Greetings all,
I'd like to first start out by introducing myself to the community. I'm a first time poster, and I was recommended to this site by a friend of mine who does some dub over work through this site. If I could has his forum name I'd post it, but alas, I do not.
With that out of the way, when I told him I was thinking about including voice-overs to my RPG Maker VX Ace project, Whispers of Eternity, he suggested I look here first. Since this is my first time posting, and I'm not sure exactly what to to write, I will be following the template in the Guide section. Without further ado:
What is the project?
The project is a fantasy themed JRPG style RPG being produced in the recently released RPG Maker VX Ace engine.
What is it about?
A man who cannot remember his past finds himself in a globe trotting adventure to uncover the truth about the world he inhabits, while finding out some dark secrets about himself along the way.
What am I looking for?
Text can only do so much to portray the feelings of the characters to the players. It is no secret as to why 99.8% of modern video games, including RPGs, have switched to voices. I wish to do the same. I want to provide a voice the the various main characters of my game, to be present in important cutscenes, and battle sequences.
What Characters are open?
I currently need to provide voices to three characters. Here is a short detail of eachSample Lines for Each Character:
- Lyson - late teens to early twenties. He is the main male protagonist of the game - the hero. He is portrayed as a typical JRPG hero, for the most part. He is cocky, brash, reckless. He is filled with little quips and fourth wall jokes. All in all, he has a good heart, and would do anything for you if you asked.
- Elania - slightly younger than Lyson. She is the main female protagonist of the game. For the most part, she comes off as innocent and loving, but given the right stimulation and she can really show her bitchy side. She is an amateur spellcaster who dreams of someday being as powerful as her sister.
- Raelan - within the same age range of Lyson, may be slightly older. A tragic event in his past resulted in something terrible happening to someone he cared deeply about. Since that day he has vowed to never let anyone he cares about come to harm. He will protect them til his dying breath, if necessary. He has close ties to Elania, and treats her like a little sister. He is very protective of her. He has been trained to fight, and is well versed in the art of battle. His voice should reflect someone more mature, more cautious.
Lyson - Line 1: "Knowing my enemy? I didn't realize killing a wild animal required tactical battle strategy." -spoken in response to Raelan, who chides him for attacking an animal without knowing how dangerous it might be.
Lyson - Line 2: "Oh, you want some too, you mangy mutt?! Well bring it on!"
Lyson - Line 3: "So, I take it these Academy people are the bad guys or something?" Asking a sincere question.
Elania - Line 1: "Yup! I told you I was handy to have around. What would you do without me?"
Elania - Line 2: "Will you two cut it out with the macho ego trips, already?! There's a rabid wolf looking to have me for lunch, and I happen to know that I don't taste very good."
Elania - Line 3: "Look, what's done is done. I made a promise, and I intend to keep it. I know you can understand that." -spoken to Raelan, inferring he knows something about keeping promises.
Raelan - Line 1: "Damn it all! These stupid beasts just keep coming!"
Raelan - Line 2: "Elania?! (E lan ee uh) Get away from here! These beasts are dangerous!"
Raelan - Line 3: "Why didn't you take my advice? Rushing head first into battle without knowing your enemy? That's just foolish."
Deadlines?
The project is in a very early alpha stage, so there is no set deadline that needs to be met. With that said, the sooner I can get people cast for roles, the sooner I can write up and send dialogue to be recorded.

My preferred format is .ogg files, but I can accept .mp3s, as well. These are the two formats most compatible with RPG Maker VX Ace. For the file names, it can be something as simple as "Elania_Audition_Line2" or something to that effect. I'm not picky.
I don't think there's a need to .zip them, but that's entirely up to you. I don't think audio files can get that big.
Any other information you wish to include is fine with me.
In addition to the above lines, feel free to watch this youtube video of the current Alpha build of the game. If you see a line for a character that you'd like more than the ones posted above, feel free to use it instead.
