Practice, practice, practice. It's going to take a long while before you can do just about anything you want. If you have a character voice, keep going at it. Take a few classes at legitimate workshops, and play around with your voice until you get it right.

There is no easy way of getting range, just practice. The VAA is the perfect place to do this, and I would recommend you auding for a few parts to see where your current range is now. Then when you figure that out, continue trying out for broader and broader spectrums until you feel comfortable.

Need a solid voice actor to fill that role you just can't seem to cast? I'm your Final Fantasy!

There is nothing wrong with starting out with just one or two character voices or even just using your own natural voice.
There are lots of pro actors who only use their normal voice but can change the personality and tone of it depending on the character they play. Still most of the time you could easily still recognize their voice.
So there is nothing to be worried about if you just have one voice type right now. Like mentioned above with time and practice you could expand your vocal range.

The best practice I could suggest in creating range is to start out in developing personalities/emotions with your voice.
If you can sound hyper/energetic focus on those kinds of recording lines. If your voice is more softspoken maybe try some poetic lines or recording a character passage from a book.

Just have fun with it and play with different vocal emotions: happy, angry, devious, flirty, hyper to name a few.

Hearing your recordings played back can help you decide if you want to change how you delivered a line. Sometimes it will require a lot of takes but usually the last few takes you record will be the best ones, since you'll be more comfortable with the line and character you're recording for ^_^

    Good Luck!

UUUH I'm far from being an expert on range, but here goes...
If you want to look at it through a more scientific eye, air control has a lot to do with your range. How much air do you require to hit lower notes, to get high up in your range. Breath support, and control are important. If you play any musical woodwind instraument you'll know this. Work with what you've got. Then see where on the spectrum you lean to. High? or low? Either improve on what you're pretty good at, or work on what you think you need most work on! Good luck! =D

I improved my range by listening to a lot of different pro voice actors playing certain characters and imitating those >>; So then when you go to voice an original character it gives you some base voice types to work off of.

Some people say it's a terrible method, but it worked for me *shrug*
