  1. #1 The General Fire Emblem thread
Fire Emblem is a long-standing Nintendo franchise starting with the first game released for the NES, with 13 entries spanning many consoles, from NES to SNES to GBA, to GameCube to Wii and DS, with its most recent iteration on the Nintendo 3DS. A series of strategy games in a swords-and-magic setting, with every unit being a unique individual, with their own portraits, personality, and growth rates. You use many types of units, from Fighters swinging their axes, to clerics and mages, archers both on and off horseback, to sword wielding cavaliers on horses. But, be careful, if a units health reaches zero, they die. For good. But do not be deterred, the games aren't too difficult, though there are other difficulty modes for those who want an additional challenge.

You might know some of the characters from this series. Marth, the protagonist of the 1st, 3rd, 11th, and 12th games, as well as Roy, who hails from the 6th, appeared in the hit fighting game Super Smash Brothers Melee, and in the sequel, Smash Brothers Brawl, Marth returned, along with Ike, the hero from Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and FE: Radiant Dawn, for the Gamecube and Wii respectively.

The series never knew western shores until the 7th game in the series, Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (named just Fire Emblem outside Japan), and with one exception, Fire emblem 12 for the DS, every game since has been brought out of Japan.

At E3 2012, Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America, announced that Fire Emblem Awakening, the 13th game in the series for the 3DS, released this April in Japan, is coming to North America. (Europe has already gotten confirmation they're getting it).

With this wonderful news, I thought why not make a thread about it? This thread is to discuss anything related to the series, Awakening or otherwise.

Is Awakening the one where the art is done by Matsuda of No More Heroes fame? If so,then that IS good news. I guess we have Xenoblade showing that there is a market still for the hardcore fanbase starving for something more.

3DS? Darn. By the time the next console one comes out it'll be for Wii U. I've played every single one of those games so far and it would be pretty lame to miss out on that one.

I always did want to play Fire Emblem 4 and 5. The whole 2 part Generations thing that 4 had and the HUGE huge maps that brought a sense of scale on how big the Holy Wars of Jugral was. And 5 being the toughest game of the franchise and all.
