I couldn't sleep, last night. ^.^ So, I drew this:



I love the grace and beauty of Princess Hinoto, and the way she bows. Pretty. ^^ So, I wanted to get it down on paper. ^^

X/1999 is definitely one of the few mangas I read, so I was all-over-and-curious to see your rendition of the character when the thread popped up.

Each piece I see tells me you're getting better.
Your proportions still need work, buuut I think using the actual manga as a reference is what's slowing you down, since, technically, anime characters aren't. They still need definite body structure. Next time, try making your fanart more realistic, and this will give your anime drawings the edge it needs. Maybe draw circles and lines for starters, so you know everything's accurately positioned for the head, arms, and etc., then overlap these lines with even tinier circles and lines if necessary for elbows, fingers, and etc. (Btw, I know Hinoto's a dwarf, so it's probably hard for you to nail the proportions anyways, but I still felt it was necessary to mention in the critique.)

I also recommend a more realistic approach because I noticed your shading (which is quite nice, though it seemed a bit rushed - this was made when you had insomnia ;p). Don't be afraid to 'ruin the picture' go ahead and shade the whole thing. My eye is drawn to those spots that are quasi-shaded/inked. Balance it out a bit more so that Hinoto's hair is in contrast to the also extremely white background.

There's room enough to improve here, but nothing you can't pick up on. =D I look forward to seeing more of your work. AND DANGET, FIONA. Am I going to have to ship some computer paper up to Scotland or what!? I can still see those yucky notebook lines in your drawings. Really distracting. ioi

Wow, so Ben took a lot of words out of my mouth.

But I can also tell that you're getting better with each piece. I really like this--it's very beautiful! My only critique (since Ben explained a lot) would be that the hands are too small. Other than that, I like it a lot. Keep up the great work, Fi!
