Based on the dubs you've seen from certain companies, which ones would you say are your favorite and why?

I guess I'll start by saying, I don't have a lot of favorite dubbing companies, but I'll list a few.

    (Not in order)

    1. Ocean Group

Reason: It's true that Ocean has done some low quality dubs in the past, but recently I think that they have begun to step up their game. I really liked their Inuyasha, Gundam 00, Death Note and Black Lagoon dub and I think their one of the finest dubbing companies out there. One of the main reasons I believe people turn Ocean down is because of their previous dubs such as DBZ which I think many can agree wasn't that great, especially the acting. But Ocean has proven to me that they can make decent dubs, I was mostly impressed with their Death Note dub, which I think was just as good as the original version if not better. The cast, acting, script seemed to be quite solid in my opinion.

    2. FUNimation

Reason: I do think FUNimation over the years has improved a lot, when I look back at their English dubs for anime such as DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho, I can tell that they are no longer the company they once were. I haven't seen much of FUNimation's latest works, but I have seen FMA, FMA: Brotherhood, One Piece, and Ghost Hunt. In my opinion these dubs define FUNimation as a company that's capable of making high quality dubs and one of the main reasons why I think their one of the top dubbing companies around.

    3. Studiopolis

Reason: Like Ocean and FUNimation, Studiopolis has made low quality dubs. However the years have gone by and I think they have started to make smarter choices especially when it comes to scripting and the acting. In terms of voices I always thought Studiopolis was solid, but I did feel that they at times made bad choices. Their Naruto dub was pretty decent dub for its time, but looking back at it, I feel that the dubs could have been a lot better in terms of acting and script. The main problem I had with Naruto was the lip flaps and at times I felt some of the actors were having trouble getting into character. Shippuden in my opinion is a major improvement, I think the cast have improved a lot and the acting does seem a lot better then it did back in the original Naruto.

Ooo good idea for a thread! I have a ton of favorites as well, but I'll just list a few

Funimation: I've always loved their work, their actors, and just their whole take on everything. If I had to list everything I loved that they have dished out it, the list would go on forever. A very professional company, one of the best in the country, if not the best, and full of such nice and dedicated people.

Bang Zoom: Ever since I found out about AX Idol, Bang Zoom has always been in my thoughts and to tell the truth it always will be. They dish out some awesome dubs every year and I really love their work: TMOHS, K-ON, etc. Like Funimation, they have the nicest group people working there. Bang Zoom will always be close to my heart because it was the first company I got to work with.

Totally forgot about Bang Zoom, I really liked their dubs of Gurren Lagann, Blade of the Immortal and Ghost Slayers Ayashi.

    Here are mine:

    5. Funimation: I have mixed opinions of their dubs. While they always retain the original music to their dubs and they almost always get good voice casts, there were some dubs that made my ears bleed. Ouran High School Host Club was one that I HATED, because Vic McDerpADerp got casted as Tamaki and ruined him for me. T_T Despite that, almost every other dub I've seen by them has been good.

    4. Ocean Productions: Although they make cuts to some of their dubs and they make a few dialogue changes, they have a LOT of good voice actors. They did a WONDERFUL job with both Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha. I've also seen some of Gundam Wing and was impressed with their work on that as well. Also, my favorite voice actor (Scott McNeil) works for them. <333

    3. Viz Media: After Geneon went out of business, most of their VAs went to Viz. Viz does an excellent job with their dubs and I'm impressed with most of their work, other than a few mess-ups here and there.

    2. Bandai: Bandai did work on one of the best dubs I've ever seen, Wolf's Rain, as well as other dubs. Though they mostly do video games and toys, they did good work on the anime that they dubbed.

    1. Geneon/Pioneer: They no longer exist, but when they did they were VERY good. They retained all the original music and translated it into English, hired good VAs, and did their best to match each VA with a character that their voice suited well.

    1. Studiopolis. Most of their anime work is kind of atrocious, but Jack Fletcher doesn't work for many other companies, to my knowledge, and he is my absolute favorite director working. He's remarkable. Examples include: The flagship Final Fantasy titles (not including the compilation of FFVII), Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, and several Miyazaki films.

    2. Ocean Group. Lots of unique voices and they're not afraid to just...be actors. The casts in Ocean Dubs are usually very natural actors and cool fits for their characters. Examples include: Nana, Black Lagoon, Death Note (to an extent), and so on.

    3. The rest of the world.

    4. Bang Zoom/Bandai. Examples include: Awful things.

    Spoiler:

Section 23 is, basically, the same thing. Same people working, at least. Also Sentai Filmworks. Both.

    My favorite dubbing company is any that hire me. >.>;;

Ocean was the first group I ever took notice of because I was very much into Zoids.

    1. Nelvana- they did such a good job with the original Beyblade, 2 this day i still listen 2 the full length songs from the english score they released, i saw some clips from the japanese version, and most of the main characters were voiced by women, im mostly okay with that, but i cant take kai seriously as a self-proclaimed badass that way, plus theres like silence for the beyblade battles, not even any music playing, so the dub got it right.

    2. Ocean is rlly good 2, which is why it sucks that (in my opinion) most of the stuff they get 2 dub isnt so interesting. they did get Inuyasha, tho, wich is like the best series ever :3

All right, let's get down to it.

    1. FUNimation: They're just the best. Things started out rough with DBZ, but their dubs have pretty much been consistently good since then, minus some exceptions (DB, DBGT, etc.). Many of their dubs are on par with the Japanese version, some are even better. There's a diverse group of people over in Texas voicing for the dubs, and considering how many hundreds of anime they've dubbed, a few bad dubs is an impressive track record. They're also the only company that goes that extra mile to sometimes faithfully adapt the anime songs, and I think more companies should do that type of thing.

    2. Bang Zoom: In terms of voice actor pool, they're probably just as good as FUNi, but they lack little things here and there. Like sometimes there will be questionable terms in the script adaptations ("Lasengan" over "Rasengan" (from a man who calls himself the Spiral King [Rasen = Spiral].), and "Giga Drill Break" over "Giga Drill Breaker" in Gurren Lagann). But those are just nitpicks, they're still one of the best.

    3. NYAV Post: Now, I'll admit, this is mostly due to their Bakuman dub. But the dub is really that remarkable. It did start off a bit hazy too, with both Moritaka and Akito sounding like adults rather than teenagers in the first half of episode 1. But after that, the actors did an amazing job of getting into character. The voices are good, the line delivery is good, my only complaint (and it's a nickpit) is some of the mispronounced names. Though, that's just to be expected from an English dub. This company certainly has the skills, they just need to get out there and dub some more anime. It's great hearing talented 4Kids voice actors in dubs that don't stink.
