  1. #1 Demo Reel 2009- Majia
(Third time typing this -kicks internet explorer)

All right! It's been over a year since I joined the VAA (was actually able to participate) and way past the time for me to post a new demo reel. A big thanks to everyone who've helped me throughout this time and a bigger thanks to Amyann because without her, I have on clue where all this background music would have came from. Please critique/comment, I really hope to improve and hopefully you guys will see I took into account the advice I recieved from the last demo reel!

this was a good demo reel, I liked the range of voices you had, and the music didnt overpower the voices, kudos!

The fifth music was from Kingdom Hearts. I know that much.

Other than that, I really liked the variety of voices you did. Awesme job!

Nice reel, but the first thing that struck me was you started with a lot of lines that sounded very similar, and for me the many calm/casual-energetic lines that occupied most of the demo dragged it down for me. Like, maybe move a couple of lines near the end to the middle? I also feel like a lot of voices were repeated and the second time they appeared they didn't present something new to me (like, you had energetic happy girl a few times, but used similar lines for the times the voice appeared, similar 'mystical' sounding lines for older woman, similar 'energetic' lines for the boys; if you're repeating a voice make sure there's a good reason for it, or your reel will sound repetitive; if there's even a drastically different emotion attached, no one will know about your repetition~ >D)
Listening to the reel again, many of the earliest voices are quite different...But...The deliveries are just so similar it hides that. ;~;'' So watch that, for me it initially sounded like your range wasn't nearly as good as I know it is.

You have a lot of strength in those sweet casual sounding lines, which you played up, but make sure you don't overplay it, or an ADD listener like me might get bored. Acting wise and mixing wise it was excellent; and I don't have much to say there other than, 'excellent job!' so I'm mainly focusing on your organization (I'm sorry this sounds like a wall of criticism, but your acting was fabulous~ So the monotonous organization is my focus).

Hmm...For me, what your demo needs is both the 'hook' line, and some spice in the middle. Try to make your hook something you're strong on, that will hook the listener in. I heard stronger voices in the middle of your demo that I think could've easily been used as the first one, and made a better first impression on me. Perhaps an energetic girl, or boy?

(The spice in the middle could really be anything, new and exciting to keep the energy flowing. A scream? Really anything...Music choice can help here too; if you apply some more upbeat music to a casual line it will change the feel of it. You had ALOT of Lucky Star music in here, which, although fun; sounds very similar...So this may have also contributed to the monotonous feeling?)

Overall, you sound really nice, majia! Your voice has a really nice unique quality to it~ On your next demo just make sure you mix it up, and add more of an array of emotions (and cut out duplicate voices), and I think it'll sound...(what's a level above excellent...><''' I hate the word fabulous, but...If I can't think of anything else, so be it!) ...It'll sound fabulous.
Great job, and I hope this helped! =3

Thank you so much Hatomi!! I'll be sure to take everything you wrote down into consideration. When i finished my reel, I also felt that it was missing or if anything really lacking, but now I can clearly see why, I really do need a hook and I should have changed the energy of the people I played, it would have made such a big difference. Thank you so much for your advice >.< it means so much hearing it from you! Thank you thank you thank you and i'll be sure to listen and fix this baby up!

You've improved so, SO much, majia!

I think you've pretty much nailed the sweet-sounding characters, and your lower, womanly voice really drew me in~. Like Hato said, for your next reel, try to add more different emotions and spice it up! I'd really love to see you do an insane, hyper, bouncing-off-the-walls girl in exchange for one of your sweet, casual voices. I don't really know what else to say.. other than you're amazing, and to keep going! You've worked hard for a year, and look where you are now!
