Sonic Unleashed begins describing the end of an untold story which sees Sonic confronting his nemesis, Doctor Eggman, bounding around a fleet of spaceships, and transforming into Super Sonic - Sonic transformed using the power of the Chaos Emeralds - in order to stop him, destroying Eggman's mech and knocking Eggman himself to the ground. As a trap, Eggman pretends to plea for mercy. When Sonic is close enough, he activates his laser, which traps Sonic in the center and begins drawing the Chaos energy out of Sonic and the Emeralds in a fashion that is clearly extremely painful for Sonic. After the laser is charged, Eggman fires it at the earth to wake a monster known as Dark Gaia, splitting the planet. The dark energy of the Emeralds is brought out by the ray, transforming Sonic into a monstrous version of himself and rendering the Chaos Emeralds gray and powerless. Eggman then opens an airlock which sucks Sonic and the drained Emeralds out into space and down to Earth. While Sonic is saved from a fatal landing due to an unknown energy source, he still ends up taking a heavy fall, landing on top of a flying dog-like creature whom Sonic names Chip. The resulting impact causes Chip to lose his memory (which Sonic thinks is his fault). Sonic agrees to help Chip restore his memory during their journey.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (M)
The laid-back, cool-headed, truer-than-blue hedgehog with a cocky attitude and a heart of gold. He’s loyal to his friends, and always keeps his word and he willingly puts himself at risk to help others, taking on any challenge that confronts him without hesitation.
LINE 1: (confronting Dr. Eggman, in response to his pleading for mercy) “Well, this is new. Showing remorse, Eggman? If you played nice, I wouldn’t have to break all your toys.”
LINE 2: “A planet-sized jigsaw puzzle? Sounds like a great excuse to see the world!”
LINE 3: (referring to his Werehog form) “What do you figure THAT was all about? The hair, and those arms, and... (gestures to the powerless chaos emeralds) And look at the chaos emeralds!”
LINE 4: “Yo, Eggman! Thanks for that little skydiving lesson the other day!”
LINE 5: *several grunts as you would make jumping, and being hit by something*
SONIC THE WEREHOG (M)
Sonic’s bestial and werewolf-esque form, an effect of Dr. Eggman’s chaos emerald-powered laser gun. Despite his more dark and feral mannerisms, he is the same compassionate, well-intentioned person. He has a gruff and growl to his voice.
LINE 1: *screaming as he falls to the planet after Eggman transforms him*
LINE 2: (the forcefield keeping him afloat in the air disappears and Sonic realizes he’s not standing on the ground, and again falls through the air/ more of a comical reaction) NOOOO!!!
LINE 3: (angry and mortified, right after Dr. Eggman transforms him into the Werehog) “You’ve really...gone and done it this time, Eggman!”
LINE 4: (to Chip after he regains his memories as Light Gaia) “I’ll bet it’s thanks to you. Even at night, when I’m like this. I’m still myself. Not like all the other people we’ve seen. You must have been protecting me this whole time.”
LINE 5: *several grunts as you would make punching, jumping, and being hit by something*
CHIP (M/F)
The kindhearted incarnation of Light Gaia: the representation of light, day, and rebirth. He was crushed by Sonic’s fall to the planet and lost all memory of his identity. He has a very childlike and innocent disposition and is often the comic relief of situations.
LINE 1: (frightened reaction to seeing the Werehog for the first time) “Don’t eat me! I taste bad!”
LINE 2: (an almost orgasmic reaction to ice cream) “Ooo...Chocolate chip sundae suuupreeeeme!”
LINE 3: (Directing Sonic in how to defeat Dark Gaia) “Sonic! Hit Dark Gaia’s weak spot! Quick! While I hold him back!”
LINE 4:(When realizing Prof. Pickle was kidnaped with concern that the Prof. might be hungry) “What a horrible thing to do! We've gotta rescue that professor guy and fast! If he was kidnapped that long ago, he'll be real hungry by now. And if I was that hungry, I don't know how long I will last! I'd rather be dead!”
LINE 5: (after regaining his memory as Light Gaia, giving his farewell to Sonic) “It’s been fun: getting to see the world! I’ve lived here since the planet began, but...I didn’t know a thing about it. That it’s so pretty, or that food tastes so good, or that people are so nice! I’m so glad I got the chance to discover that with you. And I’m so glad that you helped me find my memory. Sonic, I will never, ever forget you. Thank you, Sonic. Goodbye, friend.”
DR. IVO "EGGMAN" ROBOTNIK (M)
He is a short-tempered, loud, pompous, and cruel evil genius with an IQ of 300. Despite his intelligence, he is prone to temper tantrums when his plans go awry. He uses the power of Super Sonic to break the planet into pieces to awaken Dark Gaia and use its power to create Eggmanland.
LINE 1: (maniacally laughing) Oh ho ho ho ho ho ho!!
LINE 2: (in response to breaking the planet apart) “Success! A brilliant success!”
LINE 3: “I should have known you’d still be alive, you stubborn little pincushion!”
LINE 4: (in response to his robot reminding him of his numerous failures) “Oh, SHUT UP!”

PROFESSOR PICKLE (M)
A well-known professor from Spagonia. He was kidnapped by Dr. Eggman to help him complete his Eggmanland project. He can be somewhat absent-minded, especially when discussing food.
LINE 1: (upon being rescued by Sonic, Chip, and Tails) “How dare they call this culinary concoction food? Look here, do you see this sorry excuse for a sandwich? The bread should be no less than 3/4 of an inch thick. Upon it, one tablespoon of mayonnaise and a pinch of black pepper. The contents, FRESH cucumber, sliced THINLY if you please! Am I quite right, Tails?”
LINE 2: (explaining to Sonic, Chip, and Tails) “These ancient documents are known as the Gaia Manuscripts. They tell the legend of a disaster that befell our planet some tens of thousands of years ago. And according to the Gaia Manuscripts, this isn’t the first time the planet has been broken apart into pieces.”
LINE 3: (Defeated, to his knees, witnessing the return of Dark Gaia) “Dark Gaia has regained its true power. The beast is complete. It’s just as the Gaia Manuscripts foretold. ‘And the world shall be plunged into the dark of night, the dark of destruction.’ Oh, that it should come to this! We’re doomed. The planet is lost!”
MILES "TAILS" PROWER (M/F)
A kind, young fox whose intelligence rivals that of Dr. Eggman’s. He’s very humble about his abilities, and looks up to Sonic as his idol.
LINE 1: (Recognizing the Werehog for the first time) “Sonic...Is that really you? That’s a new look. What happened?”
LINE 2: “What? Professor Pickle’s been kidnapped?!”
ORBOT (M/F)
An assistant to Dr. Eggman who usually points out his mistakes and pokes fun of him because of them. They have a very dry and sarcastic personality (The character is male in the actual game but if any females want to try out for the role, I'm definitely interested!).
LINE 1: (in response to Dr. Eggman talking about his difficult plans) “Searching conventional wisdom banks for topical advice. ‘The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.‘ ‘Slow and steady wins the race.’ ‘Nobody likes a whiner.’”
LINE 2: (after Dr. Eggman’s plans of taking over the world go horrible wrong/ very deadpan) “Pleasant morning. Wouldn’t you say, Doctor? You can simply begin your plans anew. Even if all your efforts this last time were utterly wasted. Even if it was a complete and utter humiliating loss. Even the most pathetic loser in all of the world will surely have his chance to—”
AMY ROSE (F)
Sonic's self-proclaimed girlfriend, she is part tomboy/ part girly-girl with a ditzy attitude and a fierce disposition. Despite her violent tendencies, Amy has a good heart, never gives up, and is incredibly optimistic, even in the face of the world's end.
LINE 1: (as she's being twirled around) Hey! What's the big idea?!
LINE 2: (naďvely hopeful that the day will be saved) There's no way Sonic will let it end like this!
LINE 3: (witnessing the Werehog run away after he's saved a group of townspeople) Just now, was that...Sonic?
