This situation is beginning to become quite an issue in the anime world so I'd like to discuss this topic.

    Over Obsession to Anime.

I for one have seen this around where I live and honestly, it's gotten to the point where someone needs to say something.

When I say Obsession I don't mean those who go to conventions, cosplay from time to time, will make an anime reference here or there or give their opinion about a particular anime but I mean those who take it to the extreme.

I'm referring to the people who want to go to and live japan just because of it, people who literally starve themselves because all anime characters have a "FIT" body and they want to be like thier anime "IDOL".

The ones who "mimic" an anime person's personality traits and have thier household looking like the inside of a typical anime living room.
They naturally go to food stores that ave Japanese handwriting and eat japanese food thanks to anime.

    And the list goes on

I mean people who take it to those types of extremes. Although I like anime I have friends that like it too much.

I have a friend who happens to like anime too much to the point where she literally got"Ichigo" (from bleach) tattooed on the bottom portion of her neck.

She buys food she can't even pronounce just because it has anime people labeled on the cover, and even has a replica of his sword (I believe its called a zonpackto?) in her closet. She was even arrested for doing something she saw a female anime character do a passer by in an episode she saw. In my opinion it's one thing to like something, and completely different to be obsessed with it. To me she is obsessed with it.

How about you, discuss you experiences (if you have any) with the topic. Have you any experiences with people who are over obsessed. Or what is your definition of being obsessed with anime?

Anyone know a stronger term for "weeaboo"? Like "super-weeaboo" or something?

In all seriousness, it's their life, although that alone doesn't make it any less annoying. XP

We could complain about people like this for days on end, but like Inukai and Sh3rlock said, it's their own life, let them be the ones to control it, to me it just seems that their own lives are so boring and bland they use anime and japanese culture as something to cover up that void. But there are rare occasions' where one's own weak and fragile psychi start to make them believe that they are in fact an anime character, but what can you really do about it? Try to remove that joy they have in life cause you don't like it? Idk, just seems better to let sleeping dogs (or in this case Otakus) lie.

On another subject, I honestly don't think it's a bigger epidemic than as you see it, but that could be just be me

Honestly I find these terms to be very rude and offensive. They are over used an can really hurt people.

I agree though, there is too much. Sure I go to conventions and I cosplay and make references, etc. Sure I eat Japanese food, mostly though that is because (1) that's how I was brought up and (2) it's rather hard to find many other kinds of food that cater to being vegetarian.

And really there is nothing wrong with it. It's just another kind of obsession. I know tons of people who are obsessed with Boy-bands, or football. I think the real issue here is why are anime-obsessed-people frowned upon when these other obsessive people are not? That's the real problem.

I like how it's fine that the Japanese can do it, but them white folk can't. What you see in anime is just like what you see on TV here in the western world. Not all of it is true. ;D

Anyway, I think this thread is silly. Why is it your problem? Unless you are one and seeing other people who know more about about Japanese animation annoys you, you shouldn't really get upset over it. And if you do, I think it belongs more in a rant on LiveJournal than it does here--a site filled with a lot of people like that.

You know who I hate? People who have an Over-Obsession to not bathing. And I don't even have the sense of smell! I don't know how the rest of you deal with it!

Seriously, though, who cares? Unless it directly interferes with your life it's no big deal. [/saying the same thing that everybody else has said]

Okay... 1. When did this become about race? Obsession doesn't designate a race.

    2. I never said I was upset about anything, the last thing I said was that this is a discussion topic. Not a rant.

    3. The reason I brought this up as an anime obsession is because this is an anime-related forum. Of course there are other obsessions out there and appropriate sites for them.

    4. The OTHER reason I brought this up is because I wanted to know if others have had the same problems / experiences.

And if you think a thread is silly, do yourself a favor and don't comment, the last thing this forum needs is another troll.

    O SHYIT U MAD?

Just so you can learn to tell the difference, THIS is a troll post.

Ah, on topic. Right. Well, it's unusual to see someone acting like an anime character here in America because it's just the difference in culture. It's more normal in Japan to see people with an obsession for anime. It's erroneous to call the behavior of another culture "weird," though understandably it can be off-putting for someone to incorporate another cultural behavior in their day-to-day life. But hey, whatever makes them happy.

Excuse me? I don't see why you got so upset over my post. We're all allowed to have our own opinions.

    1. That was a side comment to amuse other people. Please don't take everything you read seriously.

    2. Okay, that's fine.

    3. This forum is actually not anime-related. Last time I checked, the forum was voice acting-related. Sure, people might share a common interest in anime, but the Voice Acting Alliance is not an anime discussion forum.

    4. I'm sure there are.

And because I think a thread is stupid does not mean that I am not a troll. I wasn't trolling your thread or intending to. I will not deny the fact that I do troll, but this definitely wasn't one of those times. Please don't get so offended at EVERYTHING because someone doesn't agree with you. Like I said before, everyone is open to their own opinions.

But if you're going to make a thread about obsessions, perhaps it would be best to open the topic to discussion rather than keeping it to one small group of people.

Back on topic, now. I would hate to see this thread get locked over silly misunderstandings.
