okay, so here is my problem: i'll be recording some lines or what have you in audacity, right ? then when i'm done recording, i hit stop like any other normal person and go to listen to the playback. when i do that, the playback is always a few pitches higher than what i recorded in ! and i don't know how to fix that ! i mean, i do fix it by going to the pitch but since my regular voice is in between two pitches, i never get the one that is my natural voice, if that makes any sense. how do i fix this problem so it just records in my natural voice ?

Unless there is something really strange about your microphone, Audacity will record the actual pitch you are using. It is more likely that your sense of your pitch (which you hear via your skull cavities) is wrong than that Audacity is recording somethign different.

To verify: if you have a musical instrument, try playing that into your mic and play it back. If it does indeed play back a different pitch, something is wrong with your setup; otherwise, you are probably just not used to the sound of your own voice.

Nope, I had this problem too. I found that restarting my PC fixed that problem though. It was odd, but if it's too big of a deal and reoccurs, you can just use the pitch function to change it by the smallest amount possible, or whatever range you need. For me, it was going about 5 semitones lower than my actual voice. I just set it from C to C#/Db. Fixed.

But seriously, restarting your PC should fix it. If that doesn't do it, uninstall and reinstall Audacity. Also, what version are you using?

Funny, everyone I know who uses Audacity is complaining recently. So I figure, why even bother? I got cool edit, and 2 forms of Adobe audition....only program I don't have, GoldWave. And each program works for what I need.
