I'm planning to purchase my first VA microphone (I'm planning to buy this), but I realized that I'll have a problem...

The fan of my laptop makes quite a noise (I can hear it across my room without any problems), no matter how few programs I'm using. Do you think it had big influence to the recording? :S If so, I have to come up with another computer with which to record... the computers at my university (the whole computer rooms are able to be reserved even in summer) are not okay, as they are in big empty rooms where the voice echoes... aaagh. D:

It says it's noise-cancelling, but... roaring fan is a pretty big source of noise :S

You can try muffling the fan or insulating the mic. get a blanket and drape it loosely over the laptop (don't put it right up on the fan area - the air needs to circulate) If you are reading your lines off the laptop, then drape around as much of the fan as you can.

Keeping the mic pointing away from the source of the noise will also help, depending on the sensitivity of the mic.
You can even build the mic a little hoody of fleece or toweling, wrap it up like Kenny from South Park, and block out much extraneous noise.

Thanks for information. Luckily the sales people in the shop said that I can return the mic if I'm not satisfied with it... I haven't bought it yet :'D

More hesitating: I have read in several places that this mic won't work with Windows 7. Thinking about future... have people here met such problems?

    PROBLEM SOLVED.

Today, I got courage and purchased the mic, and I didn't get disappointed. This works wonderfully! And the noise of the laptop is almost nothing? (When it is at its quietest, you don't have to make noise removal at all, with louder times the noise is small.) Also I tested it on Windows 7 at my university, and it worked here, too. Yay!

Glad to hear you've got it figured out.
I have probably the exact same mic, and my laptop's fan is a bit noisy. I wouldn't say it's super great (compared to like professional standards), but it sure is a huge step up from using the laptop's built-in mic. I just keep the mic far from the computer's fan and cover it with a blanket (Even if it needs to circulate, I just completely muffle it, : D haha, since it's only for a little while, it should be fine) and there's just a little hiss, but it's passable, I think.
