Alright, cosplayers. I need your help. I don't want my first Otakon to be lame and cosplay-less.
Even though she's in my signature, Eva from Wakfu is not my favorite character in the world; still, I have lots of ideas for the outfit and I think I can pull it off.
First off, the wig. Since they're really cheap I've been looking through periwig and the one that stuck out was this one; the color's a little hard to match, though, so just in case I'm also looking at these two. I figure with a clip (and maybe a couple hidden ones) I can figure out how to make the bangs work. Thing is, all I'm planning for the ponytail part is tons of gel/hairspray with some kind of extension... would I need some more support, like a wire or something? I was thinking of using a couple of these sample extensions (I know, I'm cheap) and clipping them to the crown of my head and using a short dowel rod I have lying around for support and maybe using the ends of a few strands from the wig to form the shorter parts of the ponytail.
The ears would be a lil tricky, but if I do it right these can be covered at the base by hair and might not look so awkward. Otherwise, maybe some makeup could help.
The dress would be pretty easy (or so I'm imagining it); just a large black t-shirt- probably men's- made into halter top #2 here, using either strips of a tan-colored shirt or beige pantyhose around a strip of the black t-shirt for the part that ties around the neck. (Because I have no talent, I'd probably cut a hole in the black shirt and thread the tied part through...) At the bottom, to make it flare out a bit I have a black skirt I can wear under it.
The thing that wraps around the hips would be made with foam according to this guide for shape, but might try for more solid colors (or even pantyhose if I'm obsessive in trying to match colors). Not sure yet how that circular yellow thing would work yet, though. In the back I'd like to pin it up a bit so the shirt isn't so baggy, which would be hidden by the wrapping thing.
The leggings could just be layered pantyhose, with the bottom layer a lighter color and the upper layer darker, with circles cut out at the top and colored tape to keep it stuck to the lower layer. (The excess would be used for the tied part of the shirt). The darker pantyhose would have the feet cut off, and although I originally intended for the lighter pantyhose to go around the shoes it might be a better idea to use similar-colored socks so they don't wear out as quick. The shoes would be my own (kinda look like these, I guess they don't sell what I have any more!) but only the shape really matters since they would be covered by something beige.
I have gloves of a similar color, but nothing near that shape. I guess more foam and some paint? For the bow I thought I would try the steps here and maybe some more foam and paint for details. May not even do the bow at all.
As for makeup, I figure the only outstanding thing would be freckles and blush. Thing is, I also wear glasses, so, uh, it'll be a slight interpretation. In fact, I could skip the whole 'wig' thing altogether since it won't be perfect anyway, but hey, I'm sure lots of people wouldn't mind seeing Eva in glasses since they don't really know who she is anyway.
On that note, people cosplay characters from obscure anime at Otakon, right? (If something really cool happens in Season 2, I might choose another character, but since I think this one could work I'll probably stick to it).
And also, in case I have to ditch it at the last minute (or if someone else wants to use it) and if it turns out nice I'll let someone else take it, just let me know!
Anyway, any advice would help-- especially for that hair!
