I just got my mic problems taken care of, and now I have a new problem hehe, sorry.

My problem is that when I record something it sounds wonderful and crystal clear (now that I've got my mic working properly!), but when I save the file and come back to it later the quality has really degraded. It's particularly noticeable with sibilants ('s' sounds).

Is this just the nature of the beast, as it were, or is there something I need to do to preserve the quality of my files?

I'm using Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and I'm saving the files as .mp3s

the bitrate is usually the issue when it comes to problems like these. when you export the file as an mp3 keep in mind that the bitrate (320, 192, etc.) determines how accurate the exported file is to the original WAV recording. higher bitrates mean larger filesizes and better quality levels.

Ok, thanks, I will definitely keep that in mind from now on. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle. The other half, I believe, is red and blue lasers.
