I'm trying to decide which route to go when it comes with a new microphone. I've heard that both of these are wonderful, but I'm trying to decide which one would be better. Any suggestions?

Wow.... I was just asking two seperate people yesterday about these two particular microphones. I'm also planning to buy it within this week and debating between the two. D:
That's kind of a scary coincedence. I think I'll be getting the Snowball though, since I travel a lot and it's more portable even just around the house (it'd be more convenient since I record music).
Before I had a tough decision to make between the two also, so I might as well share my "experience" XDD.
I chose the Blue Snowball cuz it:
1. has a small tripod stand for desk so I can record while sitting.
2. from what I've heard, the Snowball is really convenient for recording somewhat professionally, especially since one of my fav artist on Soundclick uses it! And the Samson isn't as popular, online at least.
3. looks good! XDD Well, it looks more "technologically advanced" than the Samson (even though the Samson looks really pro). And "Blue Snowball" sounds cool. o.o;
Now that I have the Snowball, I'd have to say:
1. THE QUALITY'S AWESOME!!! You'll have to turn the recording volume down to the lowest cuz it's super sensitive.
2. The top part of the mic is reallllllly big (sort of like a softball), but you'll get used to it soon. I actually think it's cute now haha.
3. It takes up 60 mb *still annoyed*. XDD But it's really easy to install, plug and play. Samson's like that too but you need a STAND for it. Well, unless you want to stand singing. lolz
4. Great for voice acting and singing. You can adjust the effects on the back: omni, cardiod, and figure-8 (I think).
5. Wish I can also get Blue's Kiwi! LOLL But it's too expensive.
I hope this helps. =DDD
Oh btw, if you didn't know, Blue Snowball and Samson are around the same price. The Blue is a bitttt more expensive, like $99 without tax.
I'm using the Samson C01-U for almost a year now. Although it is USB it gets very good results. I don't know the other mic but here's a recording (in German, don't mind) to get you an impression how it sounds. Perhaps someone with the other one could also post something like that to get you a direct comparison.

And yes, you need a stand for the Samson-mic, but such a thing costs about 9,90€ - not really expensive. The installation of the drivers under WinXP was a bit tricky, but in the end it worked quite well. You get a software-lowcut and the possibility to control the input-volume. But it also works without any driver since it's USB![]()
I've done a lot of research on both already for a while now. Actually KIWI, the C01U, in my opinion, is the everyone-has-it mic. Lots of people on the VAA have it as well. I'm getting the Snowball mostly because of its portability, I really can't travel with a stand all the time.
The Blue Snowball 100%...Blue is a company that specializes in making mics and a majority of the studios I have worked at have purchased high end Blues for their actors so I am staying true to Blue. ^^

Go for the most affordable. That's my oppinion.
I've owned a Snowball for a few months now and I lovvvvves it. MUCH Better than the microphones I used to own.

Thanks everyone for your opinions.
Actually, listening to the sound clip for the C01U, it sounds a lot fuzzier than ones I've heard from the Snowball, but that could be partially due to the mixing as well. *shrugs*
