VA Pet Peeves

OH so many to list, so little time. I guess I'll just list a few for now. Maybe I'll list more later on:


-People that set a deadline then cast before that deadline. It's not far to those that would have auditioned but did not get around to it yet.

-People that self cast... but then open auditions for an understudy. Come on, seriously people... are you really going to ever use an understudy for yourself on your OWN project? No. You want to play the part so you're gonna play it. WHY do you need an understudy?

-People that when you audition tell you how awesome you are and how much they love your voice then don't cast you in the end. Way to get people's hopes up.

-People that openly talk about specific auditions in the audition topic. Saying things like, "WOW such and such, this audition is AMAZING! You are the best one I've gotten so far!" Way to make everyone else that has auditioned feel like crap AND at the same time make people that wanted to audition change there minds since you have obviously shown that you have pretty much cast that part in your mind already.

-People that post things asking for comments and when you give them a comment that THEY don't want to hear, they just completely ignore it. They don't fight it, they just ignore you completly. That really urks me. It's like they think that they ignore the truth, isn't going to make it less true. Guess what... it's not.

Oh, and people who ask for critiques in audition threads.

+ Recasting without notice (If you haven't heard from someone in months I understand, but don't tell me "take your time" with the lines on AIM one day and then put up an audition thread for recasting the next day without telling me. Oh, and don't say "I didn't know you were still voice acting since you didn't send me the lines yesterday, but you can have the part back I guess" No. I will not continue working with anyone who behaves in this way.)

I wouldn't work with such a person either... totally uncalled for.


- People who shamelessly pester a producer about their audition in the audition thread. Post that you auditioned to make sure the email didn't get lost, ask for a critique if you must, but then leave it at that, please. Anything more looks like sucking up or begging.

- Public audition critiques.

- Producers who fall off the face of the Earth after they've cast you. Makes you wonder why you even bothered.

- Fellow cast members who can't get their lines in on time and hold up the entire production.

Wow...

1. I only produce cuz it's fun, you know? So when I send out lines a week after casting, I expect my cast to do those lines. I mean, I won't mind if you tell me ahead of time that you're either too lazy to do it or you'll be absent from the internetz all week.THAT'S FINE. But, if you didn't even attempt to do the lines, or wait a week or two (sometimes it's a month, y'know?) after the deadline (without warning that you're just now starting it late) to actually start doing them, I will be pissed.

2. So, you've just finished casting your crew, right? Ready to start hearing those confirmations on your topic or through PM. The usual "Congrats, lol!" takes place from people who didn't get the role. And then there are the people who didn't get the role, and then act like a bitch in the thread because they didn't get a part in it. Plz, gtfo mah thredz, thx.

3. "DID YOU SEND THE LINES!? DID YOU SEND THE LINES!? --DID YOU SEEEEEND THEEEEEM!?!?!" NO, dammit! You wouldn't be asking if I did, right?! Go away! For fucks sakes...

4. When I get complaints about when I double cast. I don't do it all the time, only when I feel I lacked good auditions, y'know? But no, they go "U SHOOD HAV PIKD SUM1 ELSE!!11eleven11l1!!" Well...

The person I casted for it was better than you, better than the guy before you, and better than the other guy before the other guy before you. And you can't complain that I didn't give a good enough description of the character because the guy I casted wouldn't have gotten it down right if I didn't, kay, thx.

5. When people beg to be in your production.

6. When people still puff through their lines when I pretty much stated clearly I don't want any.

1) When people don't do lines for me because my mixing isn't as good as other people they owe lines for =<

2) When they cast me without asking.

3) When people don't take constructive critisizm well. I understand if they blow up over "U SUK!!11" comments. But I LOVE CC, love it love it love it.

4) When people sugar-coat in a critique of me. Please be honest. I can't improve if you don't tell me what I did wrong =<

5) Dumbshits who think they're the greatest.

There are more, but I don't feel like I have the right to go any furthur since I'm sure I've done many of the pet peeves listed here.

2) When they cast me without asking.

And they continue to send you the scripts over and over, when you NEVER agreed to be in it in the first place.


Another one that annoys me is when people ask you to audition for them, and so you do and then the don't even bother to give you anything at all, not even a random extra.

I have to agree with so many of these. Good thread, tells me what to do if I don't want to piss anyone off. >.< Anyways I can only think of a couple other but that's all since so many have already been mentioned.

~ People who say "you're awesome, you'll definitely get a part!!" and to my surprise I don't. (Although after the first time this happened I've leearned to expect it now.)

~ People who send scripts with out actually having any info on it either in the e-mail or in the script itself. I mean my memory can work for the past two days but other than that I won't remember who I was or where this is from.

~ People who speak in constant IM, even through the script. I had a person ask me for my lines "TMR" and I was litterally stumped for 5 minutes because I didn't know what TMR meant. I mean IM is practically it's own language. ~.~

~ People who cast randomly out of the top auditionees, or cast someone because they just like that person more. I mean, don't pick a name out of a hat, or just choose someone because they are your friend even though the other auditioners had a better performance.

I can't think of anymore. But on a side note though, anyone who posts going "........" in between words, it's called a comma guys. Looks like this ",".

It just means the producer is interested in hearing you try on the role; or, perhaps, they had the idea of casting you for the part, but someone they liked better came along in addition to you.

It's just something that is never certain when it comes to auditions... it probably means you do have an advantage, but again, not a guarantee. It isn't exactly the producer's fault, unless they do say something like, "HEY AUDITION FOR THIS SO I CAN GIVE YOU THE PART *wink nudge* ;D"
