  1. #1 Thoughts on Fandubbing Already Dubbed Anime
This is really opinionated, obviously, but I'd really like to know about how people feel about it. One of the groups I joined just started a new project. This, of course, just happens to be an already dubbed anime. The first project we started was also, too, dubbed before. Now I understand that if the original dub was really awful and the team wants to recreate that, but what about the already really good dubbed ones they want to do all episodes for? And over-rated? Examples are like Soul Eater, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

I understand just for fun and doing maybe a scene for an episode...but all of them? I just..don't think you will get much views, other than the group members. I would rather do an abridge instead of just re-dubbing it...but that's just me. What about you?

Full series dubs would never happen. People say they will be they never will, it's a lot of work and a lot of people don't get it. You'll most likely get a few scene clips here and there.

Personally I'm not a fandubber, I prefer more original stuff. But I do it for fun here and there. Doing it for fun is fine, but the main thing should be that you support the anime you're fandubbing. Getting the scenes and episodes from a legal source, not ripping them from torrents and such.

Personally, I think it is good practice and you can support it easier than stuff that just came out in Japan. I love both fandub and original stuff but I find fandubbing that much easier than coming up with something original. I say do whatever you like to do, just support it in someway, rather it be DVDs, Merch, and other stuff.

Fandubs happen for one of two reasons (or some combination of both, but one reason is usually stronger than the other):

1.) The show isn't dubbed, and it would be great if fans could enjoy it in English.

2.) I like the show/character/scene a lot and/or I really want to voice [Character Name Here].

A cursory look at the VAA or YouTube shows that the majority of fandubs fall into the second category. People are fandubbing because they really want to voice their favorite character or sing their favorite song. That's why you'll see more fandubs of popular shows, or fandubs of shows already in English (including Avatar, Young Justice, and Disney Films). So yeah, it makes sense that people would want to fandub some or all of something depending on how much they like the show or the character.

It seems a bit pointless to me (unless there is no previous, decent fandub in your language). Also, I don't like imitating very much and would much prefer to voice a character that everyone watching/listening has never heard before. I'm not awesome at imitating so people would just get annoyed with my attempts lol.

The simple answer like topleka pointed out

It's vanity. People want to voice a character so they make a fandub of it.

Is the point of it just to have fun? It should not matter if its dubbed or not. All in all wouldn't fandubing something dubbed be easier for newer people though? Like they already have the exact lines and would not need to worry about scripting to match lips right off the bat. However i also like when people do new stuff right from Japan since nobody knows if there going to be dubbed soon by the officials or even dubbed at all. so its kind of a win win I guess.

For fun, I don't think it matters if it's been dubbed before or not.

I don't really like it if they ask people to sound like the dubbed voices though. I think people can use the original dub voice as a ref but doesn't have to imitate if they don't want to

Totally fun and awesome. Do it with what ever I say. Doesn't matter if it's already dubbed or not. Same goes for any Western animation too. I mean I don't quite get the issue. If ya'll fandub Disney movies, then what's the difference with anime?

The problem is finding a good place to post the final videos where they won't be taken down. I haven't done any myself yet because I'm afraid of being accosted by Youtube and other copyright holders due to the original animation footage. Though I will be doing one or two soon with material from some video games that seems to have no problem staying on youtube. So at least I've got that to work on. Though they aren't anime related.
I'm the guy of 1001 voices. Anything you want, I can likely deliver. Whether it be male, female, foreign or alien; I've got a voice for it somewhere.
