Hello you talented voice actors and actresses!
Some of you may remember me...others may not. Iíve been absent for a while but itís because Iíve been writing a lot. Mostly my own original screenplays and whatnot...but I've decided to revisit my favorite world once again....the world of Metal Gear Solid! I love these characters and I love this story. It makes it very hard not visit and immerse myself.
Iím doing another audio drama based off a MGS story I wrote about two years ago that takes place post GotP (Guns of the Patriots). Itís called ďAdjustment PeriodsĒ and it's a coming-of-age story about Otacon told through the audio journals heís recorded. Itís very different from the first audio drama I did, Metal Gear Solid: Cracks in the Armor (which can find here: http://cracksinthearmor.backroominterviews.net) and considerably shorter. Itís also pretty plotless just like most coming-of-age tales are so no explosions.
Itís going to become painfully obvious as you guys read on so Iíll say it here: since this is post-MGS4, Snake does eventually die in the play. Lots of Otacon tears!
I know the audition material reads a little funky (like itís jumping in and out of Otaconís perspective--it kinda is) but itíll all make sense once itís done. I promise!
The roles of Solid Snake and Otacon already belong to Kamran ďBiggieKĒ Nikhad and Sean ďSonicmegaĒ Chiplock, respectively. They were Snake and Otacon in CITA and theyíre too amazing to not bring back. In fact, I told Sean the only way Iíd do this play is if he liked the script.
Role: A few scenes.
Chloeís the young, curious and very big hearted college student that Otacon has a crush on. She works in the coffee shop that he goes into and has a nature to her that makes it very easy for him to confide in her. In the story, sheís black...but she shouldnít be stereotypical black meaning donít ďurban upĒ the auditions sent in for her. The only time itís ever hinted at is Otaconís description of her.
When I walked in, Chloe was sitting
on one of the sofas with a text
book in front of her. When she
looked up and saw me, she smiled.
Are you surprised I know your name?
A little. I canít remember you ever
asking me for it.
I didnít. I looked at your driverís
license when you were paying for
your order one day. Itís a habit.
No, itís okay. Thatís pretty
Thanks. Most people wouldnít think
so. Iím Chloe, by the way.
Rosemary (Raidenís wife)
Role: One scene.
Rose is actually talked about more than she talks. But, sheís a smart, professional psychological counsouler whoís concerned about Halís well-being. Her part is so minimum that her entire role are the audition lines. Whomeverís cast as Rose may not need to re-record them depending on the reading.
I finally called Rose and
asked her to write me a
prescription for something to help
Well, Hal, I canít actually write
you anything. Iím not licensed to.
I know someone who could but...
The last time I saw you was at the
burial and you looked completely
out of it.
(sincerely but hesitantly)
I really want to help you out but I
donít want you to use them to...
(interrupting; getting it)
Rose. Dave owned at least forty
different kinds of guns and
countless knives. If I were ever
going to sank that low, I wouldnít
need sleeping pills.
8 years old
Role: About four scenes.
The sweet, innocent, doe-eyed, daughter of Olga that Otacon takes care of. Sheís present or mentioned in almost every scene but only has lines in about four of them. Even so, itís important that the VA cast for her reads through the entire script and not just the scenes theyíre in!
***No ďstutteringĒ Sunny auditions, please. By the time MGS4 ends, her impediment is gone.***
After the session was over, she
just looked at him [Dave]. I couldnít tell
what she was thinking but luckily I
didnít have to wait too long to
How many people have you killed?
I wanted to say something to her
but I had suddenly forgotten how to
speak. Of course he didnít seem
fazed at all by the question but I
didnít think he was going to answer
A lot, Sunny.
Did you like doing it?
Sometimes. Sometimes I didnít.
Either way, it still makes me a
But youíre a hero! You only killed
the bad guys, right?
It wasnít always that simple.
I still donít think youíre a
All audition files should be sent in mp3 format to email@example.com! Since itís just the audition, bit rate and channel preferences donít really matter. Just make sure I can hear you nicely, crisply, and clearly!
Please make the subject line: ďAdjustment Periods: [Charactername] AuditionĒ
I prefer a straight run through of all the lines on one file but if you need to split them up for whatever reason, just make you label them accordingly. Oh, and I love multiple takes of a line. Just sayiní...
Zip them if they get a little big!
The project, once itís completed, will be available for download on iTunes. This is going to be a labor of love so I canít pay you anything...but I promise itíll be something you can be proud of.
Canít wait to hear from you guys! Anything I forgot to add just ask me and Iíll answer it. Good luck, everyone.
AUDITION DEADLINE: MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2011 (Date subject to change)
