Okay I don't know if this is the right place to put this but something happened to my mic. It is currently suffering from AIDS.

I was recording for some practice lines to put up examples of my voice in my profile and it was working great. Suddenly something happened when I was recording and the bars on the program didn't seem to pick up my voice. I poked at the mic a bit and they seemed ok but when I played back the mic instead of great, awesometastic quality, all I got was quiet sound with loads of blurrs and fuzzess, and that's not regular for my mic because my mic was better than that! Is my mic broken? I haven't used it that much. This sucks! Now I think I gotta buy a new one!

EDIT: Crap! Can this topic be moved somewhere? Sorry...

I don't have the power to move the topic, but I will try and help you troubleshoot your mic.

First off What kind of mic do you have? Is it a regular desktop mic? A headset? A Professional Mic? etc etc.

Of course two things you can do regardless of your mic is Check the connections (Make sure the plug into the computer didn't come loose), Check your Recording Volume Properties (the little Speaker in your System Tray, click on it, then click Options -> Properties -> Recording -> Ok and make sure that the internal Mic volume didn't get messed up (sometimes certain programs effect this for no *real* reason). And lastly, there is always rebooting the computer.

Any troubleshooting more advanced than that I'll need to know about your setup.

I use a Laser headset mic. I like using headset mics. Thanks for your help though. I'll try to do the stuff that you said.

If you have checked all the connection points, like Batgirl suggested and its not working the chances are, it may just have died on you. I used to use headset mics until a few months ago when I bought a studio condensor! Mine were forever dying on me, no matter how expensive they were. Sometimes, the cables just dont last the pace. I had to take 3 back in 2 months. My reccomendation for you, is although you love headset mics ( I used to too ^^!) maybe a desktop mic would be better. Im reccomending a USB one !

Im still hoping your mic isnt broken but its always best to take precautions! Good luck!
