Since people continue to often ask about some of these things, and the old Resources thread is rather outdated but gets revived every so often, I went down the list and updated it with more recent information. Feel free to add on if you've got any other things to share. Since I think it fits the general part of this forum better I've posted it here (as I couldn't post in the other area at the time).

    Audio/Video Converters
-AllToAvi (free) xSPADEofHEART made a nice tutorial for it
-Freemake Video Converter is a great and easy to use video converter. It's compatible with tons of different video formats.
-Format Factory (free) Great for Video and Audio converting I made a tutorial on it.
-Handbrake is also a free video converter that utilizes the excellent x264 encoder. It's user friendly, but also contains a lot of advanced settings for experienced users.
-Lame Encoder: In the case you can't make MP3 files then GET THIS.
-Media.io: An online audio file converter
-MkvToMp4 is a muxer that can change your MKV's into MP4's without re-encoding. Bare in mind that the video you're trying to change has to be encoded in H.264. Also, in my experience this tool handles subtitles weirdly.
-Zamzar (free web-based app) A great MP3 Converter

    Music
-ArtistServer - Look for 'creative commons' and you'll be set. Not the greatest stuff, but hey, nobody starts out perfect.
-David Beard Music - Here you can get snippets of stuff this guy's composed (wanna hear some Africa?) Might want to stay away from Youtube with these, though.
    -Free Loops
-Honc - Free legal music downloads, has some great-sounding stuff, but they're bands so don't expect BGM.
    -Mfiles - Classical music.
-Mikseri.net - Don't know Finnish? Me neither. From what I can tell, it's pretty diverse, genre-wise.
-Mirsoft - Game music collection. They also have a great list of game music sites here, of which I plucked out a Commodore64 site and FFShrine.
    -Newgrounds Audio Portal
-Misantrof - Full of the lovely stylings of Norwegian anti-commercial screamo bands, origin of such unforgettable tunes as 'Violent Sign Language' and 'Daterape Bonanza'. (I'm sure this will be useful to someone, somewhere.)
-triple j - It seems they're mostly Australian, but hey, there's nothing wrong with that. Like other artists, they may not want you taking their songs without their permission, but at least they're offering to let you download them for free. Pretty catchy too. Again, they're bands, so only if you want vocals.

Freesound.org is pretty much where I get all my SFX. Definitely should be on the list.
It's all creative commons stuff so you won't get in trouble!

(... also, typo near the bottom for a certain social networking site...)

I got together some free music sites after I couldn't figure out how to preview FPM songs any more. I tried to select ones that you won't have to worry about being sued by (although there's a longer list of legal downloads here). As always, please remember to credit the artists, everyone.

Misantrof - Full of the lovely stylings of Norwegian anti-commercial screamo bands, origin of such unforgettable tunes as 'Violent Sign Language' and 'Daterape Bonanza'. (I'm sure this will be useful to someone, somewhere.)

    But seriously.
ArtistServer - Look for 'creative commons' and you'll be set. Not the greatest stuff, but hey, nobody starts out perfect.
David Beard Music - Here you can get snippets of stuff this guy's composed (wanna hear some Africa?) Might want to stay away from Youtube with these, though.
    Mfiles - Classical music.
Mirsoft - Game music collection. They also have a great list of game music sites here, of which I plucked out a Commodore64 site and FFShrine.
Honc - Free legal music downloads, has some great-sounding stuff, but they're bands so don't expect stuff without vocals.
    Ektoplazm - "psytrance"/electronic music.
Asian classical music - From all over Asia.
Revolution Sound Records - Okay, I don't speak French, but I know there's music here.
Kunst der Fuge - More classical music.

    Extra
Radio Sega - Can't get music from here, but you can listen to game music in your spare time.
khaliqovision's channel - This guy's got lots of tips for recording/editing while trying not to be too technical.

I think the Newgrounds Audio Portal would be another good music source. It has plenty of genres and a cornucopia of music in general, and there are simple rules to use it for free: Credit the artist, and if you're making something that will result in profit, talk with the artist first. And a rule about remixing their music. All in all, it's a nice library of royalty-free, (mostly) vocal-less music.

Actually Garageband can also be used as a video editor. It's great for mixing, despite not being able to edit the video itself (such as cropping, cutting out specific bits).
