As I'm sure some of you are undoubtedly aware, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was denied its justly-deserved third season on the air. I am firmly of the belief that TSCC was amongst the greatest sci-fi television has ever had to offer, and was not only sad to see it go, but quite dismayed that so many story threads were left unresolved.
Imagine my delight when I came across CJ Carter's excellent The Connor Wars, a series of scripts written by him that serve as a 'virtual' season 3 for TSCC. The scripts are great, but a lot of people hate reading off the computer, or don't feel like they have the time, or whatever, and so I'm organizing an audio drama for the series. Just focusing on the first episode at the moment, but with serious hopes for doing all of the scripts, so this will be a very long-term project, as there will eventually be 22 episodes, each one standard 45-to-50 minute episode length. I also am very much looking for people that sound as close as humanly possible to their onscreen counterparts. I want this to sound as close as possible to actual episodes of the show. Another thing I would strongly suggest is watching the show if you haven't already (SHAME) before auditioning, as it isn't particularly long, and will give you a feel for the characters.
Please send your auditions to Mr_Domino0990@hotmail.com. Deadline for auditions is January 31, 2010. I hope to have the series done by April 21, 2011 (Judgment Day). Now, on to the characters (note that this is only characters appearing in the first episode - most are recurring).
MAIN - RECURRING CHARACTERS
John Connor
This is obviously a REALLY important part, and you have to be willing to read a lot for it. Also note that unless I find someone who can do it better than I can, I'll be voicing John myself, as he's just too important.
Lines:
"I've been running from one machine my whole life. It wants me dead. I've mostly just tried to stay alive. Sometimes I'm helped by men, sometimes by machines. Now...no more running. It's either me or Skynet. In the end, one of us will be dead." (Opening monologue)
(Referring to Cameron) "Do you know where she is? Her chip. John Henry. Any of it."
"You don't-- In '97, when I was thirteen, when I was really 13, Skynet sent a T-1000 after me, a prototype."
"My mom once told me about an ancient tribe who lived in two worlds. They farmed, but they also spent time preparing to war on their neighbors. Not always because they had to, but because it was who they were. They couldn't trust that their neighbors wouldn't do the same to them. They died out because they had no one to support them when their own survival depended on a trusted alliance." (Closing Monologue)
Allison Young (NOTE: Those who try out for Allison also need to be able to do Cameron later on in the series)
This is not the allison we saw in Season 2. This is future Allison, and she's lived a difficult life. She's very flirtatious, and uses her feminine wiles to get whatever she or the Resistance needs. She's also very frightened, though she keeps it hidden behind a tough-as-nails sheen.
"Of course. He's just a kid. I'll be fine. I'd rather be going out to watch the Rooters with you all."
"Who? Oh, yeah...Liam. He's fresh. Still thinks anyone he doesn't know is a machine."
"It doesn't work that way. I don't care who you are. You cross me, try to hurt us...I'll shoot you in the head. Simple as that."
Derek Reese
This Derek is also a somewhat different person than who we saw in the show. Where he comes from, he's the leader of a Resistance cell, and the Resistance is losing the war. He's had to make a lot of hard choices, and he lives with that every day.
Lines:
"I see them. OK people. You know the drill. Pair up to the A's."
"You three, go with Kyle over there. I'll take the rest and spread out over here. We'll get them in the crossfire."
"Ali... I have to take Kyle to the medic. After you tend to the dogs, find me. We'll talk."
"Yeah. Well. We aren't men anymore."
Catherine Weaver (T-1001)
Same old weaver. Those without a very good scottish accent need not bother even applying. I realize how hard it's going to be to find a good Shirley Manson impersonation, but I want as good as possible.
Lines:
"Yes. From the past it knows that you exist, and it's likely that you are still programmed into all robots. Even if it doesn't know why, Skynet will keep its own code in place. (beat) I'm hopeful we can meet out in the open soon."
"In the end, it's always about you and Skynet."
"This rival comes to think it more advantageous to coexist with humans. We don't want to live under Skynet rule any more than you do."
Kyle Reese
Kyle is much the way he's always been. A soldier through and through, but a very kind, innocent, and therefore vulnerable soul.
Lines:
"Got 'em. Cherry tree two-zero, Saturn four-three-zero."
"Metal!"
"Yeah. Kevlar kept it from going through. Busted up a rib pretty good."
Sarah Connor
For one of the episodes, Sarah applicants will also need to be able to do an older, dying Sarah, just FYI.
Lines:
"It's nothing. Won't even leave a scar.
(Speaking to Savannah) "That's good. Math was--T-ball. I remember. We'll take the car."
"What fun. I've got to go. I'm probably not going to be back until morning."
"Maybe. I have to stake out a new position. Call me if you have anything new."
James Ellison
Much more important than the exact vocal sound for Ellison is his vocal style. Please, please, PLEASE study the way in which Richard T. Jones delivers his lines for this role, as its really quite unique, and essential to the character.
Lines:
"The plane is flight 1342. It's scheduled to taxi to a hanger on the north side of runway 8. The closest access road is Atlanta Way."
"According to the description I found, it's harder and tougher than any other known substance, and its faces are all but frictionless."
"I've looked at the materials you copied. This is what we're looking for."
Savannah Weaver
There's enough people here who can do child voices that I doubt Savannah will be too much of a problem. She's just a little bit older and a bit wiser as to what's going on around her now, but she's still the same incurably cute little girl she's always been.
Lines:
"Aunt Sarah -beat, a bit more insistent- Aunt Sarah"
"Fine. I got an A in math."
"Yeah..."
Matt Murch
Eh. You know the drill with this guy. He shouldn't be too difficult.
Lines:
"Ms Connor."
"We're adding sensors to a car so that John Henry can tell when it bumps into something."
MINOR/NONRECURRING CHARACTERS
Sykes - Female Resistance soldier. 30-ish, although she looks and feels closer to 50. More or less an average grunt, with the distinction of being friends with Allison. She'll lurk around in the background for a number of episodes.
Lines:
"One of these days, Ali..."
"There's something wrong in that head of yours."
Dwayne - Male Resistance Fighter (25). One of a pair of radio operators at Derek's Resistance camp.
Lines:
"I hear you, Dipper. Two hawks in-bound. Sandy, you got a fix on the rooters?"
"Hold, comm. Repeat, hold comm."
Tiffany - Female Resistance Fighter (50s). The other radio operator at Derek's Resistance camp.
Lines:
"Say again. Say again."
"Emma, go."
Moss - Leader of a gang of Rooters (Farmers/Foragers, for what its worth post-Judgment Day). Moss is going to cause some trouble for John in the second episode, then he'll drop out of the spotlight.
Lines:
"Not if you do your job. You protect us, we feed you. That's the deal."
"We couldn't make it to cover anyway. We might as well do our jobs."
Dimitri - Male Resistance Fighter (20s). A Dog Handler at the base.
Lines:
"I just checked there."
"How'd that get in here?"
ATC - Sarah listens in while he's directing traffic.
Lines:
"Cleared for descent to eight thousand. Global 1-3-4-2, turn left to 1-5-0."
"Global 1-3-4-2, roger. U-U-A 7-3-9er increase your altitude to ten-thousand."
Global 1342 - Sarah listens in on this guy too, because there's something on Global 1342 that Sarah wants.
Line:
"Burbank, Global 1-3-4-2, turning to 1-5-0."
...
