  1. #1 Best way to RP a fight?
    Hi,

As some of you might know, i am getting ready for my RP- One Spirit. =D
but I guess making my first RP is not as easy as i thought... so i had came across a question which i was wondering if anyone would like to answer it for me.

Which would be the best way to carry out the actions of a fight?

I mean, in specific, how exactly would audience perfer the RP to narrate the fighting sequences?
'Cause i can simply import the fighting sounds, but people would have no idea what is going on...

Right now, my solution is to use an intelligent characters to narrate the actions by "analyzing" it.

Do you think this is the best way?
If not, any opinions is greatly appreciated. THanks a thousand =D

I think the best way to "arrate" what is going on is to have someone who is fighting soliloquise (i.e. to think out loud) what is going on in a pretty dramatic way. If you do it any other way, it will sound like someone is commentating a sporting event.

Personally, I would choreograph with sounds what is happening in the fight and leave what is happening to the listeners imagination (because that's the magic of audio works). The trick is not to have it go on too long, or have the fighters speak/talk trash to each other as they fight a la dragonball z. ^^

Yeah, when I do fight scenes I usually just play some pretty kick butt music, import the sounds, try and get some attack cries and ows and stuff in there so you have a rough Idea who's winning and who's loosing and I leave the rest to the users imagination, I think it would get too frustrating to hear "And left left hook. I know, I'll grab this polle and hit him with it in the stomach..." etc.

    Thats juat me personally though.

The listener doesn't have to know EXACTLY how the fight looks, though. Basically what they need to hear is a) who's winning (which can be demonstrated by who screams in pain more XP), and b) any important plot points of the fight.

It's not a great idea to have a radio play that focuses on fighting either way though.

Part of the fun of producing radio plays is that you have to find creative ways of portraying situations-- any situation. I usually avoid a formal "Narrator" role in my projects all together, so in the situation of fight scenes, it's important to apply a simple goal that you should strive for in a fight sequence, or in any type of scene, and throughout your entire play: Create ambience.

Without style and ambience, you're pretty much left with, well, garbage. If you write your story with good pace and strong direction to keep everyone interested, as long as you put together a scene with strong, believable ambience, then a fight scene shouldn't be too difficult.

If your story is written well, the dialogue is fresh and what the listeners hear is realistic, then your audience should be able to put two-and-two together.

To be honest, and this is just from another producer's standpoint, physically mixing a fight is great fun. For me, it's first translating the fight into script-format and giving the necessary direction to my cast to record the right stuff that is the most difficult part.

    Good luck!

    Thanks crimson and Tom.

Tom especially, that's really helpful. and yeah lol, it's really fun mixing the fighitng scene, the trailer it is... I will keep that hints u gave me in mind, to create atmosphere.

I guess now i have to review on my fighting scenes again, to ensure they are leading the audiences directly. and take out some stupid dialogue that narrates the fight. =D
