The difference between an abridged and unabridged book can vary greatly depending on the specific book. By definition an abridged book is shortened. Unabridged books by definition are unaltered and in their original state. They are exactly as long as they were meant to be from the beginning. Abridged books will be missing content that was included in the original unabridged version.

]That being said, I'm unclear as to how you could possibly abridge an animated anything. I'm assuming this will all be audio and there is no way that you can portray the actual movements in the original animation. The old adage, "actions speak louder than words" doesn't apply here because you can't see what the characters are doing. This means that you will need to add a narrator and write the visuals. So really you wouldn't be abridging anything. You would have to revamp and have it unabridged.

I am currently (thinking about) working on a fanfic that is heavily influenced on that series. So maybe we can help each other out somehow. Hit me up at emitrots@gmail.com if you'd like.

It might have been better to start a new thread in 'General Chat' section instead of bringing up the question in this one.

That aside, the term 'abridged' sort of has another meaning since the rise of parodies based on Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series. The parody episodes are still shorter than the original ones but a lot of the content has been edited to the point where it not just abridging the content. But there are a lot of video edits that take place in an abridged episode. Lip synching is a big one but there are actions that take place. There are plenty of abridged episodes where the character move and do some kind of action.

When people use the word 'Abridged' in their animation parody, it's more-or-less to say to establish that it's one of the parodies that edits and dubs over (beloved?) animation. So just take the word with a grain of salt.

In the first post the guy said "The only problem is that I don't know the first thing about abridging." So I tried to inform him. I guess I only made things worse ☺. I've only heard of abridge and unabridge in audiobooks. I've never even thought about editing something down like that. I think between the two of us; he got his answer.
