  1. #1 I need some quick advice
Voice acting has been an exciting thing for me to do for a long time now. I have auditioned for a lot of projects, however I've been told that my voice isn't exactly made for voice acting and that I would most likely be more fit sticking to singing and live performances.

Personally, I love to perform- whether it be singing or acting or whatever. But ever since I was told this, I haven't been really enthused about sending in auditions for vocal or singing roles lately.

I was wondering what you guys do when you get in a rut about your voice. 'Cuz I wanna voice act, darn it! lol xD

I can't imagine what a voice that "isn't exactly made for voice acting" would sound like. Maybe you've just been auditioning for the wrong roles. If you can do live performances, your voice has to be reasonably decent. Have you been primarily auditioning for dubs? Maybe radioplays would suit you better; many dub producers are looking for VAs to match the voices of the original performers, and not everybody can do that.

When 17-year-old street racer Ash finds himself suddenly female, and Emily wakes up the day after receiving her Harvard acceptance letter to discover that she's a sophomore again, they have more than a few issues to deal with. And Rumisiel, now banished from Heaven, has to try to set things right. Come listen to the latest episode of:

May I suggest posting something to the Audition review thread? You might get better feedback there.

I don't think that there is such thing as a voice not made for VA. Anyones voice could be an anime character you just have to find the right one.

It also depends on the way you use your voice. You may have the most perfect voice, but if u can't act then the voice is no good. Accents are tricky too. Almost everyone on here wants American or Canadian accents for their dubs, so if it's the accent holding you back you may need to work on it.

What animes have you auditioned for?

Correction, xXxSkyyexXx - Anyone's voice could be a character for any sort of production, not just anime. Please understand that there is more to voice acting, and this forum, than anime fandubs. I strongly encourage everyone to try to branch out to things beyond anime-fandub-based productions.

That said, she has already answered that she's auditioned for various types of productions.

SilentOne - In addition to Russ' suggestion, it might also be a good idea to try to throw a couple of clips together, or record new ones, for a small demo to go into Shorts/Samplers.

Keep at it, darling - You'll get cast in something eventually; especially if you're always seeking to improve upon yourself.

I'm gonna rock your body 'til Canada Day.

Try to ask some other VAs to critique some clips, especially in the audition review thread (which has already been linked), that's definitely a good resource. Other people will hear something that you may not hear and they can try to point you in the right direction when it comes to your acting or your voice or delivery or whatever.

I don't know who is telling you that your voice isn't good for voice acting, that's just silly.

Another thing I suggest working one-on-one with someone to make a clip "just for fun"! For example, like what I did with fairuza, Kei, and others with the NANA clips! It's a bit of work, but I am pretty sure you'll enjoy the outcome! <3

(All of these suggestions are really great though! Thanks everyone for an awesome read!)

Couldn't have said it better myself.
You probably just need some practice. Individual and small group projects will help, even if you have to produce them yourself. Post 'em here on the VAA and ask for feedback. I know I'll comment on your work. :3
