    Because I'm having a really hard time with it. XD

    I have no clue how to remove the background music from an anime and I wouldn't want it to sound all jarbled up.

    So that only leaves the option of finding original tracks that fit the mood. But it's hard when you don't want it to sound too commercial!

    Maybe I'm too picky?

    I find that it's always best to recreate the scenes from scratch. That means relocating the background music and sound effects from available resources (i.e: The OST's and sites that have free sfx for download)

    This way it sounds clean and professional as opposed to the sloppy sound of a vocal ripped audio. So...I'm not sure what you mean by 'too commercial"

    Erica : There's a particular background song in Kamisama Kazoku when Osamu (the father) is talking about how he heard his son wishing his school could keep bloomers.

    Kei: By "too commercial," I mean I don't want people to hear it and be too reminded of something completely different. For example, there's a really goofy scene and you want to put in carnival-like music in that scene BUT you don't want to put in clown-car music.

    Well, if you use music from Naruto, of course most people will know it's from there. That doesn't mean you can't use it. I know a bunch of fandubs that use Naruto OST's in a bunch of anime's they dub. Does anyone say anything? No, not really.

    Usually the comments on OSTs anyway are "Hey, good job using music that fits", "It's too quiet", "It's too loud", and "the music doesn't relate to the scene".

    Just use the OSTs, pop/rap/electronica/rock albums and songs, and loops you have to good effect and no one will really care that much where it came from. Just make sure it fits the scene and doesn't overpower the VAs and sound effects but at the same time not be so quiet so it can't lend power to the scene.

    For anime, finding OST's are really easy.

    There's actually a site where they have a wide variety of anime OST's that you can download. The original site is down, but they have a backup.

    But when it comes to cartoons, there usually aren't any OST's for cartoons, so I'll have to find some that fits either on newgrounds...or my new favorite, sounddogs. xD;;

    Doing a method what FMA suggests is really grey area. On one hand, that is undoubtedly illegal. On the other, you're just using it as BGM, you're not distributing it anywhere. At the same time, buying imported CDs is expensive and you have to make a grey area modification to your PC to play and rip the discs so you can use them.

    So, basically, you're tiptoeing one helluva line either way you do it.

    American/Western TV shows and movies frequently have OSTs released, such as LOST, Bourne Identity, Black Hawk Down, etc., those are options as well. Problem is that many film scores are too recognizible. However, I would recommend looking into the catalogs of Michael Giacchino and John Powell, I've always found their scores quite impressive.
