If you had everything you love taken away from you in an instant, what would you do? The pilot starts out with 10 year old Rachel Wels. Like most kids her age, they're full of hope and crazy dreams. But one day, that all changes. Her father, a patrol officer stuck with the nightshift.. His life is taken away as gun shots fire at him in the dead of the night, he leaves a young daughter and of course a wife of 15 years. The first two months after his death is a struggle, Rachel stays silent while her mother goes into a frenzy trying to support them both. She decides its enough and they move from big ole' Dallas,Texas to some small suburb in New York. 7 years past, and things aren't what they used to be. Rachel's mother decided to go back into dating, she is now force to stay with her abusive, controlling, and disgusting boyfriend Todd. When he's not destroying her mother, he's verbally abusing her.. or worse. At school things aren't that well either. Rachel is harrased constantly from the people in the 'in crowd'. With her two best friends, she feels unstoppable, they're the only thing holding her up. At night Rachel escapes into her dreams, her little piece of paradise, where she meets a young girl called Aurora every night, they console each other, but soon her paradise starts crumbling. What will Rachel do?
