Hey there, aspiring vocalists, I’m Suki, here to tell you about the VAA’s newest and most mentally straining competition yet. We call it The Dominant.

Not your typical j-pop ridden karaoke fest, The Dominant is the long-awaited answer to the need for true vocal improvement, which not only sets out to uncover the best the VAA has to offer, but also to go where no other radio-play competition has gone before – the art of performance. This, of course, calls for a number of different areas of concentration, such as song choice, style, musical genre, interpretation, and even breath support and range.

And it’s all done live.

Think you can sing now? Just wait until you can’t take two.

Designed to bring online musicians to a new height, The Dominant offers a new and innovative program that focuses not only on making you a better singer, but making sure that you’re just as stellar on stage as you are in the booth.

TASK:
From this moment on, competitors have exactly one week to throw together an original song that tells us why you think you deserve dominance. Not only will you have to keep in mind the words of the judges as to craft your melodies, eager to prove that you do, in fact, have a chest voice, or that your pitch is riddiculously top-notch, you'll have to write up some smart lyrics that demonstrate why you should be here. Be careful about your songs, competitors - you may be handing us your elimination on a silver diamond-and-ruby encrusted platter! Songs should be between 45 seconds and a minute and twenty seconds, and should be done acapella, to be emailed to suki before the time is up.
So, competitors, get busy writing up those masterpeices! Until then, *craft your own witty 'i'm mochan! bye!' catchphase *

YAY THIS SOUNDS AWESOME SUKI!! I ESPECIALLY LOVE THE OPENING THEME AND THE SFX's you used >D They made this sound very interesting! =D

The main problems I think are the difference in microphone qualities and volumes. The mic quality issue was especially a problem for the judges bit. The first judge sounds really muffled everytime.. I think fixing the filters a bit might help? The rest were fine 8D Ohhhh and the volume-issue.. as others have pointed out, some bits of the show are a tad bit too loud. They peaked out too much, I think. They did make the show even more fun to listen to, but I think that turning down some of the bits would have been even better


Special credits to Mochan and Suki for doing an awesome job in the show/editing and mixing. This was really, really fun to listen to XDD!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU~~~ X"D Anyways.. SUKI I CAN'T WAIT TO LISTEN TO THE NEXT ROUND =DD WELL DONE TO THE CONTESTANTS TOO!

Lastly.. I have a little suggestion to make.. perhaps the contestants could sing with the music next time? This would add to the 'flavour' of this, instead of us listening to acapella singing =) That might just be me though X"D


Overall~~ awesome project! AWESOME IDEA TOO =D It's nice that the singers can get to improve and learn through it!


BTW SUKI NO JOKE BUT I REALLY DO THINK THAT YOU WERE THE BEST JUDGE OVERALL =) I LOVED THE CRITS YOU GAVE! THEY WERE SOOO SPOT-ON AND HELPFUL. AND THE LIL TIPS THAT YOU GAVE TOO OMIGOSHHHH <333 YOU ARE SUCH A GOOD CRITIQUER! SHOULD HELP CRITIQUE PEOPLE ON THE RECORDING STUDIO MORE OFTEN WHEN YOU HAVE TIME =D SINCE WE HAVE SUCH AN AWESOME ELITE PERSON ON THE VAA =)

EDIT 2:
The mixing volumes could've been better. There was no constant, equal volume - one person's line would be medium-ish and then another person comes in and it's really loud. It was really distracting.

And, individually - there were a lot of puffs and peaks from a couple of the singers, judges/host. It took away from the show overall. Especially that one "SHUT UP!" line SuKi gave - nice energy, but hurt the ears >.<...

Kuma - you give good, honest critiques that people can actually improve upon, but you're really mumbly. It's hard to understand what you say at points, and I think there was this one time (Hatomi's critique I believe) it sounded really robotic from over noise removing.

Amree - You have a really clear voice, but sometimes you're speaking too fast so we have no idea what you're saying at some points. Your spazzing is hillarious XD

Mochan, SuKi - Watch out for puffs/peaking, but both of you have nice energy, you guys speak slowly and clearly. Yey~!

I think the judges had good critiques were very helpful, I don't really have anything to add on to them.

Oh my god, Suki and Amree! You're so awesome! I love you! That surprise really did surprise me! You're just so full of win. Thank you. ^^

Anyway, this was mixed SO well. I'm so surprised (in a very good way) how this came out. Everything turned out so well.

Oh my goodness, I didn't know that clip I sent would be heard by everyone. ^_^;;; I would have seriously practiced something instead of doing a quick oneshot had I known...
