages. Maris is opposed by Raijin, the spirit of lightning.
Agni: Agni is the spirit of fire. People blessed by Agni are passionate, courageous, and often value physical strength. He's also the patron spirit of smiths. He is balanced by Crya, the spirit of ice.
Raijin: The Guardian with the most potential power, Raijin is the spirit of lightning. He is, however, temperamental and one of the most difficult to control. Those with his affinity also tend to be mercurial and may lash out in anger or subside into depression without warning. Raijin’s untamed mood swings are opposed by settled Maris, spirit of water.
Crya: The most remote of the Guardians, Crya is supposedly found far to the north. Those influenced by her ice tend to have lots of endurance and self-control, but they can also be cold and unsympathetic to others. Crya is opposed by Agni, spirit of fire.
Cybele: The Queen of Spirits, Cybele is the spirit of the earth and of life itself. Those with an earth affinity are nurturing and compassionate, but since her sealing, not many touched by Cybele exist today. Legend has it that she was bound in the days before the
Malaerant and her absence is possibly its source. Her whereabouts are currently unknown.
Lucena: Lucena, the spirit of light, is associated with righteous behavior and morality. Those touched by her often join such organizations such as the Church, or Army. Lucena is opposed by Itzal, the spirit of darkness.
Itzal: Itzal is the spirit of darkness and shadow. People with a shadow affinity tend to be close-mouthed and cunning, and often ambiguous. While Itzal is balanced by Lucena, he has a poor reputation compared to his partner; people naturally fear darkness, and dark magic has traditionally been turned to evil purposes. However, this is not a trait of the magic but of the people using it, and any other element could be misused in this way.
