  1. #1 Soundproofing my room?
Hi! So I live in a good old 70's apartment. Only problem is that the isolation in those are beyond terrible. My neighbours having a conversation? I can hear piece of juicy gossip. Mom wants something four rooms away from me? We can hear eachother just fine when we speak with indoor voices.

Let's not speak of the embarrasment of practicing lines...

So, I'm wondering, is there any way for me to soundproof my room to a reasonable degree? A big time renovation is a no can do, and moving out is impossible for another few years.

    Thanks in advance!

Agh, can't think of the name, those sound-absorbing bumpy foam pads you see in recording studios sometimes, those things. I heard lining a room with them works pretty well, so long as the material you use to stick them around isn't too damaging the the walls/ceiling upon removal. Not sure about how effective they are concerning outside noise coming in, but they should do a decent job if you're trying to keep your neighbors from thinking you're a psychopath (That's in terms of listening through the walls, if they come into your home and see that you've got a padded room in there, you might want to take some time to rehearse your 'splaining).

Auralex StudioFoam! I just got some. $100 for 24 pieces of 1"x1"x2" wedges. I live in an apartment as well, so I've been trying to figure out the best way to put them up without damaging the walls. I'm considering just building a small "booth" and doing it that way.

The foam will cut down on room reflections, but won't do too much in the way of sound-proofing. You can acoustically treat your space to make it sound better, but unfortunately real sound proofing is pretty expensive. If you have a closet you can use, that might help.

have you tried recording in a closet?
Important Note: I have a speech impairment. If it acts up, ask for a retake and remind me to slow down please. I also have a North American Southern Accent that I don’t know how to neither hide nor control; my accent comes and goes I guess.

my really good friend ashley heart is using that foam stuff hado was talking about in her closet for her own "recording studio". Lining ur room to help make it a little more sound proof can be expensive and depending on where you live you could die of heat with foam everywhere lol. I suggest finding a small space and doing as ashley is by making it ur own little space :3
cheaper. also you could try egg cartons. as ghetto fab as it sounds they do help :3

    ~_.Holy bleep I need a demo reel._~

Seriously? Egg cartons?! Hahaha! Thanks for the tip, that's the first I've ever heard of that! I'll definitely start saving my egg cartons from now on!

The egg cartons work even better if you stuff the little cups with old newspaper and/or discarded, thick fabric. Building a small booth is really no trouble... and it's not very costly. I did a booth of my own with extra wood lying around my yard and some old egg crate mattress. It works damn well for all the things I have done. To make it even easier you could build one wall of the booth and put it in a corner, using your two walls as the other sides. Drape a comforter as your "door" and line the inside with egg crate mattress, it's not very expensive.
