I have a new peeve. It's irksome when I send lines in and the producer doesn't acknowledge receiving them. I like getting confirmation that they made it to their destination.

I am probably being a right-bitch about this--but if I see one more thread for dubbing over Japanese songs in Japanese I think I will break something. That's not voice acting. That's karaoke.

It's one thing if you're doing a different-language version of it--but dubbing it again into Japanese is not fandubbing. I wish people would stop wasting their time on those silly things and actually do something that--agh. I will stop now, I will start getting mean, and I haven't been here long enough to earn that right yet...

Why are they even allowed? It isn't voice-acting, so how does it apply here?

Yo, man, i've been meaning to ask. Do you still only produce now or do you still do some VA work? I was thinking of a character I had in mind for you, buuuut... I dont want to bug you if you're ONLY producing now. So, just curious~ (if that was stupid to ask, than ignore me...)

In a way, it isstill voice acting, but it's acting in the same language as the original. You're still playing the role of the character, and even if not, it's still performance using your voice, so it still fits with this forum (there are even some fandubs in languages other than English and Japanese, which are always cool as well). However, it isn't really fandubbing, since fandubbing generally is putting it in a different language. It'd be like a fansub group subbing a Japanese anime in Japanese -- that isn't really subtitling; that's more like captioning. The point of fandubs is to put it in another language. Doing the opening and ending theme in the same language is one thing since they're not the main focus of the project, but having the whole thing in Japanese or -- what you're referring to -- making these song project dubs in Japanese is a different thing altogether. Basically, in my opinion, people who do song projects should call a spade a spade and a song project a song project rather than a fandub. I don't think that it's necessarily wrong or a waste of time to do them if they're so inclined, but they should be treated as what they are.

Another big problem problem is the general lack of originality (and while this applies to the Recording Studio to some extent with the tendency to have "fad songs" done to death, this goes double for song dubs). I have noticed tons and tons of auditions for songs, and it seems like the vast majority of the anime-related ones are from the same anime, and probably at least half are the same exact song -- and if not that anime, then it's the "flavour of the month" song. There should at least be some diversity instead of everyone doing the same songs from the same anime over and over and over again ... if you're going to do it, then why not try something that hasn't been done ad nauseum instead of just doing what everyone else is doing? There are some projects out there that don't have to do with that specific anime (I'm sure ALL of you know which one I'm talking about), but it seems like they're the exception rather than the rule. In a way, it almost seems like the ten bazillion versions of the same exact song are competing with each other to see which one's better -- even if that's not how it is, it does tend to come across that way. However, there are lots of anime series I've seen that involve lots of singing that I have never seen a singing project from before and others where it's rare, but there's one anime out there in particular that's had so many song dub projects that it practically warrants its own Top 10. It's pretty much always the same four or five songs, over and over again, with few exceptions, when it comes to anime singing dubs. Of course, there isn't really a fair way to get people to try to be more original other than to encourage people to try to break out of whatever the flavour of the month is, but I think the VAs/singers themselves should try to broaden their horizons rather than just sticking to what everyone and their grandmother is doing.

I have to agree that it *is* a project where you use your voice. Is it what the creators of the site had in mind...probably not. I think that folks should still do them, since they are a pleasant diversion from time to time...but maybe move them to a Just-for-kicks type thread.

Let's give it another go, shall we?

Perhaps, but I still don't think all of those threads should be clogging up the Audition/Casting sections and bumping down real audition threads...

I understand, but they're just popular. Maybe if the Production Manager was used again, it'll clutter less, since you can sort on project type.

I dont audition much anymore, so I wouldn't know. But that doesn't justify having it around that it bothers you (and probably other people too). Zank described it pretty well, though.

Give it some time. It's a fad that will pass ;p
