  1. #1 [videogame] Male Japanese-speaking VO Artist Needed
    Hello

Long shot this, but I'm looking for a male VO artist who can speak both Japanese and English with a Japanese accent to do some 'barks' for a videogame mod.

Initially, the lines are just short exclamations that are generated by computer-controlled soldiers during fight sequences, but I have plans for a more involved role to be finalised a little later on.

It's a hobby project, so I can only offer full prominence of credit and my undying gratitude in return but if anyone is interested please contact me at ian-AT-alwaysblack-DOT-com.

If anyone is interested in the rest of the project, it's being developed in public through the series of articles that start here: http://www.alwaysblack.com/blackjack/foolsrushin-1.html

    Thanks for your time.

If you don't mind a higher pitched male voice, i would love to audition. ^^

um... i have some audie clips on the page noted below:

Aw, I really think I need a male voice for this one. Here's the character:

...and I don't think a higher pitched voice will convey the right amount of menace.

I do have a cast of five female characters, although I haven't written any dialogue for them yet. I'd be happy to come back to you in a couple of weeks, if you're still interested?

Actually Aimi, I've been talking to a friend of mine who knows about audio manipulation and we want to try a few experiments. Would you mind sending me an email and I'll send you the lines?

I know I'm a girl but I have a Very low voice for a girl.^^ Here's two examples. Excuse the translations for the Japanese one, I was on the bus when I translated it. They're both lines from my RP and the guy is Japanese so he speaks to his brother in Japanese in one part: (They're different lines)

    Japanese line

    English line

....It might just be that all the Japanese speakers here are female...It wouldn't surprise me. I speak pretty well, but I'm squeaky, female and English, so no good.

That's OK, I've nothing against girls in principle.

The mod under development has a cast of at least five female speaking parts, hopefully quite extensive parts, but I haven't finished writing the script yet. If any ladies would like to send me email linking to their stuff then I'd love to get it.

Please bear in mind though, that these other parts are likely to involve quite a bit of work, the mod focusses on character interaction and the script is likely to be quite large so if anyone feels they might not be able to commit the time or energy for a non-paying role then it's probably better if we just wish each other luck

As someone who's been around the voice acting community for awhile I'd like to put in a few comments.

If you're thinking about making the voice deeper with an editing programme, then I hope you'll reconsider. These kind of programmes can deepen the voice, but they shouldn't be a substitute for male voice actors (as much as I am an advocate for girls playing boy roles, there's a limit to what us girls can do realistically). In general guys sound different in ways other than voice depth alone... the way they talk and the way sound is produced in their throats is a bit different. Audio manipulation can't imitate this as far as I know.

Aside from the fact that your voice sounds more medium-low than "very deep" (sorry, but that's the truth), I unfortunately don't think your Japanese is good enough. You sound very choppy delivering that line, you're difficult to understand (I'm actually not sure what you're trying to say...) and you have absolutely no emotion.

Not true... I know Byron is fluent, and Mike can speak some. Whether they'd want to be part of this production or not is a different matter .

Well, I was saying I'm very low for a girl. Anyways, I need to work on it a bit. I can only say short sentences really good or when singing. I'd probably do better as a female because when I speak in Japanese, I have a high voice. It takes up alot of air if you have a high voice and you're making it as low as you can. I can speak in German in any pitch though.
