Okay, I have only been doing voice acting for a few months and just as a side hobby. I love everything about this field....i know people think i am foolish for what i want to do...but I want to go pro. Only problem is I have no idea where to get started. If anyone has suggestions, please please let me know.

You're lucky you live in CA, not only are you exposed to VA opportunties, but just about any thing else entertainment, too.

I know there's more than one studio out there... ahh... names escape me at the moment. You should ask one of the many Cali-kids here.

I have just recently gone pro myself, and I have to tell you that it's very rewarding when you start working with people actually in the business, anime or otherwise. It's a lot of fun! However, it also takes a lot of work, and that work never really lets up.

As has been previously stated, you're more blessed than some in that you live in CA. That and New York are probably the two best places to be for voiceover. Find some auditions and have fun with it!

When you've decided whether or not you're really determined to make this your career, you'll have to invest some money. A big chunk of it will go into recording your demo, which is basically a recording of you reading different things in various styles. Usually you'll have a demo for each different type of reading - narration, commercials, characters and so on. The goal of the demo is to show potential employers what you're capable of. Once you have one made up really nice, get copies made at the recording studio and always keep some with you. That way, if the opportunity arises, you've got something to pass out!

Speaking of recording studios, you should find one close to you and develop a good relationship with them. Sometimes you can work out pricing deals that way, but in any case, you usually pay by the hour (another sometimes pricey investment). When you're recording, come prepared and ready to get to work. Be casual and confident when you're recording. Relax and act naturally (or as naturally as you can in anime), because a discerning ear is going to hear when you're straining, especially on the quality of microphone in a professional studio!

Beyond this, I can only say that you really have to stay determined. It took me a really long time and a lot of failed attempts before anyone would even look at me. You're also probably gonna want to consider other types of voiceover besides anime, which is really sort of a niche. The more you do, the more experience you have on your resume, and you find yourself with better odds of a producer considering you. Oh, and an agent can really help out with finding jobs for you, plus they can't take your cash unless they get you employment. That's how they earn their keep.

Hope my limited experience helps. Feel free to ask anything else.
