  1. #1 Tutorials on Movie Trailer Voice?
I'm sure this has been asked thousands of times but for the life of me i couldn't find it on the forums search.

Pretty cliche style of speaking i know but a few character impressions i'm working on use that voice. What I don't understand is that many people with not so deep natural speaking voices are able to pull it off with varying degrees of success.

I've been doing alot of sirens with a drone to help expand my range but are there any other tricks to getting this voice?

    Thanks

Hmmm... if you're talking about the "Don LaFontaine" style of voice, and you don't have the voice naturally, I can't really recommend you try.

The problem with attempting to make your voice unnaturally deep and gravelly is that it can cause damage to your vocal cords, or perhaps your throat, if you use the throat walls to make the voice. Yes, that can make your voice stick that way, but it could also end up causing calluses (called "nodules") to grow on your vocal cords, which can cause hoarseness, vocal fatigue, and pain.

It would be better to find the niches in which your natural voice (or a variation of your natural voice) would be a perfect fit and stick with that, and leave the deep voices for the deep-voiced people.

Thanks for the reply. I've been hearing alot of tips on using your natural speaking voice and that is something i'm working on daily. However I have also been hearing alot of stories like Jake Foushee's and Ted Williams that makes me wonder if training a certain way can have a gradual impact on the sound of your voice.

Really though i just want that clarity and open tone. The feeling of your full body resonating which i seem to only be able to achieve some days when i'm first getting up in the morning.

As a matter of fact, if you're going for the deepest your voice can safely go, than recording first thing in the morning is the best thing to do; the vocal cords will be at their loosest, due to the fact that you've spent several hours breathing slowly.

An interesting fact: This was the method used by Weird Al Yankovic to record that deep voice in the "Truck Drivin' Song."
