"Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai" Ep 10 spin-off where otaku-hater proto-Loli Kanako Kurusu reluctantly cosplays as magical girl Meruru "only for idol resume building" but winds up as mystery crimefighter Meruru in real life -- who also unwittingly steps on the toes of powerful sinister forces as bad and freaky as any dark witch her anime namesake would ever face! Can a non-magic magical girl play the Batman game??

    STARDUST AVENGER MERURU
A Visual Novel of off-the-wall adventure

I NEED AN OLDER MALE AND FEMALE VOICE TO FILL IN MIA VAs ON WORK IN PROGRESS. TEST LINES SENT THOSE INTERESTED VIA EMAIL.

This project is intended for a YouTube slide-show of custom "manga" graphics and will double as a podcast. Animators and artists are encouraged to issue their interest in this project. This video novel is also a training project to eventually bring manga to the blind.

Deadline date: Sept 18th 2011. Production period: summer 2011.

Three hour production. All contestants can vie for multiple roles and submit diverse takes on each. I'll accept unlimited repeat submissions as long the intent is on polishing your voice. Brownie points to those who try to mimic their anime VAs or are at least familiar with them. I will critique on request and coach promising candidates.BE CREATIVE! LET'S SEE YOUR MANY FACES!! SEND IN MULTIPLE TAKES OF EACH LINE YOU DO!! DELIVER ME A FUN INTERESTING CHARACTER! The magic words in auditioning is emote, Emote, EMOTE! If one sounds like you're just blandly reading lines than personifying their characters you're reducing your scores. If you know someone who would be good in a role do send them to me! I intend this to be a fun project, and unlike one I have in hiatus, it's not a serial so won't prove a VA marathon.

If you're unfamiliar the series, a good character persona and voice sampling can be found in episodes 2, 4 and 10 at http://animeboy.org/anime.php?path=a...&id=1055&UID=N if you're into doing Meruru, try to also swing the "actual" Meruru's voice too though there's very little of it, since that's Kanako's alter ego voice as well. Of course you'll also be performing minor background characters so mastering a wide vocal range is beyond handy.

I'll accept multiple role submissions and infinite takes to hone one's rendition in the meanwhile. I'll coach any promising voice that needs a little polish. If you know anyone you believe might do well in these roles, please give me or them a heads up about this.

Test Lines: Recite the character lines under each character description. Promising voices will undergo wider testing.Any audio format can be submitted but it must be clear.

Send samples and questions to atomflower@me.com.
Sound file name format: CHARACTER NAME - # of Take - YOUR VAA NAME.SOUND TYPE (wav, mp4, etc)

    Cast

    Females:

Kanako Kurusu (from Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai)

A prissy and haughty diminitive 14-year-old who longs to become an "idol" and a model and ironically gets her first real break cosplaying pop anime magical girl "Meruru" -- a character that she hates like all anime and manga. She has a childish temperament to go with her "loli build" and demands praise from others -- when she absolutely melts, but otherwise has a fiery temper. Her conceit thaws by the feedback from helping others in distress -- and the surprise new thrill of escaping dangerous situations.

    KANAKO (chiding)

Saori, I'm not into this for the sick perverted cosplay! I'm in it for the rush of danger and for street justice and just plain old kicking butt!

Saori Makishima (from Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai)

A perky otaku who's really a bored refined aristocrat in disguise who deduces Meruru's identity and uses her wealth and resources to help support and coach Kanako in her addictive Meruru crime-fighting role. (Two voice samples, otaku and refined.)

    SAORI (pleased)
Every otaku dreams of creating a 3-D superhero that really works, and thanks to you, Kanako-kun, I finally have my wish!

    Miyi Kurusu

Kanako's mousy traditional but suppressed former feminist mom who secretly discovers but keeps mum about Kanako's Meruru secret.

    MIYI (concerned and demurely)
I know it's common sense, Kanako, but if you're coming home late after school, please don't prey -- er, short-cut through parks or alleyways anymore, alright?

    Tonda Kurusu

Kanako's gung-ho feminist big sister at college who wants to be a top reporter with "the biggest scoop in the world" -- like finding out who "vigiliante" Meruru is.

    TONDA (surprised)

Huh! That's quite a turn, little sister! Why are you suddenly so interested in making a detailed diary of my search for Meruru??

Kirino Kusaka (from Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai)

Kanako's overachieving friend and model and star of Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai.

    KIRINO (abashed)
Uh, er, of course not, Kanako! Why would I be interested in anything about an otaku goddess like this Meruru Meruru??

    Anti

A hyper and jealous top science student and cosplay contestant who feels upstaged by Meruru's popularity and styles herself as a Madoka dark witch to publicly defeat her by quietly tapping her father's defense lab products.

    ANTI (curtly)
Huh! If I didn't know just how much you totally loathe cosplaying Meruru even for money I'd suspect you of being this "avenging" bitch!

    Sergeant Shima

A perplexed local constable who feels honor-bound not to reveal Kanako's secret after Meruru unwittingly rescues her father from mob enforcers, even though exposing her would make her an instant detective rank.

    SHIMA (musing thought-over)
I don't want to see her hurt, but if she's going to do this anyway, maybe I could drop her tips of information from the department to help her along.

    "R"

A brilliant "geeky geisha" custom Otaku hardware creator who takes the kiddie stuff out of Meruru's outfit.

    "R" (deadpan serious)
I never kid about my work, Kanako-san!

    Males:

    Mako Kurusu

Kanako's mild-mannered inquistive ex-policeman dad and private detective who aims to see her married off to the son of a family friend as an old family debt.

    MAKO (fatherly stern)

Kanako, it's rapidly becoming such that all we Japanese have left to call truly Japanese is our ethos and honor, thus it behooves yours to honor your family's by becoming Ranma's bride to repay my father's war debt to his father.

    Kyon Kurusu

Kanako's gung-ho jock and police cadet big brother who becomes Saori's romantic interest and inside threat.

    KYON
Com'on, sis! Sure, your cosplay gigs make otakus wet their pants, but you can't imagine the satisfaction and joy it is helping people in trouble and taking down slimey characters that'd make you cower 'neath your futon!

    Police Chief Tanaka

Gruff no-nonsense law officer out to crack down on "vigilante" Meruru, who finds it difficult to get his force so motivated since Meruru's first adventure saved the lives of several cops.

    TANAKA (gruffly)
I'm four-square behind my supreme boss -- the mayor -- that this "Meruru" is just a dangerous daredevil and a worst bad reckless influence on kids than even manga!

    Commissioner Osaka

Saori's uppity-crust family friend and suitor who unwittingly leaks her police case progress reports to crimes for Kanako to tackle.

    OSAKA (elderly upper-crust suitor)
Really, Saori! I'm most flattered by your attention, but are you more intrigued by my most minute and mundane administrations in the department or by the exploits of this otaku Robin Hood?

    Soto

A weaselly and sniveling peeping-Tom block watcher and lolicon who suspects Kanako leads a double-life.

    SOTO
Eh-Eh-Eh! Oh, I'm sure the media -- and all those crime bosses -- would pay handsomely to learn that the city's new midget heroine is really a stuck-up spoiled brat!

    Mr. C

A mysterious Capone-style crime boss whose operations and grand global plans are being interfered by Meruru's activities.

MR. C (perferred ominous Edward G. Robinson hoodlum type)

This busy-body broad's crashed too many parties. I think it's time to set an example and extend her a dark invitation of my own.

    Master Po

Polite and sage elderly dojo owner and Kanako's self-defense instructor who reveals to her Meruru side that he secretly presides a ninja arts preservation society.

    MASTER PO (elderly sage)
It takes years of deep mediation and diligence to reach a state where mind and body are as finely honed and formidable as a katana blade. However, passions receive a cram course.

Kyusuke Kusaka (from Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai)

Kirino's big brother whose thing for Ayase detours with a slow burn crush on Kanako's changing nicer personality.

    KYOSUKE
Yes, I love my cute foxy little sister! You got a problem with that?

    Zi-san

An internationally renown sauve and sly magician and escape artist and Saori's friend who teaches Kanako neat tricks to use as Meruru.

    ZI-SAN
Of course you'll have to learn the trapeze! You're going to need to learn a lot more than just plucking rabbits out of a hat to pull yourself out of a jam -- or trap.

    NARRATOR

    NARRATOR
Dear listener! Stardust Avenger is a new detour of episode eleven of Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai. We begin at the very close of episode ten where petite and pouty Kanako Kurusu sits fuming in back of a Akihabara police car...

Other minor one-line background characters on notice.

    All contestants, Break a leg!

    Requested heads-up.

This project will be released as a standlone radiocast as well as a video novel. The dialogue track will be the same. You don't have to submit duplicate samples to my e-mail!

    Thanks!

Sounds interesting, but are there specific lines to record for each character? I'm not sure what I should submit.

Thanks to mentions as yours about my failed new test lines procedure I just now inserted first draft character lines (two months old) in the audition page beneath each role. Also thanks for the comment. I intend this to be a fun project with an off-the-wall premise.

    Because You All Asked:

Yes, I originally intended to do a straight "Stardust Witch Meruru" treatment based on all the visuals in Oreimo, but weaving a story that might still have Meruru material inserted a second season put that idea on the back burner. It'd be nice to've seen whether they created a full Meruru sub-plot to outake into Oreimo, but I don't imagine them relinquishing that anytime soon. This "re-imagining" will try to be as outlandish and dramatic while credible as possible in the Oreimo universe though.

To all VA candidates, break a leg!
