    and my re-edited version.

My cover for Rapunzel in "I See The Light" from Disneys newest Animated Classic "Tangled". This movie is now fighting for first with Beauty and the beast for my disney favorite. xD
I was able to do this with the help of firsttenor76, or Joel Pascual, who had posted his male cover version for Flynn earlier on YouTube. Thank you Joel!

Please comment and critique! Anything will help!

I LOVE this song! I'm currently working on a duet for it too haha. So let's start with the good. Your voice is beautiful! It definitely has that Disney Princess tone - very pure, delicate, and pretty. You were in tune for the majority of the song and I you can definitely hold your own on harmonies. You have the singing down, the main thing that needs work is your mixing. I'm only going to talk about your vocals because I'm assuming Joel mixed his own vocals in.

First of all, for the whole first part of the song where it was only you singing, your voice was too loud compared to the background track. I know it's tempting to make your voice stand out by turning up the volume, but when it's drowning out the background music people will actually be distracted at the glaring difference. This will in turn achieve the exact opposite of your goal of showcasing your voice in the first place. The music should be there to enhance your vocals, not hide behind it. You don't see the lead singer of a band performing 50 feet in front of their band do you?

Another thing that will help blend your voice into the music is reverb. I'm not sure which program you use to mix but even the most basic program like Audacity has options to add that slight echo to your voice that smooths everything out. If you did use some, it was too little and don't be too afraid to use more. Of course, balance is key and it takes some practice with mixing to get the right level of reverb or else it could sound too echoy and then be distracting.

One last thing you need to watch out for is your timing. When you sing solo, it's acceptable to play with the timing and do a little improvisation to make the song "your own". However, when you are singing a duet, it is vital that you are in sync with your singing partner. When you sing a word even just a fraction of a second slower than your duet partner, it becomes distracting and takes the listener away from what they should be focusing on - your vocals. It might take a few takes but the hard work is worth it in the end when you and your partner are in perfect harmony! This is especially easier if you are singing to a pre-recorded track.

I don't want to come off as too hard on you, I only went into so much detail because you have SO MUCH potential! You have the most important part of singing covers down, the singing! No amount of mixing can truly save a terrible vocal performance so if you can already sing AND mix well, you'll be amazing! Keep on singing, the only way to get better at mixing is by mixing more songs so you know how to work with your voice. Great job again!

You have such a beautiful voice! But it doesn't sound like you and Joel fit just right together. But it is two different recordings.

THANK YOU! <3 I had a feeling my vocals were too loud, but i didnt know. xD reverb wise, idk how to do that. xD i tried learning from you tube, but all the ones using audacity like me, turned the vocals into an echoy mess! any help you have there would be awesome. I plan on re-recording the last duet part for sure. I was gonna use the original flynn singing voice and recorded with him. but when i found joels version, i decided to use that instead. a pretty bad call mixing wise, really. i'll re-record that sometime today or tomorrow and get that fixed. thank you so much for all your help! <3
