    Final Fantasy XIII - A Man's Hope Is His Castle

    So I just finished FFXIII a few days ago, and when I got up to this scene I decided I wanted to try my hand at voicing Hope, so I got a cast together to help me on this scene. In this scene, Hope begins doubting his worth once again, and his Eidolon, Alexander, shows up.

    CAST:
    Sazh Katzroy :: McTricky
    Oerba Dia Vanille :: GoldenRodGirl
    Snow Villers :: Murdog09
    Oerba Yun Fang :: Fairuza
    Claire "Lightning" Farron :: Missack
    Hope Estheim :: McTricky

    Watch in 720p/1080p!

    MUSIC: Masashi Hamauzu, Jeremiah George (me)
    SFX: VAA SFX LIbrary
    EDITING & MIXING: McTricky

    I've really enjoyed that! I really liked your Hope's voice McTricky, i heard some accent here and there, but didn't bother me too much. I love everybody performance has well!

    For mixing, for me, I felt like there was too many small thing missing, but that's just me. Like some extra sound for the castle transformation, but it was still good none the less.

    This was an interesting scene. I didn't look at the cast list til after I watched it though.

    Tricky//Sazh and Hope: While I love you as Sazh, I didn't really like this performance all that much... it sounded a little monotone and I could tell that you were trying more with voicing Hope. There wasn't too much of a difference voice wise since I was curious as to who you had cast as Hope, then I heard him speak and knew instantly that it was you again lol. I definitely liked your Hope because it suited your natural young voice and your American accent is getting better and better every time I hear it! With Sazh, you played it cool, but I think it got to the point where it sounded too laid back and bored. Like I said, I loved your Hope. These characters seem to be a nice comfort zone for you. Well done!

    GoldenrodGirl//Vanille: I've never heard you before so I was really hoping that you weren't going to give her an American accent so I'm so glad that you tried to do an Australian one. XD a few reads seemed lacking in energy and were also a little bored sounding, but I love how young your voice sounded without changing it at all. I liked it.

    Murdog09//Snow: Hmm, I'll be honest... I was a little disappointed with this one. O.o I remember you sending me your lines and I suggested you redo the "So this is how it ends?" but it sounds like you didn't so it sounded kinda off. I dunno, Snow didn't sound all that heroic to me in this clip like he should. I did like the "leave the fighting to me" line though.

    MissAck//Lightning: You always play a great Lightning, Amanda. you did sound a little nasally here though, like you were straining a bit to make your voice deeper. Only a little bit though. Lovely line reads!

    Fairuza//Fang: Daaaaayum! You sexy gurl! XD I love that accent! I was hoping to hear you as Fang again so I could scout you for a clip. X3

    Mixing: I watched this on an iTouch so I can't tell lmao.

    Yay, it's here~! \^0^/ This is great! The mixing was awesome, and so were all the voice actors! The only slight problem was that Sazh and Hope sounded quite similar, and yes, I know they were both you before you point that out. XD Oh, and one thing with the mixing, as a nitpick, when Hope began sobbing in his palm, the SFX made it sound like he hit a baseball glove or something. To me, it sounded a bit off, but I don't know. That's anime and its sound effects for ya. XD

    Sazh Katzroy :: Hope Estheim :: McTricky
    I still think the voice was far too young for him. He is a fatherly character that is supposed to be in his early 40s and this voice just doesn't really do that for me. Tends to come off a bit as if you are trying to push your voice to the limit when it comes out of him. Some of the comedic lines were a bit off and held back because of that.

    Like others said Hope was a tad similar to Sazh, though I definitly liked it more on him. The voice seemed more comfortable and got the energy behind it for him.

    Oerba Dia Vanille :: GoldenRodGirl
    Don't think I've heard you either, so that was nice hearing something different. You did a good job for her.

    Snow Villers :: Murdog09
    Pretty good, though like Holly said he didn't sound all that heroic in some of the lines like he should.

    Oerba Yun Fang :: Fairuza
    Always love that accent

    Claire "Lightning" Farron :: Missack
    Did have a tad nasally almost lispyness in a few lines that made them not sound as clear as others, but other then that you were pretty great.

    Mixing was pretty good.

    Choosing to voice two major characters, while fun, did hurt the overall performance of this scene. On their own both characters have a need of a bit of polishing up, but when heard so close to eachother the flaws get intensified. The biggest problem was that the two voices seemed so similar. I could hear that you were doing things differently between the characters, but in the end it was obvious that it was the same person.

    Sazh: The biggest problem for this character is just age. Its not your fault and there is only so much you can do about it. Just gotta keep working at it or wait till you get a bit of extra texture from actual age. Anyhow, the acting wasn't bad, but there was one line that felt way off. "Not a single soul for miles around; not a single clue about this L'cie mess..." The flow felt awkward and unnatural. Going up on mess was what did it, it made the sentence feel cut off. Simply making it more matter-of-fact would fix that.

    Hope: This was your stronger role. It plays to your age or at least your range. If there is something I could say about this it would be to really work on pronunciation. You have this urban feel to your voice that betrays Hope's upbringing, so its distracting on the character.

    GoldenRodGirl
    Vanille: Not too much to pick at here. There was the bouncy character and the sweet voice, but just like in the game there was this odd accent. Sometimes you hit it, other times its slipped into something else. Just a bit more work at that and you should be great.

    Fairuza
    Fang: I find it strange. I've heard Fairuza tackle the part before and it was great. Something about this outing didn't seem quite right. The emotion was there and it felt right, but I think the accent was off. She didn't sound as convincing as I've heard her before.

    Murdog09
    Snow: Its really hard to say much here. It was a solid outing. Murdog seems really seems at home with the character and it shows in the performance.

    Missack
    Lightning: She got the soldier girl down, but more importantly she was softer in this and fit the scene. Well done.

    -Mixing-
    McTricky: The mixing was very nicely done. I think there were only one or two things that snapped me out of the moment. First Vanille's footsteps during the beginning. I think they were a bit too loud actually. Secondly the sound of the glove hitting his face seemed a bit too loud as well and the quality was a bit off. Outside of that the mixing was fantastic. Great work here.

    Thanks for the constructive feedback on the clip, guys! Haha, I really wish I knew I knew to cast as Sazh, so I didn't have to voice him myselft, because I don't like my own voice for Sazh all that much, anyway. In regards to Murdog's performance as Snow, a few of you say that his voice didn't have that "heroic vibe". While this may be a fair point and something to keep in mind when voicing that character, I believe his performance was just fine for this scene because...well, Snow had nothing to be heroic about, really.

    I dun goofed on the glove hitting SFX, left it too loud.

    Again, thanks guys! xD
