    you click on the drop down arrow next to the name of the track and if its stereo you click split stereo track, then to make it mono you click on the arrow the drop down menu next to the name of the track again and click mono. ^^ At leat that how it works for me on audacity

    You're removing the stereo component altogether. It's a mono file now, that's the sacrifice you make to remove the vocals. You can still convert the resulting mono file into stereo easily, but in that case you'll just be getting identical audio from both channels.

    Convert two files.....? This tutorial is about converting one single stereo file into one single mono file. It's about mixing a two-channel sound file into a one-channel sound file to get rid of the vocal track. Two-channel = stereo, one-channel = mono. Just one file.

    Music I make may fool this because all vocals and instruments are centered. Maybe it is possible, but not likely.

    This only really works for me if the background music is loud anyway, covering up a bit of what's left of the vocals. ^^;

    I'm using WaveStudio for this....it works great at removing the vocals for most songs, however, as soon as I convert it to mono...the vocals come back!
    If I leave it in stereo and save it that way, the vocals are gone...but only through this set of headphones. Through speakers, it's there.
    I am not technologically aware enough to understand this...any idea why it does this or hwo to fix it?
