  1. #1 Guilded Age: the cartoon - one male role, one female role

    Project information –

Ahoy-hoy, chaps and chappettes! A project is afoot, and we find ourselves in sudden need of extra voices!

The project is a ~23 minute long pilot for an animated series based on the reasonably popular fantasy-adventure-comedy webcomic Guilded Age, which is influenced heavily by WoW, D&D, and other such sources. If you’re familiar with it, keep it under wraps – we haven’t officially announced it, yet, and we’d rather not ruin the surprise! If you’re not familiar with it, I highly recommend you take a gander at the first chapter or so to get the feel of it – you won’t regret it!

    http://guildedage.net/webcomic/chapt...apter-1-cover/

The cartoon will be taking place between Chapter 10 and 11 of the comic’s canon (shortly after the scene in the image above), and is written in a way that it can be considered canon, but in a “and then they never spoke of it again” sort of way.

It also has an amazing Billy Idolesque mid battle song scene, performed by the bard character. This has no real bearing on the roles available for audition, but I thought y'all'd like to know because OH MY GOD IT'S SO GOOD.

You will find the following attached: The script for the cartoon, visual references for all the important characters compiled into a .zip, and links to the animator and the composer for this project, if you’re interested.

    Script: http://guildedage.net/secret/crossfactions.pdf
    Refs: http://guildedage.net/secret/gareferencematerial.zip
    Animator – Phi Tran: phitus.deviantart.com
    Score – Dain Saint: www.cipherprime.com

[DISCLAIMER] – some of the characters in this production have potty mouth, of the relatively vanilla variety, but potty mouth nonetheless… but not these characters, so fear not! There’s also some vague innuendo, but again, not from these characters.
[MOD DISCLAIMER] – I’m not entirely sure this is the correct place for this project, since it’s based on copyrighted material, but the people who own the IP are behind the wheel, so if I dun goof’d, feel free to rectify it!

    Audition deadline –

With luck, we’ll be finalising all the casting on the 11th of February. Therefore, we’ll be needing auditions on or before the 8th of February. I apologise for the short audition period, but we’ve got deadlines too!

    Recording and Contact information –

You may send the auditions in whichever format you wish, as long as it’s a fairly common one, and as a single file for convenience. Relatively high quality is a must, of course, and save the files as "charactername_yourname.mp3". When you’re done, send it to me at matthew.lebrun.88@gmail.com.

    Characters -

    Name: Byron “the Berserker” Hackenslasher

    Age: Late twenties.

Bio: A laid back adventurer who's happy to work just hard enough to live comfortably and enjoy the quieter sides of life. He harbors no ill will to anyone (except those damned cultists), and tries to look on the brighter side of life no matter how much the world brings him down. Which is really important, because too much stress for Byron can lead to a massacre for everyone. Y’see, Byron’s a berserker in the traditional sense – the frothing at the mouth, rah rah anger management, kill everything that moves kind… but only when provoked. His rage is a sickness, and as such he’s a tragic hero. Recently, he took offense to a mortal wound and wound up killing most of the main cast. They were soon revived by a one-time deal with the powers that be, so it’s all good, right? Right? Nope, he’s still pretty bummed about it.

Here’s Byron in his natural habitat, in case you want to get more of a feel for him: http://guildedage.net/webcomic/chapt...pter-1-page-9/
Aaaaand, here’s him in therapy: http://guildedage.net/webcomic/chapt...ter-13-page-9/
And what he looks like in mystic-o-vision: http://guildedage.net/webcomic/chapt...er-13-page-19/

Voice type: Heroic, but not in a deep and/or booming “halt, villain” way. Let’s just go with everyman. Go with your gut, on this.

Lines: Byron only has about ten lines, all relatively short, and assorted whargarbls. I hate to be demanding, but we find two-line auditions to be difficult to fairly choose between, and since his lines have a lot of variance – sarcasm, fighting back the rage, drugged up, etc – we need someone who can do them all, and there’s only one way to demonstrate that. The script is attached in the project information, go nuts!
(note: for the whargarbls, feel free to just make up some frothy angry berserker noises, but if you could manage a whargarbl, please do, for obvious reasons)

    Name: Stokla

Age: College age – ripe for the activism

Bio: A troll shaman, she commands a task force of elite guerilla warriors whose purpose is to sabotage the efforts of the Gastonian Empire, in order to protect the coalition of the Savage Races (or World's Rebellion if you asked them). She's a soldier for her nation, proud and borderline fascist, but you can't blame her... every one of their lives are on the line if their enemies continue to flourish.

Here’s her comic debut (it goes back to her four or five pages later): http://guildedage.net/webcomic/chapt...ter-13-page-7/

Voice type: Stokla’s a troll. In the mythical sense rather than the internet sense. Gruff, hoarse, gritty, guttural, and she also has a couple of fairly prominent tusks (which could influence the delivery of her lines somewhat). While she’s not entirely feminine, she’s attractive by troll standards, so she should be identifiable as female at the very least.

Lines: As with Byron, Stokla only has about nine lines, so if you could do them all, please do. However, Stokla’s voice is probably going to be difficult to do, so if you’d rather cherry-pick your lines, that’s fine too. No point ruining your voicebox without the guarantee of it actually paying off.

EDIT: Here's an additional role we need some more auditions for!

    Name: Syr’nj

Age: Fairly young as wood elves go. Particularly in her early appearances, she has a lot of naiveté about the way things should be. Mid-20s equivalent.

Bio: Syr’nj is best described as a Wood Elf Science Hero, with a side of medic. She comes from royalty in the wood elf kingdom, though she cares little for the title or responsiblity that comes with it if it means a xenophobic nation. Carries an air of intellectualism, warmth, and courage. She's the defacto leader of the team due to recent... unfortunate events. She neither relishes nor disdains her duty, as she is a stalwart soldier for peace.

She’s something of a cross between Spock, MacGuyver, and Wilson from House. Except a lady.

She’s featured heavily in the prologue which starts at, you guessed it, the start. It highlights the tinkerer in her. http://guildedage.net/webcomic/chapt...apter-1-cover/
And here we get to see her as a medic. http://guildedage.net/webcomic/chapt...ter-1-page-13/

Voice: She sounds like she knows what she’s talking about, but isn’t by any means aloof. She's a precise thinker who learned her speech from books, but could still retain a little of her Wood Elf accent, which is non-specific, but slightly exotic. A pinch of Pocahontas wouldn’t go entirely astray, or, perhaps, European. Otherwise, go with your gut – we’re open to suggestions!

Lines: Same deal with the others: cherry pick from the script, or do the whole thing, either one's good!

    Parting words -
So yeah, that about covers it! Again, the deadline is the 8thof Feb, and send ‘em to me at matthew.lebrun.88@gmail.com. If you have any questions, requests, or comments, don’t hesitate to contact me via email. I’ll get back to you as soon as my work schedule and awful Australian internet allows. Thanks for your time, good luck, and most importantly, have fun!

Just letting you know that I will have an audition in after midnight tonight - gotta wait for my housemates to be asleep before recording some berserker noises.
