I know that I was about to audition on the day you cast the females, thinking that I had plenty of time before June 1, and even IcesWolf25 had sent off an audition only to find that by the time she'd refreshed the page, the role had been filled! You also have people constantly asking you "is this role filled, can I still audition?"
Furthermore, now that you have selected your cast early, you are still holding auditions for roles that have been filled? I understand that you are looking for the best voice and the best quality, but if a VA has poor quality, you shouldn't cast them only to drop them once someone better comes along. This is bad practice. I know there are other audition threads that cast-as-you-go, but once they're cast, that role has been finalized. Nobody else can take their place. Quality of the recording and acting ability are all taken into consideration in everyone's auditions.
The audition guidelines at VAA (specifically regarding deadlines in this case) promote clarity and are there to ensure that producers and VAs can be part of a smooth audition process, one without false hope, role-security anxiety and time wasted recording auditions only to find they've been cast. What you should have done is stick to the deadline of June 1 before casting any of the characters. Once you have received ALL the auditions, you select your main VA and an understudy for major roles so that you don't encounter the problem of your heroine disappearing and leaving a gaping hole in your project.
Finally, from your last post, it seems that a few of your selected cast members have already begun recording their lines, and as such, have committed their time and effort to the role. Yet, from your haphazard auditioning process, it's possible that the casted VAs could be dropped from the project even if they've recorded a substantial amount of their lines. If this were to occur, it would be an awful waste of their time and energy, not to mention abusing their (currently) free services they've offered towards your project.
In summary, once a role is cast, it stays cast. I understand nothing terribly 'wrong' has happened in this audition process so far, but there is potential for it.
