I don't believe there is a topic that covers the tales series, so why not start one? But do correct me if I am wrong~
I have been into the Tales of series since Tales of Destiny. The battle system has always had me hooked. Tales of Eternia (ToD2 in America) really got me hooked because of the voice acting and even more complicated and fun battle system (well, its more complex than its predicesors, Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Destiny). But what made the Tales of series one of my top RPG series, is Tales of Symphonia. It was in every way beautiful and had me hooked for the first time in years! Of course, this was a few years back. But for many a year before i played it, I just couldnt quite finish games, or they would take me a long time to finish. Not because of difficulty, but lack of motivation. This game kept me playing for 80 hours straight, and then another 30 or so hours my second time through.
I've only played, ToP, ToD, ToE, ToS, ToL and recently TotA. Tales of Phantasia through a translated SNES rom, because the gameboy one was just bad... anyways, I had noticed, at least in my opinion, that each Tales game was better than the last (Not including ToD2, the real one, Tales of the World 1-3, or Tales of Rebirth. Because they haven't come to America and I cant judge a game that is completely in a language i dont understand ;-; ) and after playing ToS, which i found a master piece, I was highly anticipating Tales of Legendia, the latest in the series (at that time). Sadly, and I may be bashed by some Tales fans for this, but I hated the game. The soundtrack was the only good part. The characters, battle system (they killed my favorite part of the series ><), graphics, were all just horrible. I had to FORCE myself to finish it.
But, I didn't lose faith and waited for Tales of the Abyss. Which, currently, is the game I was expecting to come after Tales of Symphonia. Meaning, a game I felt was even better than ToS. Its battle system has never been funner, the characters, the music (back to the classic Tales soundtrack!), the graphics (though they cant compare with many a game, they are perfect for this series) are all so great! Though, i havent beaten the game yet, so I can't quite give my opinion on the story just yet. But from what i've played, I can tell its going to be great.
As many know, each Tales game has an opening song (and I am talking about the Japanese openings. Since all the american releases replaced them with orcrastra music...). I really enjoyed the one for Tales of Symphonia, but the one for Tales of the Abyss is by far my favorite. Even in the American release, it remains the best. I can't understand the lyrics anyways (though vocals really do add a sweet sound to songs), so I was just happy they kept the melody. More so, it was played in pure guitar! And you know, that just rocks. So, this Tales game also has my favorite opening~
Now, I've spoke enough about the Tales series. Its your turn! Who else enjoys this series (i know Kitsune loves it ^^)? Your thoughts? Your favorite in the series? Oh, and they are currently remaking ToD for the PS2, ToE for the PSP (though I know its already out in Europe, i dont know if its coming to America...) ToP for the PSP as well (Yes, I know they have remade it for the PS and Gameboy Advance. But they are doing it again for the PSP, which lets prey, is better than the Gameboy Advance one, the only one America has officially got) and also ToD2, the real one, for i forget what system... but i believe the PSP as well). So Lets all prey together that they release all four in America so that we can re-experience ToP, ToD, and ToE. But most importantly, get to finally play the real ToD2!!^^ (as unlikely as that might be... but with the Tales of fame growing in the US, anything is possible!).
