This . . . is my most ambitious story I've ever had. I've sat on it for five, almost six years, modifying and tweaking it ever since then. It is really ambitious, my effort at achieving something like Shattered Heaven or Twin Stars. I've longed to do something like this in any form, and have held back for a long time.

I've had enough holding back and cutting corners. Even if it kills me, I want this story out there, in some form, one way or another.

If I can get enough finances, this may become paid work. Key word: MAY. There are no guarantees here.

And just to prove that I can still bring it, Devoted Episode 4 is pretty much imminent, I need one line and then the episode will be released. So yeah, I am not sidetracking myself. I am downgrading the importance of the fan-based Endless Blue project for this one, an original story . . .

Probably my most tragic and epic story.

I'm reaching for the stars again . . . and probably going to go splat. But I plan on this making some noise before my inevitable splat.

Fate's Consonance

The double planet Savior, home to the worlds Kaguya and Nosferatu, is the home to exiles. Races that had spread out too far across the galaxy and received a swift punishment by doing so. No one knows how their races were so swiftly killed, and why only a select few remained alive, not even the Tri-Presence who sheperded the survivors to Savior. Now, the extinctions and histories are considered close to being mere legends, not actual history. Only a few events from that long ago remain confirmed, as some artifacts and relics from the races' destruction years remain.

But what reminders that remain are impossible to ignore.

In the sky, Nosferatu looms as a never-ending threat, a world of corruption and abominations. And the Tri-Presence near-gods have been reduced to only two of the original three members, Esther and Sophia. Esther continues to guard the sky, preventing Nosferatu from corrupting Kaguya, while Sophia must continuously reincarnate in a new vessel. And right now, there is no Sophia to keep the peace, and Kaguya is the treshold of a brutal war between the human-based nation of Terra and the elven-like Rondvels of Selan, one that has ended in Terra's defeat other than a redoubt in the mountains. The only hope for the humans is the knowledge that Sophia will reincarnate as a human . . . and her power will end the war one way or another.

But for the occupied in Terra, life goes on.

Mathew Sulerson, a young man, has managed to survive not only the war, but a troubled childhood that has led to him leading the life of a mercenary. Traveling with a small group led by a young woman named Ash Morrow, Mathew helps smuggle the persecuted Slants from one place to another . . . for a fee, of course, along with certain other jobs. With him is his young sister Emily, a girl only now reconnecting to the world after years of abuse from their father. But when something goes wrong during a routine mission, Mathew is suddenly faced with the death penalty, and Emily finds herself hunted by the authorities.

Helpless to save her older brother, the only family who has ever loved her, Emily suddenly demonstrates an act of impossibly great power to save him . . . one that reveals that she is the newest reincarnation of Sophia. But realizing the powers of the only earthbound member of the Tri-Presence comes with a horrific price: little by little, Emily mentally and physically will be stripped away until she is nothing and Sophia is everything. No matter what happens, Emily will die, whether she is killed by an external force, or assimiliated into Sophia.

Mathew is caught in a vicious conrundrum. Can he lay down his life to protect someone who will die anyway no matter how hard he tries? And is Sophia's power enough to not only end the war, but to prevent a far more nefarious force from striking and ending all known life in the universe?

Race: Human

Description: A teenager who was abused as a young girl due to her father believing she was possessed by a demon, Emily now lives on the landship Menelaos with her brother and others. She remains fairly quiet around strangers but can be chatty around people she knows incredibly well. She is not an especially brave girl but is driven to become one by Sophia, and Emily tries to face her end with dignity and bravery . . . but she can't remove her fear completely, her fear of an inevitable death no matter what she does . . .

Race: Human

Description: He committed patricide seven years ago to rescue Emily from his insane father. Now, he makes ends meet by working various odd jobs. Mathew is courageous and strong-willed but is crushed when he discovers his sister's fate after an improbable rescue. Now, he must come to terms that Emily will die, but at the same time, her death could save this world. Can he still muster the energy to protect her? And can he come to terms with his best friend's desire to become human?

Description: An energetic Moniline who's partnered up with Ash and Mathew, Fekara has fallen in love with Mathew and has increasingly been in her human form to try to get his attention. Fekara is a textbook case of "Species Identity Disorder", and finds Mathew a lot more resistant to a change in their platonic relationship than she expected, as well as strong criticism from her brother Grelo. At the same time, Fekara is also close to Emily, and considers Emily her little sister. She is determined to protect Emily at all costs.

Race: Moniline (occasionally takes human form)

Description: Fekara's older brother, Grelo has become increasingly distressed over Fekara's increasing closeness with Mathew, and has realized that Fekara has Species Identity Disorder. At the same time, he does not wish to destroy his and Fekara's own close relationship, and finds himself dragged into the intrigue surrounding Emily. By far the most reluctant member of Ash's team, now Grelo is at a crossroads. Are any of the choices available to him the right one?

Race: Slant (50% Human/ 50% Rondvel)

Description: A Slant who has lived in Terra for some time, Mia's hideout was recently destroyed by a Rondvel military raid and is now on the run. She is using her life savings to pay to be smuggled out of the capital city to a more remote area where she can live in relative peace. When that is bungled, Mia's life is on the line, as well as her young daughter. Is there anything she can do to save either of their lives?

Age: 43.
Race: Moniline

Description: A proud Moniline clan leader in Terra, Hidas has managed to keep relations with the new Rondvel rulers from becoming strained. At the same time, he is working secretly with the resistance movement led by Terra's former king Michael as well as Michael's daughter Clarissa. It is a delicate balancing act, and one Hidas is good at, but his outward support for the Rondvel regime has cost him the support and respect of many of his clan.

Description: Mathew's buddy, Zackary doesn't have the luck of Mathew, much of it due to his criminal record and a tendency to screw around with tech. However, his life seems to be turning around, as he's finally gotten involved in Ash's operation and is eager to prove himself. But when his life is turned upside down by a single mistake, Zack just wants out. But is there a way out when you're friends with the latest version of Sophia? Not really. It's going to be an uphill battle . . .

Quinn Morrow

Description: Ash's younger brother, Quinn helped design the transport vehicle Ash and her gang transport in, the Menelaos. A mechanical genius, Quinn is fairly irritable around people, but has a deep crush on Emily that so far he hasn't gotten the courage to act upon. Considering that Emily's days are numbered, is there any good resolution for Quinn's feelings? And can he help Ash keep their business alive?

Monavult Cazul (Moh-nah-vut Cah-zol)
Age: 23
Race: Rondvel.

Description: The youngest child of the Emperor of Selan, Monavult has been tasked with stewardship over the Terran capital city, Tassill. He is exceptionally young for such a role, but as his older brothers and sister are all in military positions tasked to crushing the Terran resistance and other family members already have important positions, he is the only regal available. He is in for a helluva crash course, and becomes a target for assassination, and becomes pressured to outright kill the newest Sophia reincarnation. He cannot be indecisive . . .

Age: 92 (appears 30-35)
Race: Rondvel

Description: An intelligent political adviser to the Selanian Emperor, Wes has been tasked with educating and advising the young Monavut. Thanks to still seeming young thanks to the slowed Rondvel aging process, Wes is frequently underestimated and takes a private, selfish joy at proving people wrong. He and Kona do not get along very well and frequently butt heads.

Michael Farley
Age: 41
Race: Human

Description: The disposed King of Terra, Michael is an expert in political and social affairs but is an incompetent military strategist. Embarrassingly, he has had to delegate military matters to his daughter who has been groomed by Terra's top remaining general, Alonso Pasdar. This has made him something of a figurehead whose only purpose is to rally the people. He is prideful and hates feeling useless, but will he have to swallow his pride for much longer?

Age: 35
Race: Human

Description: Terra's top remaining general, Alonso won some local victories against Selan but was ultimately unable to stop Terra's defeat. In the two years since Terra's remaining forces became a resistant movement in the Woodring Mountains, he has taken his king's young daughter under his wing and has managed to give her a successful crash course in military strategy. However, he still holds most of the responsibility. And he doesn't want to give it up anytime soon.

Description: The only member of the Tri-Presence who continues to be reborn on Earth, Sophia has lived for millenia, but despite her long memories she cannot recall who she originally was, only since she has become this being. She is wise, encouraging, and warm, and has nothing but sympathy for Emily despite gradually taking her over. But her goal, above all else, is to survive, and put an end to the current conflict before it becomes a world war. Her behavior seems to suggest there's more going on than it seems . . .

Age: 19
Race: Human

Description: Captain of the landship Menelaos this is a young woman just trying to eke out a living, Ash has become an elite smuggler and a really good shot, though she is insistent on taking on her young organization's assassination missions on her own, despite gaining employees such as Mathew, the Timoltz siblings, and Zackary. She has no preferences between Terra and Selan, but finds her independence jeopardized not only by becoming a fugitive, but harboring Sophia's reincarnation. And she's anything but thrilled about that . . .

Amelia Kerowe (Ah-meal-ya Ker-oh)
Age: 6 (appears 8-10)
Race: Slant (75% Human/25% Rondvel)

Description: Mia's daughter. However, she is not growing up as fast as a typical Rondvel due to having a majority-human heritage, and so is maturing only at a slightly-faster rate. She does have incredible maturity for her age and speaks eloquently. Her Rondvel heritage is scarce in her appearance, she only appears exceptionally tall for a human child. She becomes really close to Emily and doesn't want to lose her.

Kaede O'Connor (Kai-ay-day Oh-Kon-ner)
Age: 18
Race: Human (imbued with Tri-Presence energy)

Description: An old friend of Mathew and Emily, Kaede was suddenly Summoned one night to serve at Esther's side, but returns early in the story to protect Emily at all costs. However, she is the only Tutelary to arrive, and Kaede is close to mum on why, saying only that if she falls she will be replaced. She has become exceptionally powerful, but is not invincible. She has also undergone a personality change, the bright, energetic girl is now a deadly serious young woman, only making her more of an enigma . . .

Sevara Merlis (Seh-varah Mrr-lehs)
Age: 135 (appears 35-40)
Race: Rondvel

Description: A great general of Selan, she had a falling out with the royal family after growing disillusioned over the war and the persecution of Slants. She becomes a prisoner, and is kept in a high-security cell, only for the chaos of Clarissa's assassination attempt to break her out. She is a highly athletic fighter, capable of feats thought impossible for Rondvels, and has an intelligent mind. However, the years in prison have embittered her and she has a dark mindset.

Clarissa Farley
Age: 17
Race: Human

Description: The crown princess of Terra, Clarissa, under Alonso's tutelege, has become an aggressive military commander. Driven by vengeance due to the deaths of her older siblings, Clarissa manages to remain a calculated person and makes deliberate plans. The newest plan is to assassinate Prince Monavut of Selan, which she hopes to do personally in order to drive Selan into a state of panic. Can she strike a blow to turn the war around? Or is the answer lie with a young girl she encounters?

Jodi Palencia
Age: 28
Race: Human

Description: Clarissa's close friend and a personal bodyguard, Jodi has been protecting Clarissa since Clarissa was a young girl. Jodi is far more reserved and cautious than the princess she protects, which is both a good and a bad thing. She has exceptional strength for a human being but is embarrassed to use it. While caring and gentle in private, she has killed a lot of people in her life and can do it with a stone-cold expression on her face.

Kona Mervew (Koh-nah Mer-view)
Age: 94 (appears 30-35)
Race: Rondvel

Description: Monavut's military adviser, Kona has no respect for either Moniline or humans. While publicly she says she only wants humans and Moniline to politely stay out of Selanian affairs, internally she gets a serious kick out of abusing and manipulating all of the other four races, and is not above manipulating her own countrymen as well. Any tactic is of use to her, and she finds the prince quite easy to bend to her will. At the same time, she is deathly afraid of Sophia and is aware that Sophia's reincarnation could literally appear any day now . . .

De'Mosa
Age: 32.
Race: Tresvegr.

Description: A bounty hunter from Solakee, De'Mosa has come to Terra in search of good work, knowing full well that the Rondvels of Selan don't like getting their hands dirty. At first, De'Mosa is to kill the Terran princess Clarissa, but soon finds the orders have changed: the latest Sophia reincarnation must die. This means nothing to De'Mosa, work is work, and it's not like Tresvegrs haven't assassinated Sophia reincarnations in the path. But is De'Mosa too overconfident to succeed like others before?

Terminology (very important for understanding events and audition lines)

Countries

Terra

Known for its high amount of humans, along with smaller amounts of two other races. Terra is the only country with a significant population of half-humans, known generally as Slants. Terra is the only monarchy that is a constitutional monarchy, it has a set rule of laws royals cannot break and has a representative government that holds considerable power, though nowhere near as much as royals do.

Selan

Has the largest population of the longevity-blessed Rondvel. Selan has a significant human population but cross-breeding for Slants is against the law and is punishable by death to the parents and the child. Selan is one of the more technologically advanced nations on Kaguya. It runs on a straightforward monarchy, but its leaders are known to be approachable and sympathetic to the needs of the people.

Solakee

The primary races are Moniline and the beastmen called Tresvegr. It borders Terra and is technologically the weakest of the nations. It is famous for its warrior mercenaries. Due to the Tresvegr's general dissinterest in government and preference to live in small tribes, the Moniline generally control the federal democratic government with a few exceptions. Unlike Terran Moniline, though, Solakee Moniline rarely put on human guises. The government is a traditional ally of Terra and is continuing to assist the resistance in Terra.

Vern
Population is almost purely human. It lies to the northeast of Terra and is obscured by mountains. It has a massive airship fleet that makes even Selan tremble. It is not a traditional ally of Terra, however, and has not made a move in support nor against it. It considers itself a empire and is considered the most dictatorial of the five nations.

Kuroe

Located to the southwest of Selan and includes some island chains. Home to the aquatic Nem, along with some Tresvegr to the north, humans in the northeast regions, and Rondvel almost directly eastward. A nonfactor in the war, Kuroe prefers to live aloof of the rest of the world's affairs and live in general peace. Its deterrent against enemy attack is a strong navy. It is also a democracy, but puts more control in the representative side of government as opposed to the executive and judicial branches like Solakee does.


Races

Humans: . . . Humans are, well, humans. However, they are biologically compatable with Rondvels and Moniline . . . up to a point (not every inter-breeding is a success). Physically, they are weaker than every race except the Nem, but their intelligence is on the level of both the Rondvel and the Moniline. They generally are the artists and innovators on the planet.

Rondvels: Basically elves. However, they are not ageless, but they do live for a long time (usually about three hundred or so years), and their children mature into adults far more quickly (they become the equilvalent of twenty-one at age twelve). They are somewhat compatable with humans, resulting in Slants, a human/Rondvel mixture. Rondvel tend to look down on Slants, and the Rondvel who live in Selan actually persecute these hybrid beings and their parents, as well as those who would shelter, smuggle, and otherwise protect them. They also have limited ESP, mostly restricted to mind-reading and some telekinesis.

Moniline: To put it simple, they are cat people. Their genes are immensely modifiable, and many have nanomachine-powered gene-alterers in their bloodstreams that allow them to transform into humans or Rondvel and back (though most choose a human form as Moniline find humans more attractive than Rondvel) for infiltration purposes. They are a race on the decline, mainly because many fall in love with humans and opt to permanently become one of them (which is known among Moniline as "Species Identity Disorder"). Notably, they are completely resistant to ESP but this is a double-edged sword, while this is a strength in combat situations, when Moniline are masquerading as a member of a different species, this resistance is a dead give-away.

Tresvegr: Beastmen who have reptilian traits, and are actually cold-blooded so they have to carefully monitor their body temperatures. They are incredibly strong and fast, and physically are the most imposing. Many become mercenaries and assassins. There is a code of honor among them, however, and those who fail to respect this code can become victims just as easily as assigned targets.

Nem: An aquatic, seclusive merman-type creature who live mostly in the oceans. They do not appear in this story but they are mentioned.

Other

Sophia's reincarnations: Sophia's reincarnations are in rotation with all five species. However, Sophia's attempt to reincarnate will fail if her host dies prematurely as a child (particularly when it is the Tresvegrs' turn due to the Tresvegr's brutal lifestyle, only two Tresvegr reincarnates have ever transformed into Sophia completely). This is not enough to end Sophia forever, she simply goes to the next species in the rotation. The reincarnations go in this order: Human, Nem, Rondvel, Moniline, Tresvegr. And yes, the latest Tresveger Sophia reincarnate did die as a child, delaying Sophia's re-emergence for a good decade.

Species Identity Disorder (SID): Moniline consider this a mental disease among them. Many Moniline have gene-alterers in their bloodstreams to transform them into either humans or Rondvel (though most choose humans), in order to infiltrate their societies usually for thieving or spying purposes, or to utilize the human economy. However, many of these Moniline begin to fall in love with a member of the species they can transform into and steadily begin identifying themselves as either a human or Rondvel instead of a Moniline, and eventually opt to remain in their transformed states for good. That is Species Identity Disorder in a nutshell.

Summoning: At any time, any member of the five races could be summoned into service in the skies by Esther, to fight Nosferatu's threat and keep Kaguya safe. They almost never return to Kaguya unless Sophia's reincarnation is revealed, in which case six of them head back into Kaguya to protect Sophia until the reincarnation fully realizes her power. Many "Summonings" are false, they are actually kidnappings cleverly disguised as Summonings so friends, family, and police may not be as willing to investigate.

The Enemy: A basic name for a vicious force that is rumored made up of biological/technological zombie-type beings. No one knows who this force's commander is (not even the Tri-Presence), but the Enemy is reportedly responsible for the destruction of nearly all life in the galaxy, though such a victory came at Pyrrhic cost to itself, as it is but a remnant of its former strength like all of the races on Kaguya.

Tri-Presence: A trio of beings gifted with near-god levels of power, based off of three humans supposedly but this is disputed. Joseph, Esther, and Sophia were their names, but Joseph was lost when Nosferatu (then known as Pele) was occupied by the stygian Enemy. Esther has stopped reincarnating and has since concentrated all of her power on keeping Kaguya from meeting the same fate as Nosferatu, remaining in the skies and space while Sophia protects and leads the people.

Tutelary: A guardian of the latest Sophia reincarnation, always female. There are usually six at a time, and appear in the same race as the current Sophia reincarnation (so in this case they appear human). They hold great power, only surpassed by the Sophia reincarnation herself. This is not only to protect Sophia, that is also because tutelaries serve as decoys and pretend to be the actual reincarnation to draw off assassination attempts.
