Since I know there are a lot of artists and writers here, I think it would be fun to discuss ideas, give help to people who don't know where to start, and otherwise share ideas. Maybe we could even create our own circle. XD

    Basics:
What the tweak is a Visual Novel?
-It's one of those crazy computer "games" where there's a story and you click through. Uh...Wikipedia is your friend here.

Oh, so like those dating sims and hentai games?
-Uh...well, yeah a lot of them are like that. But not all of them have to be. It's just one very popular genre. >_<

Do I know any Visual Novels?
-Probably. The following are just a few recent series based on visual novels: AIR, Kanon, CLANNAD, School Days, Higurashi.

How do I shot web Make VN?
    What's a VN Engine?
-It's a program that makes it super easy to make your own visual novel. It basically provides the structure, and all you have to do is add the script, images, SFX, etc. Using an engine means you don't have to program your own VN from scratch (although I guess you could if you wanted to...)

Where do I get an engine?
-There are three major free VN engines available online: Blade Engine, Ren'py, and ONScripter.

    Which engine do I use?
-Your choice, really. Blade Engine is the most restrictive, and it doesn't have many cool options. It's the easiest to learn, though, and the coding is simple enough for people who have practically no programming knowledge. Ren'py is more in-depth and offers lots of really super cool features. It takes a bit to learn the programming language (it's based on Python, if you care), but it's the one I use. ONScripter was originally Japanese, so there isn't much English documentation or help. If you can't understand Japanese, I'd stay away. Unless you're a brilliant programmer who can totally understand all of that.

So, got an idea for a game? Looking to show a preview of one you're working on? Want feedback on some character designs? This is the place to post. Feel free to ask any questions, share ideas, etc. and let's see what we can create. ^-^

Current VAA Circle Project: Lost Toy

Your average nice guy finds a toy on the way to school and tries to decide which girl it belongs to. Cute romance ensues. Probably.

Whoever writes the final script will basically merge the two scenarios into something that can be written out in a VN format, so it should probably be someone familiar with VN timelines, etc. That writer might also want to add a "bad end" where he gets neither girl? Just a thought...

Each slot may be filled by more than one person. Just volunteer for the part you'd like, and you can coordinate with the others who are in that crew.

    Dia (Viridian/Merdian/THE DUDE)

    Aurora - (Shy)
    Scenario: yukie (Scenario 01)
    Design: Kai-chan, Bebichu, fruitfly, Chinomi's sister, SiriusFan17
    Character Images: fruitfly, Kai-chan

Well, cripes, now I have the intense urge to make a ren'ai game. Using members from the VAA in various archetypes as discussed earlier in the SYM thread. This could only end in heartbreak.

A VAA ren'ai. XD; Bet a lot of people are going to be like, "BUT WHAT ABOUT ME?! BAAAAW!" though.

Maybe I can do a harem game. With little boys... - because I think my previous idea for a visual novel might not be suitable and way too long. It seems more like shounen manga material. ._.

Which is PRECISELY why I wouldn't do it. But I may steal a couple ideas.

I've been creating/coding for about two years now! I'd love to help!

Maybe I should put a preview of a game that I have in progress here...it's got a cool battle system!

Your image has to have a transparent background. So either a .GIF or a .PNG and make the background transparent. What program are you using to make your graphics?

Honestly, I'm too cheap to download/buy photoshop so I generally draw images on oekaki, then save them on my computor...which probably isn't the best idea...>__>''
