Hello you talented voice actors and actresses!

Some of you may remember me...others may not. I’ve been absent for a while but it’s because I’ve been writing a lot. Mostly my own original screenplays and whatnot...but I've decided to revisit my favorite world once again....the world of Metal Gear Solid! I love these characters and I love this story. It makes it very hard not visit and immerse myself.

I’m doing another audio drama based off a MGS story I wrote about two years ago that takes place post GotP (Guns of the Patriots). It’s called “Adjustment Periods” and it's a coming-of-age story about Otacon told through the audio journals he’s recorded. It’s very different from the first audio drama I did, Metal Gear Solid: Cracks in the Armor (which can find here: http://cracksinthearmor.backroominterviews.net) and considerably shorter. It’s also pretty plotless just like most coming-of-age tales are so no explosions.

NOTES:

It’s going to become painfully obvious as you guys read on so I’ll say it here: since this is post-MGS4, Snake does eventually die in the play. Lots of Otacon tears!

I know the audition material reads a little funky (like it’s jumping in and out of Otacon’s perspective--it kinda is) but it’ll all make sense once it’s done. I promise!

The roles of Solid Snake and Otacon already belong to Kamran “BiggieK” Nikhad and Sean “Sonicmega” Chiplock, respectively. They were Snake and Otacon in CITA and they’re too amazing to not bring back. In fact, I told Sean the only way I’d do this play is if he liked the script.

OPEN ROLES

Chloe Russell
Female
24-years-old
Range: Medium
Role: A few scenes.

Chloe’s the young, curious and very big hearted college student that Otacon has a crush on. She works in the coffee shop that he goes into and has a nature to her that makes it very easy for him to confide in her. In the story, she’s black...but she shouldn’t be stereotypical black meaning don’t “urban up” the auditions sent in for her. The only time it’s ever hinted at is Otacon’s description of her.

Lines:

OTACON
When I walked in, Chloe was sitting
on one of the sofas with a text
book in front of her. When she
looked up and saw me, she smiled.

CHLOE
Hal, right?

OTACON
Uh...yeah...

CHLOE
Are you surprised I know your name?

OTACON
A little. I can’t remember you ever
asking me for it.

CHLOE
I didn’t. I looked at your driver’s
license when you were paying for
your order one day. It’s a habit.
I’m sorry.

OTACON
No, it’s okay. That’s pretty
clever.

CHLOE
Thanks. Most people wouldn’t think
so. I’m Chloe, by the way.

Rosemary (Raiden’s wife)
Female
Late 20s
Range: Medium
Role: One scene.

Rose is actually talked about more than she talks. But, she’s a smart, professional psychological counsouler who’s concerned about Hal’s well-being. Her part is so minimum that her entire role are the audition lines. Whomever’s cast as Rose may not need to re-record them depending on the reading.

Lines:

OTACON
I finally called Rose and
asked her to write me a
prescription for something to help
me sleep.

ROSE
Well, Hal, I can’t actually write
you anything. I’m not licensed to.
I know someone who could but...

OTACON
But what?

ROSE
The last time I saw you was at the
burial and you looked completely
out of it.
(sincerely but hesitantly)
I really want to help you out but I
don’t want you to use them to...

OTACON
(interrupting; getting it)
Rose. Dave owned at least forty
different kinds of guns and
countless knives. If I were ever
going to sank that low, I wouldn’t
need sleeping pills.

Sunny Gurlukovich
8 years old
Range: High
Role: About four scenes.

The sweet, innocent, doe-eyed, daughter of Olga that Otacon takes care of. She’s present or mentioned in almost every scene but only has lines in about four of them. Even so, it’s important that the VA cast for her reads through the entire script and not just the scenes they’re in!

***No “stuttering” Sunny auditions, please. By the time MGS4 ends, her impediment is gone.***

Lines:

OTACON
After the session was over, she
just looked at him [Dave]. I couldn’t tell
what she was thinking but luckily I
didn’t have to wait too long to
find out...

SUNNY
How many people have you killed?

OTACON
I wanted to say something to her
but I had suddenly forgotten how to
speak. Of course he didn’t seem
fazed at all by the question but I
didn’t think he was going to answer
it either.

SNAKE
A lot, Sunny.

SUNNY
Did you like doing it?

SNAKE
(beat)
Sometimes. Sometimes I didn’t.
Either way, it still makes me a
monster.

SUNNY
But you’re a hero! You only killed
the bad guys, right?

SNAKE
It wasn’t always that simple.

SUNNY
Oh...
(beat)
I still don’t think you’re a
monster, Dave.

All audition files should be sent in mp3 format to andikith@gmail.com! Since it’s just the audition, bit rate and channel preferences don’t really matter. Just make sure I can hear you nicely, crisply, and clearly!

Please make the subject line: “Adjustment Periods: [Charactername] Audition”

I prefer a straight run through of all the lines on one file but if you need to split them up for whatever reason, just make you label them accordingly. Oh, and I love multiple takes of a line. Just sayin’...

Zip them if they get a little big!

The project, once it’s completed, will be available for download on iTunes. This is going to be a labor of love so I can’t pay you anything...but I promise it’ll be something you can be proud of.
