  1. #1 Online Relationships
I have a few friends who have online relationships. I of course completely support them. Even though I personally wouldn't go for it I am happy for them. ^_^ What are your views on this topic?

(I'm not sure if there is already a thread like this... O_o)

In one, we make it work, and we are pretty happy~

it's all about really committing to it, and knowing you got to fight for it, you also make plans to see them personally, and when you do, it's honestly the best feeling I have ever felt in my life.
I know some seem skeptic about it, or call me weird, but honestly, I see more LD relationships work out a hell of a lot better than face-to-face ones.

I was in an E-lationship. It was hard, it was incredibly difficult to 'meet up' and separating was even more difficult. When it finally came to the point where we decided to move in together, it didn't work out, and I had to move back home. I probably wouldn't get into an online relationship again...the intimacy that comes with being in their company is too important to me but I wouldn't say that all relationships online are doomed. You just have to really be prepared, willing to make some sacrifices and just be mature about the situation.

With Seymour on this. I'm in one as well and it's working out fine. Has been for a little over a year now. Which isn't much, but I mean....there aren't any real problems besides the obvious ones.

Like Kei said, i've been in multiple relationships that formed online. I myself having the need for human contact (You can't hug a computer....no you can't) could not keep a relationship online from crashing and burning. Again, not all relationships formed through the internet fail. I know multiple very happy couples that met online and continue to be together after years. I'm slightly envious of those people but it still is nice to see the ways of meeting that special someone expanding everyday.

I've been in one since 2006. I met her for real in 2008. We've promised to marry as soon as I finish college and move my ass to Massachusetts. It takes courage, sacrifice(a lot of it. Believe me.), and commitment. The same can be said for any kind of relationship, but online ones require special needs and then some.

    Completely with Seymour on this.

I'm currently in a relationship with a member here on the boards. I've known him since we both started and I couldn't be happier. Yes, it is difficult to keep it going and there are moments when we both think "This is too difficult" but we push on and are really happy even if we aren't personally with eachother. That just makes the visits more exciting, in my opinion, since it is a rare opportunity. He's supposed to be coming over for Christmas this year and I honestly cannot wait for it. Those butterflies stay with you and having to meet up only every so often gives you that nervous feeling back as though it's still new.

It does take alot of commitment and if you really love the person then you'll continue to push on. I personally believe that people are more open on the internet, they can speak to people about anything and reveal their true selves. My mother met her boyfriend online and they now have my gorgeous little sister between them, living happily together. That is just one of the stories that I have about LD relationships even if they were at least in the same country. It is difficult for everyone but even more difficult when in completely different countries and takes alot more effort [I'm in the UK, he's the US]. However, if you do truly care about the person then it really is a lovely thing. When you meet, you value your time more than you would if you saw the person every single day.

    That's just my personal opinion.

You've gotta remember: The Internet opened up a vast resource to connect to various people across the globe. While some people abuse it, I think that Online Relationships can work, given the two people have a desire to MAKE it work. I personally wouldn't do it because I value the one on one communication (face-to-face). Now, if for some reason one of my online contacts who was around my age and I met up at a con or something and decided to hit it off, that would be different because we met before any romantic feelings were involved. Eh. :/

I was in an online relationship with a guy for... almost 5 years. I "met" him when I was 13, face-to-face met him when I was 17/18. He... wasn't what I expected... physically. Then I was in a relationship with a girl whom I've met before that was online, it went a lot better. Plus she was close, she was a reasonable distance away. We could meet up in a park or something. The guy was a couple states away.

Plus inflections. When you read something, you read it in your own voice, not theirs. So missing meanings are rampant. Plus the boy I was with was a bit monotone and boring-sounding, so... yeah.

Tried it, didn't really work. I'm a very physical romantic, so I need someone with me.

If you wanna meet someone as a potential lover, converse online for a year, then meet up. That way, you'll have a base for their personality and character. And the emotions comes later.

Not really hating it, not really loving it either.
