Why you should audition:
- Project will see completion.
- Project will be well done.
- Project will be nice for your resume.
- Characters are far more than interesting.
- Characters will help improve your voice acting.
- Everyone who auditions will recieve a part.
- I'm flexible and understanding to deal with.
- People will love you. Including me.
Why you should NOT audition:
- Characters are challenging and will require serious and devoted actors.
- Video is live-action and requires effort to lip-sync.
- I set deadlines and hold cast in enough esteem to respect them.
- Quality is important, so microphone issues should be minimal.
- Quality is important, so I may ask for redos.
- It's required that you download and play high-quality WMV videos to sync your lines.
Brashness aside, I want to let you know that this project is something that has the potential to be extremely fun for all those involved. It's a very entertaining show thanks to the characters. The drama doesn't need a dub, and I'm only doing it because it's a
fun project that will push the voice actors to do well, and it will ultimately show in a nice finished episode to exhibit your work. At this time, future episodes are not scheduled. This is a pilot project to see how it goes. If this goes fantastic, you can expect more episodes or scenes to be done.
Also, to warn fans of the original show, I am dubbing a truncated version of the episode. This means I have cut out sequences that either A) could only make sense in Japanese, or B) were way too long for the point they were making. But I am not suggesting that the show is better off without them! Please watch the originals if you enjoy these versions.

Shuji Kiritani
Male / Student Extraordinaire: He is the most popular guy in school, though only by his personal choice to be so. He views life as a game and plays it willingly, hiding his true aspirations so that he can manage through the hell called school.
Voice: Medium-Low to Medium-High, Mature/Outgoing
Voice Actor: Casual and outgoing, with random spouts of hysteria. He is a two-sided coin in that he plays the popular kind in school, but secretly finds his peers distastful and boring. You will be the narrator of the story, and thus have the most to record, but it will be fun -- I promise you. Half of his lines are friendly and upbeat (because that's what cool kids sound like) and the other half are cynical (because he has better things to do than be your friend). He's the main character with a viturally variable voice.
Shuji (Narration): I gotta act cool around everyone and make everyone happy to keep my popularity. I am, after all, "Shuji: Student Extraordinaire;" friendly, helpful, and funny. You don't get much more popular than this. But while it seems like I am perfect, there is one thing I'm afraid of ...
Akira Kusano
Male / Bumbling Fool: Perpetually drunk, he is the unadmired class clown that stands out unwillingly due to his poor perception of the world. Though his family is extremely wealthy, he lives a ho-hum life with little desire for better.
Voice: Medium-Low to High, Silly/Drunk/Sing-song
Voice Actor: One of the most fun characters you'll find to dub. Requires a just as serious voice actor as it required a devoted actor. I'm looking for someone who will have FUN with the role and go up and beyond expectations in acting. He will be the most fun and silly character in the entire show, with lots of lines and opportunities to overact. Watch the sample video to get an idea for the character, and if he seems like a desirable character to undertake, by all means audition!!
Akira (Drunk): Hey, God died, did y'know? Do you think it could really happen? But like ... what would kill him? I mean, What do you think God could die of? Hey you, don't ignore me. Oh, hey ... it's okay if you open up -- Shh ... It's all right. Don't be scared ... Just open up to your friend.
Nobuko "Nobuta" Kotani
Female / Charity Case: Rejected when she was young, she has never gotten over the cruelty of people and gladly turned her back on social life. Now she is haunted by poor communication, terrible posture, and bad fashion. Everyone around her needs only one look to judge her; and that's all they take.
Voice: Low to Medium, Hushed/Stuttered/Forced
Voice Actor: A difficult and perhaps tiring role due to the way the character speaks. Do not take the role in assuming that sooner or later she will start talking normal! Imagine that you rarely ever speak, and when you decide that you want to you have an extremely hard time. She stutters, chokes on words, and is whispery because of her reservation. Hard to explain, even harder to do! This voice actress will have my complete respect for pulling it off. You should at least try -- and it's okay to be embarassed, because she is, too!
Nobuta01: The tree ... it's ... it's no longer here. They pulled it out and they took it away. But I guess ... I couldn't hang myself on it anyway. I would just hurt the willow ... So I guess I'm glad ... that ... it's gone.
Nobuta02: I thought about changing myself once. My mother remarried. So I got a new dad ... But I never accepted him. But ... I knew that was wrong. So I tried, I tried very hard ... [Rejection] ... I was heart-broken. So much so, I wanted to just ... disappear.
Mariko Uehara
Female / Model Student: The willing girlfriend to the secretly unwilling Shuji. Since they are the top two people in school they're assumed to be together. She's smart and sweet, but is genuine at heart and will never turn into the viciously jealous bad girl like so many other dorama cliches.
Voice: Medium to High
Mariko (optimistic): You'll really love today's lunch. What time are we meeting tonight? ... You forgot? You promised that today -- Well then, we'll just have to go tomorrow!
Mr. Yokoyama
Male / Homeroom Teacher: Seen as just as annoying as the rest of the class to Shuji, he's really more of a pushover and scatter-brained. He's got his share of lines since he represents the 2-B class.
Yokoyama (to class): Right, well, uh ... Be nice, everyone. Make her feel welcome. (to Nobuta) Your assigned seat is ... looks like, two collumns from the window, two rows from the back. Take that one.
Bando
Female / Class Bully: The necessary bad girl who gets easily offended. Her character, however, realizes that she is herself a cliche but copes about not being able to change it. While mean, she is not evil, but pretends she is to maintain her reputation. She bullies Nobuta.
Voice: Medium to Low
Auditions for Bando are automatic auditions for her clique.
Bando01: Hey, you! Is there something wrong with my desk? Did I keep it too dirty for you, your highness?
Bando02: What's your problem? Huh? Are you going to keep ignoring me? God, you annoy me.
Shittaka
Male / Bright-eyed Wit: He usually has the most to say and often stands out in class. He becomes a more central character down the line as he grows feelings for Nobuta. He's a charismatic speaker, but is silly, even when he doesn't want to be (the pain of being too cute for your own good!).
Voice: Medium to High, Boyish
Shittaka01 (know-it-all): You didn't hear? I know all about it, it started not too long ago, everyone thought they were innocent ...
Shittaka02: Oh, you have no idea how pretty she is! When you meet her, you'll see just how cute she is! So until then, you can have no idea!
Hasegawa & Kondo
Males / Destiny Duo: Smooth-talking, wise-cracking duo that calls themselves "Destiny". They bounce off of each other with much exaggeration and puns intended. Their humor is usually Japanese-only, so some of their scenes have been cut, but they do have lengthy segements as they're the most popular entertainers in school. They sometimes say things in unison.
Destiny: Welcome to this morning's show! We're Hasegawa and Kondo, and together we're ... Destiny! Thank you so much for coming.
Female Students
Females / Clique Fodder: Background members of the girl cliques plus other students. This is a catch-all audition where you can exihibit multiple voice types to get multiple roles.
If you are female, audition! Typical School girl voice -- but NOT anime high! Just talk like you normally do or maybe a "valley girl" accent, though I don't wish them all to sound mentally handicapped. I am looking for a wide range, so go low if you can, too. Unless a billion people audition, you should get a student to cherish (there's more students than pictured).
Female01: She didn't even make it into the store? Because her kind wasn't welcome? That's sad.
Female02: Hey, hey ... Shuji and Mariko share a lunch everyday -- are they going out?
Female03: Hey, Shuji! Are you going to karaoke with us tonight? Aw ... it's no fun without you!
Female04: Don't talk to her ... she'll think we're her friends and follow us around.
Male Students
Males / Friends: Don't get me wrong, there are some boys who have good sized parts, there's just nothing unique with their voice type.
If you are male, audition!! Speaking how you normally would can definitely do the trick. You'll also be auditioning for other male parts so varying your voices per line will get your more roles (there's more students than pictured).
Male01: No way! Ah, Shuji, you're too much. What would we do without you?
Male02: There's a new student? A girl? Is she hot??
Male03: Better than Mariko!? It looks like Mariko is finally going down.
Male04: I wish Mariko's lunches were for sale ... they'd sellout immediately.
