13 Youtubers sued for uploading Naruto and Bleach related content

This stuff makes my skin crawl. Has anyone heard that junk floating around about the new law being passed? 5 years in prison for having copyrighted material online? Or am I making this up? Sigh. My blood's gonna start boiling, not that it ever cools, but seriously though. What? I'm not talking about straight uploading dubs or subs, but fandubs. We're only showing our love for something plus it's free advertisement. Sigh.

That law is misinterpreted. That new law is just an update to the current copyright law to fit in with modern times.

The jail time only refers to making over a certain amount of money off of your copyright infrignement. Like over $5000 or somerthing. It means if you're costing the copyright holder money then they are able to pursue legal action against you. Fandubs and things like that won't be affected.

The only people who should be concerned with that law are abridgers who sell merchandise based off of copyrighted content/make money. But even that's slim to none of happening.

Legally they can't do jack against people if they get donations, and just so happen to be making abridged series. Because legally they can't make people NOT give out their own money, freely. Also, If the stuff sold is changed enough to not be a copy righted image, but still can be obviously a refrence, they also can't do anything about it.

Not talking about donations. I'm talking about selling direct merchandise infringing on copyright content. They can do jack about that.

Personally I don't really agree with altering someone else's intellectual creation to make money off of it in any form. Abridging is fine if it's just online content for laughs. Trying to make money off someone else's creation, then no.

Especially if the creators get ad revenue by hosting their shows on official sites and people who host the shows elsewhere get their OWN ad revenue. It's like being paid to steal.

As much as I hate to say it, the lawsuit is justified and since it's from a popular streaming website like Youtube, these 13 users are being made an example of to scare off other potiental users who upload or even other streaming sites. What I fear though that this may turn into a huge roller coaster and other anime studios/distrubitors will follow suit.

wonder how many of those were fandubbers, but that makes me sad bcuz rite now i got a naruto fandub in the works :/
