Note - This Does Not Guarantee Work, But It Will Help You Grow As An Actor

I'm lame, I'm keeping the title simple for the contest. There's a few contests out there, but a lot of them are "popularity and public voting reliant" which leads to a lot of "impression reels" becoming the focus instead of the actual art of acting with your voice. Voice matching is good to be able to do but if you can't act then you are missing a tremendously crucial attribute when it comes to your voice over work. That's why we're holding this contest. It is designed to emphasize actual acting, your range is good but that's not the focus. Can you make a character sound believable? Can you really move your audience? That's something that is lost now, especially in the online scene. A lot of new voice actors try to go pro but focus on different voices and who can do the best "Morgan Freeman" impression. But the fact is a lot of your work in the professional world, especially to make some money may end up being commercial stuff. So we're going to touch on commercial narrations as well.

Unlike most contests where you get eliminated and that's it, we will provide a short explanation on why you were eliminated. The winner will receive a free professional website designed for their voice over work and unlimited server space as well as $75.

    http://azureprostudios.com/Blog/2012...w-as-an-actor/

How to Auditions: Submit your most recent demo reel. Nothing longer than 1:30. NO Impressions. No Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, no impersonating famous voice actors. Focus solely on a balance of range AND acting.
Rounds will be based on themes. No impression themes, emotional themes.
    Round 1: Commercial Narration (20)
    Round 2: Normal/Content/Happy (15)
    Round 3: Anger/Frustration/Rage (10)
    Round 4: Sadness/Depression/Crying (5)
Final Round: Combination of emotions to showcase the ability to act and mix emotions naturally. (2)

    Voting:
Judges only. This is not a popularity contest.

    Judges:
    Current Judges

    Kira Buckland
    Mark Allen Jr
    Clifford Chapin IV

Entrants: When eliminated you will get an explanation/quick, short critique.

Rewards: Free website design for your personal/professional use and $75 to go towards a new microphone.

    How to Enter:

Send your demo reel (character or commercial) of no longer than 1:30 to adam@azurepropress.com
    NO IMPRESSION REELS

We will take the top 20 participants. If we receive less than 20 we will adjust.

July 28th is just to submit your demos. I haven't set the time properly for the rounds yet.

Off the top of my head, I feel like it'll be something like this:

Round 1 Starts 8/1 and ends 8/15. Judging and Voting happens and results are posted by 8/22,

Round 2 Starts 8/22 and ends 9/5. Results posted by 9/12

Round 3 Starts 9/12 and ends 9/26. Results posted by 10/3

Round 4 Starts 10/3 and ends 10/17. Results posted by 10/24

Final Round Starts 10/24 and ends 11/7. Results posted by 11/14

That's essentially 2 weeks per round for each participant to submit their lines. I may end up bringing it down to one week, but right now I think that is enough time.

I'm going to talk with those involved to get opinions on how long each round should be etc. Demo/mic quality does not matter, I mean it does if mic quality is so bad it gets in the way of your reading, but people will not be judged on if they're using a headset or their demo mixing isn't on a professional level. This is strictly focusing on acting.

Also, I thought it was mentioned but I don't think so. I will be writing the lines for each round. No one will have to choose any monologues or whatever to read from. I will be providing all of the source material.

Looks fun. Will be great for practice as well. I will join, will probably make a new demo reel, or I will send in my recent one.
Love the fact you will be writing lines! I really have a hard time coming up with some good ones as english is not my first language. XD

Just sent my audition in! Looks like a good, ACTING-FOCUSED competition instead of that other one. =]

Yeah when I saw act your voice out's tiers I was kind of disappointed. Anyways this gives me a chance to start on a legitimate demo reel instead of my previous one. So when I get that set up I'll definitely be sending a audit your way.

Just wondering: I was planning on making a new demo, but don't have the time/help to actually mix in some background music. Do you mind if I just record the lines I had planned out and send that in without any of the background music and/or sfx ?

My recent demo is only 2 seconds over 1:30 (probably because of the name slate at the start). Is that still okay to send in?
