Wow I do believe that this podcast was really cool to listen to. It is great to see that people in the community care enough to see this community become more activity and help each other out is pretty cool. I've been part of the VAA for like a year now and to this day I am a lurker I randomly audition for some things and for the most part don't really add anything to this community minus my voice once and a awhile, but after hearing this I really wanna try and help out the community a lot more than what I've been doing. So I'll try and get a banner in for the contest for fun!

On a side-note what do you guys use for recording this?

GENERIC ANIME PICTURES! I know right?!

Also I'm a BIG BIG fan of original works and they are by FAR my favourite to be a part of. So thank you guys for bringing out some good ones. I'm definitely going to give a listen to the shows you suggest. =)

Extremely good advice with the demo, made me think I should probably remake mine as it is two years old.

Good luck with the banner contest, I would definitely try if I could draw or do anything... :/

I will try to suggest some productions that I'm a fan of and know are good productions at some point. Other than that, this was extremely well done, good job guys. We are definitely going to be a great community. I also think that advertising auditions might be a good thing too, if there is a production that has a lot of potential it might be nice to give a shout out to that.

I'm not nearly as active in these forums as I should be, but I still enjoyed this podcast--good work. It's motivated me a bit to go out and look for something to audition for. An original work, preferably.

    Looking forward to episode 2.

    Twas a joke. =p Though in all seriousness, 30 to 50 sounds flippping insane. I usually average in 15-20 and find it simply perfect. 0_o;;

Pfft, I remember getting around 50 auditions! And trust me, you really do need it. Especially if one sex is out numbering the other. And even more so when it comes to larger casts.

When I did Dies Irae, I was able to take some of the extra auditions and use them to cast people for future roles. So having those extra number of auditioners insured 1) I found the perfect voice for that character (it's hard to work with a person if you do not find them perfect for the role. THey don't need to BE perfect, but closer along the lines of what you imagined) and 2) plenty of VA's for future episodes when newer characters were created. And keeping their voices in your head allowed you to remember them when you create or write for a new character.

Though, over all point is this: any given project could have 30-50 INTERESTED and DEVOTED voice actors. This helped us actually grow as a community and even more so; as an individual. Now a days, you have no feed back, no critique, no interest; or anything! It often feels as though unless you are doing a fan-project, that you are ALONE on this board. Seriously, I sometimes wonder if "I" am invisible. But there was a great time for original works where you truly felt like you were part of a community; one that was as dedicated to helping YOU grow as you were to helping OTHERS grow.

Plus, that support from so many people being interested; would usually come back around for when the project was put up. Even those who didn't get a part, were interested in it enough, to make sure to give you their feedback and support. Something you hardly see even from your cast members now a days...

However, I have been wanting to bring this aspect of the VAA back as well. I have been preaching it for a while, even if no one would listen; and even if even MORE would argue it. But to anyone who is willing to attempt the feat, I commend you and offer my aid in anyway I can be of assistance!

I think original works needs to be a mandatory listen period for newbies! Because they all get swept up in fanworks and 'popular' people. So then they start following all the popular people around and seem to lose all interest in anything original. *sigh*

But really; I wish there WERE more mandatory things for newbies that could really rejuvenate interest within original productions; y'know, before they go all gun-hoe over all the popular people *dies* it keeps happening!! But I have noticed a small transition recently towards more original works. A few people I have even welcomed have been directed over here slightly, meaning it may not be helping tons, but promoting original works within a welcoming message does strike a small point to some people! Gotta go do that now, in fact... I keep getting swept up in the millions of things I Have to do!!

Anyway. Yeah, help out a bit more here yo! I am trying to do my part, haha. With the time I can muster! Just wish I was in a place to do even more~ but I don't think enough people like me or something to give me that oppotunity, hahaha. Maybe too straight forward... *shifty eyes* but I am sure if we can get enough support, we can all make a difference. And hopefully once I get a new mic I can help with the podcast some... even though I hate my voice with a passion...!! Others may like it, but when I hear it, I think I sound like an idiot!!

Popular people? I thought they all died

I don't know though, I still think it's better to just let people do what they want to do rather than trying to push them towards something.

Obviously we can't force anyone to do anything, but it would be cool if an introductory email was sent to all newbies with suggestions on certain things to listen/read.

I think what he means is to present new people with the original works to show them there is high quality stuff out there that can be extremely beneficial to them. Instead of people coming in and getting high on an idea of "I JUST WANNA BE AN ANIME STAR AND PLAY A CHARACTER THAT ALREADY HAS AN ACTOR". There's been negative, naive things said about original productions. Specifically saying they're no good and the quality is bad because people are amateurs.

Nothing wrong with fan works, and you should never forcefully push someone to something. But he more means open the windows to it. Original works gives people a little more freedom and room to express themselves and develop as an actor while fan works are just that, they're fan works. No matter what, you'll always be trying to mimic what's been done, even if you say you're not, you're influenced from what you've already seen and heard from a character. A friend once told me something he heard from a professional VA he met.

"If you say you want to be a voice actor in anime, then you're not a voice actor. You're just a fan."

Nothing wrong with that if that's all you want to do, but for those who want to expand their skillset, I think they should be introduced to original productions. In the end it's up to them. But we need to make original projects more present and active. Especially since there are people who think they're not of good quality.
