I use a SHUR KSM 32 condenser microphone that was connected to my PC via a USB interface. After switching to my laptop I noticed a really annoying background hiss that would undermine the quality of my recordings. First I went into sound settings and turned the levels down to the single digits and while it kinda curbed the hiss, it was there and my base recordings suffered as now they sounded way softer.
Fed up with my circumstances I went and bought an external USB sound card thinking if I bypass the laptop's noisy sound card I can get some results. Sadly the hiss returned as if nothing changed
