Pottermore: The Magical Quill

I don't know how many of you have heard about the site, Pottermore. It's supposed to be a companion to the Harry Potter books, created by JK Rowling herself. You create an account and live out the story. You get sorted, and can chat with other members. Other than that I know very little.

The website opens to the public in October, but there is currently an early registration contest being held. Each day, from now until August 6th, a clue is posted pertaining to one of the books. Solve the clue, and find the quill, and you can register. One million registrants will be accepted for early entry into the site.

How many of you are doing/have done this?

I got my account last night. I tried camping for day 2 but I was way to sleepy from work. I prepped myself all day to be awake for day 3 and it was THRILLING when the clue went up. The rush of finding the answer then battling to figure out how to activate the quill. Then that feeling of success when you get the message that your name is on the Magic persons list. Then getting that validation e-mail. T-H-R-I-L-L-I-N-G for a potter freak.

Now this registration is only that at the moment. The beta site is NOT open yet and they have not said when it will open up. They are going to be letting people in a little at time to test out the servers but if you are in the early access 1,000,000 you are promised to see the site before October 1st. That COULD mean though that you'll see the site on September 30th. My theory is Day 1 people will get in first, then Day 2, Day 3, etc.

Some important things for people that are gonna try getting in...
-1- You do NOT get to pick out your screen name. You are randomly given 5 screen names to pick from and you can have only one of those. I got lucky and had two good choices to pick from but others I know ended up with kind of awkward names.
-2- The registration window is a short one when the clue does go up. The more people online solving the clue, the less time you have to get a spot. One day the window was 15 minutes I think while last night the window lasted almost a half an hour.
-3- Register as FAST as you can without messing something up, because even if you find the quill you need to get all the way through the registration to secure the account. People last night lost their chance in the middle of filling out their registration form.
-4- Check the official Pottermore blog daily cus they will give out the time frame the next clue will go up in. They do not give the exact time. Like they said today that Day 4's clue will be breaking the pattern set by the first three days so far. It will be up between 2.00pm and 6.00pm BST which translates to 9am-1pm EST for Americans to understand. This is going to be a HARD time window for people cus it's at a far more convent time for both the British AND Americans alike. I assume the place will be swamped.
-5- All the hints are related to a number. The answer will be a number you then need to multiply by a number you are given and that will lead you to the page where you can find the quill.

I didn't mention this, but I actually managed to get an account on Day 1. You managed to explain the concept better than I did, though, so thank you!

And everyone should read your rules/guidelines/suggestions/hints/things (for lack of a better description). They're pretty accurate.

I have yet to get my own, but a friend of mine in class has four accounts. 2 for him and 2 for his girlfriend. O_O

Those kinds of people are starting to annoy me. -Unpopular opinion- I think that taking up multiple accounts takes away the opportunity of experience from the other Harry Potter fans that want to participate in Pottermore. It seems kind of unfair to me. And it makes the Beta testing procedure somewhat biased because then there's not an equal expanse of people testing.

I will admit, I have a spare, but I have no intention to use it for myself. I have three friends that keep trying to register but keep missing it due to their work schdules. I've been helping them as best as I can to like time it right and in fact I am gonna camp on Saturday for them if I have to, but if at least one of them is left in the end without an account, I am going to give it to one of them. If they all get in, then I am planning on deleting the account. What is the point of having two accounts really? You'll just have to do everything twice.

Oh, an update, he now (probably) owns like, 60-70 accounts. I think he set up a bot to just keep registering using his hundreds of emails. XD
